  1. Well spotted just shows how things change quick and this if it hits shouldn't be marginal at all, met have now 5 hours of snow here from mignight

zilch hours here, now until thurs, also what gfs suggests

ive just looked and they giving nothing for me either :nonono: think it'll be a case of radar watching again

  2. True, but you can only go on what's forecast and currently that's cold but dry. Yes things may crop up but they aren't currently forecast to.

You'll remember a few days ago it was looking potentially quite snowy Mon/Tue, so a dry forecast seems a bit of a letdown at present.

is that little feature that was supposed to run down the north sea coast been cancelled?haven't been in the MOD thread for a coupple of days.

  3. Not misguided, as far as I am aware it is later today and tonight before we get the proper cold. We then need precipitation though to get snow and this will sometimes not become evident until a few hours beforehand.

yes,was just pointing out, that the current bemoaning of the cold is a bit premature as it isnt really going to get going till tonight/tomorrow, and as the "polar low" showed, little features can and probably will pop up in the flow.

  4. I was under the (probably misguided) impression that the cold spell "proper" wasn't starting until tonight,as a front sweeps south and turns the wind northerly, straight from the pole, as opposed to the wnw currently.

I cant complain tho, done ok so far, even had a couple of inches from the polar.low, and has been snowing this morning although its now a bit drizzly.

  5. I'd ignore the bbc forecast right now. They're likely using data which is hours old.

I'm not saying they are wrong, far from it. But it's a tricky low to predict, so there is still a lot to play for.

but surely they are watchin the current radar images the same as we are? and hi res models? i wouldn't like to bet against them though :D maybe they don't think it will weaken too much and as such take a more southerly track as opposed to weaking and swinging south east?

  6. I'm a 4 miles SE of you..I'm hoping for the same however melting here

yeah ive got the dreaded drip drip of the thawing snow, but i think any precipitation that falls will be snow, especially as we will be on the eastern side of this polar low.

  7.

So with that heavy finger of precipitation off the coast of northwest England, I'm going to for it passing through Stoke, Leicester and Northampton. Could give some quite prolonged falls...it's quite a drawn out peice of precipitation. Might even go a bit further east than that looking at it again.

    Enjoy!

ive got my eye on that too , looking good for my location( DE11) by the time it gets this far inland, it wont be as intense but possibly give maybe an hour of snow?

  8. looking at some of the maps available , it looks like an area of precipitation , probably showers moving through wales into the mids by 03.00 and virtually covering the entire midlands by 06.00 moving on out into the sea during the day.

850's look good , dew points marginal though,

interestingly tho, bbc site showing heavy snow for my postcode , just need to work out how to post images now!!

  9. Very good UKMO, average ECM but not without interest and kind of a meh either/or GFS

Better than the last few months though, so here's hoping we are on the right track.

i'm still on the fence with this saga.

been watching the mod thread for the last week and there is definite interest there no doubt, i really don't want to get my hopes up to high.

people say with an easterly you need the ukmet model on board and that has been leading the way, the ecm operationals seem to be (correct me if wrong) a little too progressive compared to the mean

all signs point to a cold plunge but how cold and for how long.?

if some of the charts that have been showing come to fruition, then one thing is for sure the midlands will get a pasting Posted Image

if the charts are still as good come sundays 12z's i'm in with both feet , and shall be telling all and sundry snowmaggeddon is coming!!

  10. I do believe that only catastrophic changes ( with more and worse to come ) will sway humanity towards a kinder use of the planet he lives upon? No matter what Science tells us as long as there is 'Money to be made' then folk will seek to cash in. The current socio-economic system demands us to behave this way and reject any project that does no show 'profit' for those investing in it. The only times we have seen this pattern of being overthrown was when society reacted to clear and present danger. Should Greenland/the Arctic become accessible before a large enough crisis arrives then we will be there to 'harvest' the materials that become accessible there.

    What can you do?

I think there is case to be made that multinational companies run the world.

have you two been watching zeitgeist??

i don't think "we" will stop until pretty much all the known oil and gas has been used.does anyone know how many years of oil are left in the entire planet?

  11. "i discovered a wasps nest in the attic earlier this spring , straight up the hardware store for some nest killer and it had 2 doses."

As far as I am aware it is only the queen that over winters. So in the spring any nest was last years and empty. Seems that 2 does might not have been needed.

    http://www.rentokil.co.uk/blog/wasps-in-winter/

It was late may iirc . i only did it twice because the mrs insisted. she could hear noise which turned out to be birds nesting in next doors attic. Going to go up and remove it before winter
  12. Anyone noticed how nasty wasps are getting? Mum got stung just putting washing out and dad nearly got stung attending to the cabbages which then chased him round garden. Quite a few of them this year.

why did the cabbage chase your dad?Posted Image

i discovered a wasps nest in the attic earlier this spring , straight up the hardware store for some nest killer and it had 2 doses. i can't say i've noticed that many about this year to be honest, even in the hot spell last month, just waft them out the way with your hand and they soon buzz off
