  1. Lets all get together and push the cold block West so we don't get milder, the more of us that do this; the better On a slighly more serious note; yes, it is disappointing that though we are going to get a lot of snow today. it's going to thaw quite quickly. However, it has been a very good cold spell and we're now going to be getting a much milder and winder weather pattern for the next 2 weeks. We will end up with having had a bit of everything this winter which can mean that one can learn many different things about meteorology and different weather patterns. Lets be positive since Winter is not over and February or even March can still potentially bring snow.
  2. We'll have to see what the model runs are like tomorrow but it is interesting and as I said earlier, I don't think that the mild winning out in the weekend is as clear cut as previously thought since I find it hard to believe that this entrenched cold can just be got rid of that quickly. This model watching is quite fun really whatever weather we end up having; mild or cold.
  3. This block is showing more resistance than previously modelled. The ECM also hinted at this earlier on.
  4. Quite heavy here but does not appear to be settling.
  5. Looks like from the radar you will get some of the brighter colours towards you but we'll just probably miss out..
  6. The radar showing darker blue colours over us but nothing falling from the sky ...
  7. Looks like we'll just miss out on this heavy band..
  8. I don't think what you are saying is rubbish, it's a valid point. Let's just see what happens ...
  9. I just can't see it being that straightforward that the Atlantic will just ram through without much of a battle. I still think that the Atlantic is favourite to win in the weekend (as the models have been consistently indciating) and we might be in a zonal period for at least a couple of weeks but we'll just have to see.
  10. Didn't a similar situation happen a year or two again (don't exactly remember when) when until 48 hours before, the constant prediction was that the Atlantic would slam through the cold block but against the odds the block ended up winning. I know that this block has actually not been very strong but you never know. The fact that the breakdown has been delayed by a day shows how the models may be underestimating how stubborn a cold block can be and perhaps overestimating the power of the Atlantic.
  11. Looks like we might get a bit here but not as much as those of you further South West though if the system intensifies as it moves northwards then our accumulations may become quite siginificant still.
  12. Very light snow here, nothing significant to be honest ...
  13. Still snowing here, it has been snowing for 14 hours now; amazing. There may not be much more to come now from what is shown on the radar but it is very slow moving.
  14. Getting a little lighter here but the radar shows more to come still I think.
  15. Just watched the bbc national forecast and they said at the end to' not expect it to warm up this week' The models have suggested a possible breakdown towards the end of the week though they are not in complete agreement as to how and when this occurs. Therefore, do the met office think that the breakdown may occur at the start of next week ? Interesting times...
  16. Snow only started settling on the main roads towards the late afternoon, it may have very briefly turned a little sleety in the afternoon. However, its snowing quite heavily now and it appears from the radar that there may be a lot more to come this evening ...
  17. Not snowing here at the moment, there has been the odd flurry in the last couple of hours but nothing much really. Maybe a little more to come later in the evening ? We've had at least 13cm here; a very memorable day.
  18. It was meant to be in mostly eastern areas but is now getting modelled further and further west.
