  1. Snowing then raining ghen snowing again in Smethwick west mids. Its a real fine line as this system moves across.
  2. Dont know, but its snowing in Smethwick West Midlands now.
  3. it is a bit silly in there isn't it Glenn, the mods have a monumental task when an event like this comes about.
  4. The river level on the Soar hasn't dropped today as expected by the EA, the amounts on the fields running off has kept the level in the red. The next batch should fill the fields back up!!
  5. are you trying to tell us this is just a little bit of a BIG system coast??
  6. some good wind across the Midlands now, the pylon wires are singing well ahead of the oncoming rain band. I guess I will be stuck on this mooring for another week yet.
  7. There is some concern over the Thames levels, they are at the highest level since 2009 and still rising. This coupled with todays low pressure tracking across the South Midlands has resulted in the Thames Barrier being closed before the tide rises. The low has pulled the water level up through the channel, and the back edge will force the extra water up the Thames Estuary.
  8. I managed to get out yesterday, The Soar has an incredible amount of water in it, and I couldn't get to the Trent. Loughborough secondary emergency flood gates were closed by the EA as the first line of defence was breached. kegworth flood lock, usually the towpath is 4 feet above the water Ratcliffe Lock from EastMidlands Parkway station side SilebyMill Lane Barrow On Soar, Procters Holiday camp The Air Sea Rescue chopper was called in to Sawley Marina to evacuate an old lady who had fallen ill. There is no road access possible.even for 4X4
  9. http://www.flickr.com/photos/environment-agency/sets/72157628747631277/with/6647770467/ 3 more severe warnings gone up for the above location. The West Down above the town must be like a full sponge and can't take any more edited to add, that is the EA photostream of the new flood defences finished 12 months ago"!!
  10. Afew piccies I took on a tour today The new defences in Upton on Severn are doing a good job, however, the Avon Valley is suffering.....again and then North Leicester, towpath gone and cars fast being swamped in Syston
  11. The flood free marina at Pillings Lock near Loughborough has just emailed all residents to let them know it might flood tonight. The EA has taken the drastic measure of opening the sluice gates fully at 4pm to try to protect Loughborough, however, the level has only visibly dropped 3" with lots more water further up the watercourse. This also means that villages further down, Zouch, Hathern, Kegworth will suffer again.
  12. pyrotech has fat fingers or is using a keyboard set to nepalese. A lot of rain since 4pm here, I had a mad dash in the dark from Sileby down the river soar to barrow where the towpath is less likely to disappear. The river was flowing well and I was probably touching 8-9mph in some stretches. The EA meters are showing some alarming jumps already and we are less than half way through this first system. This will be worse than the November floods.
  13. I am in the East Midlands and need to move my boat off the river on Thursday. Is the bulk of the rain coming on Thursday and only a weather front tommorow?? There hasn't been much discussion about this system due to cold rampers getting the hump.
  14. the Met are now looking at a spell of more persistent and widespread unwanted rain in the middle of next week, Where does this appear in the model guidance? I can only see the progression to the low this Friday.
  15. i think an interesting debate here, and highlighted by this weekends model mash. The Metoffice issued a level 3 warning on Friday lunchtime that showed snow falling everywhere and intense cold with it . Joe Bloggs public would have been reading this until 08.26 this morning when the new warning was issued. The breakdown of the ramped and much expected model progression was showing from late Friday that there would be a change, however, the Met did not reflect this in it's general public forecasting.
  16. I am gobsmacked and worried that the MetOffice is dumbing down.. How much do we pay the Chief Forecaster?? Here's what he has to say today........... Chief Forecaster’s View A frost is expected in many places toinght away from eastern coastal districts. THE SPELLING MISTAKE IS THE MET'S!!!!!
  17. hey, you may remember my piccy from a few days ago.....well it made the weekend front page, wahey... I had two others inside as well........thumbs up to the weather watchers!!
  18. I have now spent 5 days in a lock on the River Soar, the level here has finally started to drop - 3 " in the last 6 hours. The Loughborough flood defences were breached early this morning and further North the Trent continues to rise along its length, nowovertopping Shardlow marina and Sawley marina.
  19. Ah, 3 pubs and shops 1/2 a mile up a flooded lane, bought myself new wellies the other day!! There is a big HooHaa round here with the EA alerts and warnings, the Lower Soar was in flood hours before even an alert was put on. The roads were also not closed anywhere near soon enough, and then the signs were blown down by thursday nights winds resulting in many vehicles being trapped.
  20. Day 3 of being stranded in a River Lock, I could be here for another week at this rate. Yeserday afternoon, now it's grey and waiting for the next onslaught. I also note that whilst we are watching this coming in, every riverCam north of, and including York, is showing snow on the ground, could there be wintry comditions on the front to add to the problems??
  21. well I am stuck in a lock on the River Soar, safest place to be, and may be here for a few days yet!! so I grabbed me camera Great sign... new waterbus service Mountsorrel Lane Mountsorrel Lock Mill Lane Sileby oh, and a lot of water
  22. I am currently sat having checked my ropes, the river is 1" over the towpath and the surrounding mile of fields has disappeared. The current flood conditions are not expected to peak until midday today (thurs) and by then the storm front should be well with us. Expect to see some spectacular footage of flooding in the Soar valley (N Leics)
  23. my boat has risen over a foot since 6am, The river is only 4" off overtopping the towpath, then I will be stuck on board until it recedes. ....and I have an assessment day planned tommorow!!!
  24. ramping thread - why ramp when you can see the real thing http://webcam.saimanet.kg/ Living on a boat means I have to prepare well for cold weather, making sure I am moored somewhere handy when the canal finally freezes over. Three years ago I was iced in 1/4 mile from the station for 13 weeks (I usually have to move every 2 weeks) and two years ago I was iced in at Paddington basin Central London for a month (11 minutes from work). I therefore live on the weather forum at this time of year planning my freezing in spot.
  25. Lets hope it covers it from the West Atlantic as a tropical depression through all it's stages and across all the disaster areas in it's path........not just a New York documentary with a 1 minute resume of the rest of it's path. Here's hoping.....
