2c here. Dry but beefy showers heading east.Snowing on the Rannoch Moor 1000ft so fingers crossed I get some wet snow!

Yep have a feeling that we could see our first wet snow as early as tonight in Central Scotland. More likely above 200ft.Saturday and Sunday is still a wee while away yet but I really am going to follow this situation very carefully as I do feel that that Central Scotland and the West could see some wet snow at lower levels. Really all I want first is -6C or lower uppers, some snow and a new Blog for the winter and I'll be happy. Once the snow is here then that's when I'll be keeping an eye on any accumilations and radar/lamp post watching.
I doubt that there will be any snow tonight but if the temperatures are lower than expected, then perhaps later on could be interesting with lower temperatures and some showers heading into western parts.

Agreed there could be a midweek spell of wet snow even at low levels. However I have more faith on a snowy Sunday morning and Monday looking at the charts. At last snow lovers there is hope!NAE showing some snowy charts for the N and W in the coming days, e.g. -
When people keep saying it's only October then it's only November! Now it will be it's only December winter will come. Their eternal optimism and denial of the facts is astounding. As far as I am concerned we should expect at least 1 frost day in October,7 in November and one or two snow showers in November. We have had the second mildest November on record. Early December does not look good. So will they be saying it's only January give it time?
Just got to face facts it's been pants so far!

8th December looks interesting!
See model precititation type!

Might get something on Sunday although it now looks to dry!A period of heavy, cold rain. If it was a little cooler and heavier then we could have had some snow.
Well, I feel like starting my first snow watch of the winter!

Yeh I think we have to look to late December and a change in the weather pattern. Need those brutal northerlies to swing down for a few days. However for the next two weeks it's a case of just taking what we get. If we get a couple of frosts I will accept that.As far as I'm concerned December has 31 days of weather and I'm sure that during some of the days the weather will be colder and snowy. But you (and myself) have got an advantage because if for the start of the month we only get polar maritime winds, our northerly location in the UK would see us more likely to get something wintry. Personally, I really do feel that beyond the 15th of December that there would be an increased chance for cold and snow and perhaps everyone in the UK will get their first snow of December during the week of Christmas!!!
Even in the most mild of Decembers, we do tend to at least get one or two snowfalls in the middle and towards the New Year. I believe that our change to something more favourable for something wintry during the last 15 days of December could lead to a decent January for cold and snow.
Also, I think it's worth note that if December and the first half of January prove to be snowless with little-no frost, and the second half is as cold and snowy as the best moments of recent winters, then we would atleast have a winter to remember.

Hailstones Edinburgh 4c. Nothing on Pentlands!

The way things are going I don't expect any low level snow ,proper snow I mean that lies for a few days anywhere in the next 3 weeks at least. We are on a rollercoaster at present Squally showers, mild, squally showers, mild. The only possibility is that the mountains may build up some snow only above 3000ft. i can't even see us getting a proper penetrating frost out of the current set up.This is very much in line with GP's latest thoughts that we will have a 'colder blip' for things then to become milder again as we move through December. I don't expect to see any lasting snow at my location for at least the next 6-8 weeks. Hopefully things will then improve.

Yeh my local weather station says 2 frosts in Nov. However I only remember one! Crazy. We usually get at least 2 days of snow in November and that's not going to happen!Nice to see some folk are getting their snow dose, finally. It's cold, showery and wet here......but nothing white.
25th November and still not had a frost. Bonkers!
Oh well, the weather station says the windchill is at least subzero even if the temperatures aren't.

5c icy rain in Edinburgh at work no snow yet!

To be honest he wasn't the only one who believed this winter would be bad like the last two years. It was all based on a pattern that didn't exist other than the last two years. I predict a non descript winter mainly mild!

Its the complete lack of frosts this Autumn that i'm finding most strange. Its unbelievable to think we could make it well into December before i see a single ground frost.

I think winter gales is about the best we can hope for in the short term. No sign of any cold at all. This recent 2-3 months has been the worst Autumn early winter in a long time. No snow not even a drop for the whole of November in Scotland other than a few showers on the high tops. I think people become obsessed with snow because winter is about frost and snow. We can get gales or storms any time of the year.
-
We had snow in January and March so can't say we have had none. However I am not too hopefull of Snow for December in lowland Scotland. That would be terrible as November has seen 2 frosts and no snow!

You forgot the 60mph horizontal sleet!Ok. First attempt:

Skiing in Scotland
Scotland is quite unique on the European ski scene in that you can carve your turns on heather, grass and rocks in addition to traditional snow. It also offers the most extreme* skiing available; at least you have to be very brave to give it a go and very tough to survive it.
When lunchtime comes, resorts offer the very finest of Scottish fare, including such delicacies as Scottish pies, ‘breakfasts complète’ and haggis; if you are lucky enough, you might catch a glimpse of one of these secretive creatures in the wild when extracting yourself from a remote snow fence.
Ski Scotland – nae limits!
