  1. A really cold day today, warmest part of the day was actually just after midnight, at 3C. Dipped down to -1.8C this morning and then struggled up to 0.9C this afternoon. A superb sunny day. The temperature is now dropping steadily, currently -2.7C. I just went for a run and ended up doing more sliding than running, the roads pavements are lethal with compacted snow and ice.
  2. I've just woken up and it's not the sharp frost i was expecting here.Temp still above freezing at 1C, but is dropping slowly.
  3. Quite a lot of the snow cover has melted here and side roads are mostly snow free, snow cover still remaining on footpaths, grass etc in places though. It's been mostly cloudy but dry since the snowfall this morning. The temperature reached 4C this afternoon. I was quite surprised how quickly the snow melted this afternoon given the temperature didn't get that high, it's been mostly cloudy and dewpoint has remained quite low. A bit of a stiff breeze has developed now and it feels really chilly and raw out, currently 3.4C.
  4. Temperature now dipping, currently -0.8C. it will be a treacherous rush hour.
  5. Yeah, does appear to be further South than forecast yesterday. This may be reflected by the latest metoffice forecast for the region. Yesterday, they were specifically mentioning snow developing in Cumbria, today they just say periods of snow developing in the region generally. Certainly an interesting day coming up.
  6. Just very light snow falling here at the moment and looks like that's probably it for the heavy stuff here for now. Got an inch of snow on the ground, so very satisfied with that. Judging by the reports around the region, the metoffice called this one well with the warning they issued on Sunday.
  7. Snow alternating between light and moderate here at the moment. Conditions still perfect for falling and settling snow. Temp -0.1C, dewpoint -1.1C.
  8. Yes, I think it will initially affect Northern parts of the region, but think it will sink South this afternoon and evening but probably more broken and showery.
  9. Been awake since 2.30. Tried to get back to sleep, but not going to happen! Moderate to heavy snow falling and a decent covering. Not been out to measure yet, but looks to be a couple of cm or so at least.
  10. Been coming down nicely here for the past 30 mins or so, with a full covering now.
  11. Days don't get much better than this in winter. Wall to wall sunshine and temperature not getting that much above zero. Max temp was 2.1C, but already down to -2.2C.
  12. Just woken and looked out so see everywhere white with a dusting of snow from overnight showers. Temp was down to -2.4C earlier, currently -0.7C. The metoffice forecast looks interesting for tonight. I don't think the question of whether Tuesday's feature will be snow or rain will be relevant for here as I don't think it will get this far South anyway.
  13. I have to admit, I am surprised that the updated text forecast for the region is still the same as earlier for Weds and Thursday, given the warning issued earlier. I suppose they have been clever with the wording, saying 'probably' drier. Anyway, they'll certainly be a lot of nowcasting this week, as is often the case with snow. I'm not expecting Tuesday to deliver much here. The main interest for me is Weds into Thursday in the showery regime with the flow backing to the NW.
  14. They must be expecting some significant shower activity and a switch in the angle of the wind to more North Westerly on Weds and Thursday. Anyone who ends up under a streamer could do very well. All still subject to change of course as still a few days away.
  15. A few rain showers this morning here. It's been mostly cloudy, although the sun made an appearance a short while ago. More dark clouds rolling in now. Current temp 5.2C.
  16. It will be interesting to see what the text forecast says for Wednesday and Thursday when updated this afternoon. I assume it will move more in line with the warning...
  17. Agree with this, a week with plenty of potential for snow coming up, hitting at the perfect time of year.
  18. The metoffice warning for Wednesday and Thursday doesn't tally at all with the text forecast for the region which states: "Probably drier and sunnier on Wednesday and Thursday. Staying cold with frost and ice" Has something changed in the 6 hours since they issued the text forecast?
  19. I was expecting a warning for Tuesday, but not for Wednesday and Thursday. The metoffice must have sufficient confidence, although its at the lowest end on the likelihood scale in the warning. Accumulations will depend on where showers/streamers set up of course, but nice to see the possibility of 10cm to lower ground.
  20. No air frost here, got down to 1.1C earlier currently 1.6C. Metoffice getting keener on the snow risk for Tuesday, now mentioning possible disruptive snow for the region. I expect an early warning will be issued later this morning for some parts of the region at least.
