  1. The Dee Estuary is a natural funnel with the wind and tide as they are. I wonder if the will shut Connah's Quay power station down.
  2. The high tides run from around lunchtime in Kent to 3pm Wash and late afternoon in Northumberland. Crunch time will be the worst winds and pressure late lunchtime. http://www.sunderland.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3382 sunderland beach webcam

  6. I suppose this is something Coast would normally do but I can't see anything. It was mentioned last night that The Italian Med was full of lightning and storm activity... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24996292 Thanks to the BBC Sardinia hit by deadly cyclone and flooding Hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes At least 16 people have been killed in flooding prompted by a cyclone and heavy rain that swept through the Italian island of Sardinia. A number of people are reported missing after rivers burst their banks, sweeping cars away and causing bridges to collapse. The worst-hit area appears to be in and around the north-eastern city of Olbia. Prime Minister Enrico Letta has spoken of a "national tragedy" and a state of emergency is expected to be declared. "We're at maximum alert," Giorgio Cicalo, an official from Sardinia's civil protection authority, told Italy's Rai TV. "We haven't seen a situation as extreme as this, perhaps for decades. Especially because it's been across the whole island." Hundreds of people across the Mediterranean island have been moved from their homes because of the flooding caused by Cyclone Cleopatra. Sardinian Governor Ugo Cappellacci told Italian TV that the situation on the island was "dramatic". Olbia Mayor Gianni Giovanelli was quoted by Sky TG24 as saying that the city had been hit by an "apocalyptic"' storm. Cyclones are extremely rare in the Mediterranean. Brazilian family Reports from the island say flood waters in some areas were up to 3m (10ft) high. A Brazilian family of four drowned when their basement flat in the town of Arzachena, in the northern part of the island, filled with water. Two children were among the dead. Three people died when a road bridge collapsed on to their car near Olbia, according to local media. In a separate incident, a mother and her daughter were found dead in their car after it was swept away by floods. Among the victims was a police officer who died after a bridge collapsed as he tried to escort an ambulance. Tankers are battered by gale winds and big waves off Cagliari The streets of Olbia in northern Sardinia were under water Some city residents used social media to offer shelter to those forced out of their homes. Meanwhile Governor Cappellacci told La Stampa newspaper that thousands of people had been affected. "Unfortunately the situation is tragic," he said. The storms also caused extensive damage to farms on the island and disrupted a number of flights to and from mainland Italy.
  7. It will be interesting to see what effect Melissa has on our weather patterns at the tail end of the week also, this could shift the block somewhat if the track is to the East of the model guidance.
  8. it seems strange to be tornado chasing and seeing snowstorms alongside gorgeous sunshine a few miles apart.
  9. Ski season started last Saturday at Cairngorm........
  10. some horendous footage on a local tv station http://phnoy.com/abs-cbn-live-stream
  11. jumped to 46 dead, expect an astronomical increase as daylight dawns ...
  12. ....because the city lost it's weather station, power or transmission capability at 9am and hasn't managed to send any info since...
  13. That's ok until it takes the roof off your house, crushes your dad's car or (god forbid) removes your ability to post on here because a falling tree cuts off your leccy. Get real, weather extremes are there to be witnessed safely and with care, wishing for an exceptional wind storm to hit you in a static location is just stupid or immature.
  14. webcam in klitmoller (west side of northern denmark) - going dark so resolution not good http://live.waves4you.de/ucam/index.html
  15. I think the major flooding problem will come from the leaves being stripped from the trees and blocking drains on roads everywhere. The surface water will stay above ground and then just pool at the lowest point, unable to drain away.
  16. Yes, the sun set 2 hours ago.... Thunder just south of Watford Gap services, two vague flashes so far...
  17. Very impressive horseshoe on the weather radar, incredible how it has developed over the last few hours. East midlands and northants getting a pasting. it was torrential in daventry but dry when I got to northampton to work.
  18. your stream is running better than the others at the mo it has been a sigh of relief recently after the phase of addictive and spectacular stormchasing , although the horrors of Moore and El Reno live will stay long in the memories. Good luck tonight and stay safe.
  19. you aren't far away from verne carlson, and his stream isn't dropping, go and nick his wifi hotspot!! phenomenal structure to that cell
  20. stormscapeliveTV are watching rotation under wall cloud, looks like a dropper!!
  21. Very sad and maybe a reflection on how storm chasing is going. There are lots of people doing good things out there, studying to try to improve safety and warnings of which Tim and crew were one. More and more people trying to get up close and personal with a tornado (me included). Looking at the pic below, there could have been a lot more. The red dots are stormchasers. Pic from Weatherspace.
  22. I am suffering from lack of sleep recently due to early starts (6am at work) and late finishes (falling asleep at laptop at 1am ish!!). This last few weeks has been the best virtual storm chasing I have known in 5 years, not just one off evenings, but something happening almost nightly for quite a while. Nights when I am off doing something else..... (sorry)....I seem to miss some big event as well. Only another month and the hurricane season starts proper, a;though we have already had some action there as well. Stay safe all of you out there, we do appreciate the footage and one of these years I hope to get out there too.
