  2. Umm NAEFS has us back with the euro high by the end of the first week of december.

    Round 2 anyone?

I shall be keeping a very close eye on this in the coming days to see if this continue's to be modeled on NAEFS.

I can only assume that this time around it maybe a slightly cooler high?

in the meantime we should enjoy the upcoming autumnal weather.

    :good:

Totally agree, if it is a question about models, what to look out for etc or how a certain factor will affect the models then it should be asked in here. But that's not rocket science to realise that surely.

-3c in Scotland and 12c in northern Scandanavia in December..must be April Fools already. Mind you it has been spring like!

  3. I'm rather underwhelmed!

Not much change this morning, trough near or over the UK, Euro high still refusing to realize that nobody likes it!

The GFS has the trough over the UK, the ECM looks similar to yesterday evening.

The ECM ensemble mean does show the trough a little further east and high pressure displaced a little further west but the operationals seem reluctant to go with that.

The ski resorts near me have now cancelled their opening this weekend, if the ECM verifies then there will be no skiing here or anywhere in the Alps apart from glaciers until at least the second week of December!

It's getting very close to an economic catastrophe for ski resorts especially when you consider the calamitous end to last season, if the snow doesn't arrive soon there won't be time to put a good base down before Xmas.

I really do hope it will move towards its ensemble mean and give some relief to Alpine regions, the pattern might be annoying for us but our jobs and livelihoods don't depend on the cold and snow.

Yes agreed and it's the same for Scotland. Not a drop has fallen in the mountains. However the next week looks like building something of a base hopefully!
  4. Yes agreed I can't see anything coming in the next few weeks. Possibly some snow on mountains which will thaw and freeze. However it will not be enough to start a base of snow. I predict no skiing this side of the year. As said before I cannot remember a November in Scotland without some significant snow on the hills,a day or two of snowfall at low level. This is worse than the mildest novembers we had in the late eighties and they were bad.

  5. I don't understand November13- the central england temperature is and was above those amounts for the last 2 novembers...? 8c, patchy cloud and quite sunny, breeze from the SW. Low of 6c.

I meant CST Central Scotland Temp...I must be losing it! Yeh basically the central Scotland Temps are double those of last November so this is hurting us this year!

  6. Yes I get the feeling we seem to be having a permanent Autumn type weather rather than seasons. I have thought this for a while. We had a warmer day in November in Scotland at 18c than we did for some days in July. What does this mean? Well we have historically always had dips and troughs and crazy mild temps in the winter. What I don't think is the same is that we seem to have just constant mildness. The pattern is above average, mild, average, cool. But there does not seem to be any cold periods. This is the worst autumn I can remember. The 4000ft mountains in Scotland are bare! There has been one frost and it's the 18th of November! I get the feeling winter is cancelled this year!

  7. Go to the Manchester Gallery. It is free to get in and always worth a visit. Maybe get on the Manchester wheel for a panoramic view of the city.

Clubbing is good on a Sat night :-)

I'd guide you around the city but I am flying to the Canaries tomorrow.

Just don't expect the weather to provide anything worthwhile...

    Karyo

Thanks yeh thought the weather was going to be wet.

Probably do the gallery and we are going for cocktails at Mojo. Indie/rock cocktail bar should be a laugh!

  8. I've known them to be completely bare of snow in January.

This is not a dig at you November, but there really are some idiotic post made on here regarding how such a model is showing this so winter will be mild or cold. The ECM seasonal charts were hopeless last winter, CFS charts might as well be binned as they show a different outcome every few weeks, and the Met Office ones due out on Monday will be no better than the other two ,due to their awful track record at producing LRF. Now where's my seaweed and pine cones.

I have known them to be bare at various times throughout the winter. However that is interspersed with snow that melts not just no snow for November at all. The way it is looking this will be the case.
  9. Matt Hugo has posted this on TWO,

Every seems to going into place for a mild winter.

    :good: :good:

I suppose if we are honest with ourselves. We have had a very mild and sometimes hot Sept/Oct and now November! The recent history tells it's own story. As we move into winter now the pattern seems to be established. I am just worried about the Ski centres this year. I have never known no snow on the mountain tops for the whole of November!
  10. Aye Nov 13,

Today's Temps for both places are just about part of the figures that will make up the averages.

Yeh but so far for November the average high Polmont has been :

    Avg daily max temp :13.3°C

This is well above. Ok we have 20 days left but the rest of the week is mild and into the weekend so can't see it evening out that much. This Autumn now stretching into winter has been very warm!

  11. I'ts not like last year at all see article:

According to meteorologists, the month of November has so far seen the least snow in over a hundred years in Sweden, in stark contrast to last year's late autumn blizzards.
