there is no snow falling in ashton now! its stopped a few mins ago. it was only light but was giving a little cover.
back to the models i go to find the next chance we have!

i think we gone past the stage of looking at the models! look at raintoday or the netweather radar.
its snowing here pretty heavy now and sticking, no cover yet though!

northwest snow shield in operation on the weather update just giving on bbcnews channel!
seems a south east wind is going to stop the snow making it to us according to the bbc!
but as others have indicated the south of the region will still be ok.
i hope bt is right in the hope that there is an eastward correction to the models when it actually happens!

I need de-briefing, just in from work, back on early tomorrow so havn't time to delve into the charts, don't tell me..... there's a warm front coming in and there is no snow for the north west
i belive its more a case of the front bringing snow not making it as far across the region being the problem..

temps are dropping back towards freezing here now! dew points well below that around -4oC

Can't believe NORTH WEST ENGLAND is actually the prime position for once. Jesus, gonna film every second of this event. Won't see another one for 300 years.
its just beyond beliveable for me. we never are the centre of an attack. i can hardly stay calm now and its two days away, and im off work till monday now!

Looks like the snow has moved away from me. Only on my mobile so can't get a decent look but the big snowfalls have gone from the 10 forecast on nw.

just got the old man to update the data on the station at there house. -2.4oC so i can just lower mine by 2oC at night and it will be near enough right!

As Chiono has just said the SSW is influencing the pattern now because of the slowing and then reversal of the zonal winds above 60N, however the full downwelling into the troposphere often takes upto 21 days from the technical SSW.
IMO we would have had no chance of any of the current trends without the SSW.
I do understand however the frustration of our Irish members because the current pattern hasn't really delivered that far west.
or us in the north west! we had snow i guess which is more than ireland but was all wasted! damn light/wet snow not the heavier snow second time round!
hoping this friday is going to be really special for us in the north west! gutting to see it snow but no accumulate and then to the south and the east be loads of lying snow

when did you calibrate it last?
Is it an all in one weather station? If so most of these types of station's struggle with low temperatures. Where did you put the outside sensor? It should not be more than 5 feet off the ground, and it should be away from any sort of artificial heating.
I think some of us have Davis Pro station's in the garden, which don't suffer from the same problems.
its a cheapo nasty one! my decent weather station is at my parents as i dont have anywhere to put it at my house! i need to school my mum in uploading the data to wunderground so i can get the data off there! its my own lazy fault and something i will be rectifying myself tomorrow haha!
doesnt help that the other weatherstation half a mile up the road has stopped putting there data on wunderground too
closest is mossley which is always colder than here! -
my sun loving mini weather station is reading -0.3oC feels colder than that!
