  1. I really cant see the cold not coming. To go through a winter season we have, everything comes around at some point. Last year it was early, this year later (hopefully). Part of my business is gritting and with sitting on 100 tonne of salt you would think I would be panicing, but im not..... nature will give us cold at some point. The farmers Ispeak to are planning for the cold to come in February, so are cramming in the work now. Lets be optimistic!!! It will definately come! I am not saying it will be like last year, but I think we will have a period of 3 - 5 weeks of cold weather, cold nights at least. Frozen pitches and Rugby games being called off.

  2. Really Really Windy in Neath and during the night. Heavy down pours also....

Just to put this out there and feedback would be much appreciated. Has anyone got any current updates on any cold coming in? Is it still looking like the last week of January? There were indications that it was coming later and would be more prolonged into March, but reports im reading about March indicates a warmer than average month? Is this correct? All your professional views would be greatly appreciated.

    :good:

  3. Just got in from a shift. Covered the whole M4 stretch, Cardiff Docks, Cardiff, Bridgend, Llantrisant, Port Talbot, Swansea and Caerphilly - gritting car parks etc - it has been sleeting but there is no sign of snow. To be honest it has been really mild. The wind has given the chill factor. It has rained pretty much the whole night. The ground and surfaces are way to saturated so if we do get a flurry, it will be absorbed. Sorry to put a dampener on things. Also no council gritters spotted tonight, we normally see 10+ when we are out. Night All zzzzzz

  4. Another thing - really really weird - blue lightening last night. Couldnt believe my eyes! Saw it twice. Then one of the lads mentioned blue lightening this morning in the yard.....really really weird weather. So so mild. Yet I have never seen so much hail and sleet than that of what I have on and off over the last 36 hours, yet air temperatures and ground surface temperatures are high.

  5. Morning All.....with all the speculation at present on 'will it', 'wont it' and the great North and South divide at present - when do you all feel our Winter will properly kick in? At the moment the mornings are 'a little chilly' but nothing really to get excited about. The commercial reports I get are providing more amber readings (GS temps between 0-3 degrees), but its not hitting zero just yet. All my sites are along the M4 stretch (Swansea-Cardiff).

So............................ everyones views would be much appreciated on when they feel Winter will kick in for sure in the South (obviously I wouldnt ask this question in the Scottish thread!)

  6. Just before November I was looking at numerous different winter forecasts and the overall majority with the exception of people who like to the put the fear into the UK (cough Jame Mcfadden) were indicating winter to start around the 12th-19th of December with February ear marked as being the coldest month. It would seem and appear that this will be the case.....

Been scaffolding this morning on a farm in Llantrisant - absolutely blowing a gale!
