For anyone seeking a longer lasting unsettled spell that includes the far south, there’s a chance that 4th week of May could deliver as AAM drops back down after the higher spell of the near future.

Its when AAM drops substantially that high pressure is most inclined to locate west of the UK. Having said that, this tends to be least pronounced in May-June, when it can just as well prove to be cool but manly dry, 2010-style.

However, the +NAO tendency established in the past fortnight makes that less likely, instead favouring a changeable westerly interlude which tends to be wettest in the north, not really what we could do with. At present, there’s little sign of a big push to flip or at least neutralise the NAO and make the 2010 or 2012 outcomes more likely. A +NAO can self-reinforce when the North Atlantic SSTs are coolest in the northwest, as we have presently. The pattern weakened a bit during April’s -NAO but should restrengthen in the next week or so as cool cyclonic conditions dominate the north-western N Atlantic.

How about for anyone, ME for example, that would like that week to be dry at least, and preferably sunny, because we're off to centerparcs in Thetford for a whole week. Sold the family silver to go.

Wouldn't be so bad if the weather before wasn't so nice. And it's looking nice in June too.

My arthritic joints really don't like damp weather, so if someone could post some nice and dry charts for the 20th-27thMay It would make me very happy even if it's only for a while.

Wouldn't mind but we could have gone on the 13th but daughter-in -law is superstitious so we we booked the following week.

Really very unsettled and cool 6z operational but eventually things start to improve from 17th May

You couldn't find a chart that brings it forward to the 13th could you? Arrive at Centreparcs Longleat on the 13th and leave on the 17th.

The last 3  years we've had non stop drizzle, or grey skies and nippy and last year came back from Elveden on the glorious Friday 4th May (after a naff few days there) that had office workers leaving early for the bank holiday and took me 4 hours to get home rather than less than 2. Most miffed.

  3. About a mile or so away but nearest gauge to me at Catford ( http://weather.lgfl.org.uk/map.aspx?view=london ) says 34mm and it feels like it.  That's a lot of rain, my poor plants, but at least the pond has been topped up.

TWO have released early autumn/winter thoughts;  http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twoother/latest.aspx?id=UK+autumn+and+winter+2014%2f15+weather

And these guys who ever they are......

  4.  I might try and grow some water melons again next year!

    Show off! :p

Suggest you read: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/grow-your-own/fruit/melonsNo rain here as yet, temp down to 13c however feels more like 8c in cold breeze.

I know how to grow them, I just wanted to see if I could without a greenhouse and a shadyish south facing garden. I have a £1 bet with hubby that I could. I'll do it next year, I've found a better spot and I'll keep the cover on more often. I do like a challenge.

I use this site to get outside temps, does anyone know if it's reliable?  http://weather.lgfl.org.uk/map.aspx?view=london

  5. I avoided the heavy rain here, the shower suddenly took a sharp turn and all cleared away to the SE! How are the watermelon plants?

Looking daggers at me for growing them outside in the cold. Plenty of flowers but no fruit yet and I think it's too late this year now, so hubby may have won the bet. But there's always next year ;)

Are there any autumn forecasts out yet? I've not been able to find any.

  6. Hi Tadpole! Long time to hear from you! Hope you are well!

    Hi Lassie

Yes I'm fine and pleased 'real life' has calmed down now and I can get back to other important things......like the weather and here!

Thank you very much JP for the update. We're all grateful as every I'm sure.

I'll advise my son to make Wednesday a 'not to far from tent' type day and after that they'll just have to make the best of it. It's looking nice for them for the next couple of days so that's something I guess.

  7. Evening all.

My first quiet and relaxing hour for weeks so I thought I'd pop in to see if the weather is going to be nice for my son and friends who are camping next week and what do I read.........a storm coming!

They're off to Epping Forest so I hope it isn't near there at least.

And my outside watermelon has it's 1st male flowers out, so the female ones should be out soon and I'll be gutted if they're ruined. I'll have to put a plastic cover over them.

    Is a storm likely?

  8. 28c in my living room and bedroom. It's going to be a difficult night to sleep again. I'd love a really good storm right now, it  would clear the air and drop the temp a bit.

But on a positive note my watermelon plant is happy :) and finally putting on some good growth. Just need it to flower asap so I win my bet with Mr Tadpole, but I do have a great butternut squash crop this year, that's much better than last year.

  9. I'm probably out on a limb here, but I love this weather :)

Might have something to do with the fact that I'm a housewife these days. I used to be a grumpy manager in this weather but no more. The upside of being made redundant in 08 and discovering we can scrape by just, on one income.

Hubby on the other hand HATES anything over 20c so he's grumpy but I remember what it's like, so I really feel for anyone working in an  non airconditioned office / shop / warehouse or outside.Wouldn't it be nice though to have air con bedrooms.........

  10. Been so windy here my pond plants keep blowing over and my squash frame's been swaying so I put some hooks in the fence and tied it to it.

Other than the wind it's been quiet pleasant here and I need a dry Sunday please, well at least near Guildford.

I'm at my mother in laws on Sunday and don't want to be stuck indoors all day especially as she has a nice large garden so my daughter's dogs can run around. 5 Adults and 2 dogs in a small 2 bed bungalow isn't good. I know I've done it before.

I'd like a nice day down at Greatstone too on Saturday as I'm back at mums on the beach again. British beaches are miserable when it's wet.

But alas I seem to have rain forecast every day for the next few days.

When's the next batch of sunny weather due?
