No snow here yet but frequent hail showers however. Never seen settling hail till now.
-
The ground is almost dry now. Looking good!

There are a few sleety flakes in the air now. Getting colder. Anyway do you think I'm too far west to get 'proper' snow? I am literally on the very eastern edge of the pennines. Met office says nothing more than sleet for my area.
-
GFS says not a single flake for my area whilst netwx sr says a total of about 32mm of precipitation (32cm snow?!) for wednesday after 1800 through thursday. Clearly shows how the models have absolutely no clue lol!

Dec 2010 here in Chesterfield
I only got 3cm from that. and 10cm briefly in november that year.

Met office is saying rain only for my area on wednesday and thursday but they also have a snow warning issued. Eh?
-
Can anyone explain either if these?
1. How come there's freezing fog at airport but not here!? We're high up and only 10mins away and
2. I thought it was forecast to be sub zero tonight but the temp won't fall under 0.4c. Why isn't it falling.... Especially with snow cover and 142 asl.
I think it's to do with humidity. The temperature drops then the water condenses out of it dissipating heat into the atmosphere.

Evening all, roughly one foot of snow here approx 220m above sowerby bridge/triangle. It snowed very heavily from 9.30am till probably 1pm and then it snowed lightly till approx 4pm which is when it snowed heavily again. You need elevation for accumulation as in Sowerby bridge and nearby in Mirfield/Brighouse they barely have an inch whereas up here well we have buckets of it, and it's still snowing lightly.
Right I'm going to walk up the hill tomorrow.

This reminds me of march 2013 in a lot of ways. The first day of the snow was much like today except less intense and settling less too. Then overnight the snow turned light and powdery and piled right up. It has turned powdery here now so I am getting excited about what may happen by morning!

Fat clumpy flakes and dripping trees, roofs and snow sliding down of car roofs.
-
Still heavy here.
-
Snow really coming down here! Only 20p flakes but there is a huge amount coming down. Currently 3-4cm
Morning everyone!
Well its been a fantastic morning in Sheffield. Woke up to about 4 inches and its been snowing really heavy in the last hour or two and now up to 6 inches. Been great to see the heavy snow.
Here are some pics for you all to enjoy. Took these about 10 minutes ago:
:cold: :cold: :cold:
That's good. According to the radar all the snow in Sheffield is coming here! I hope it does.

Much of the snow melted overnight so back to a patchy covering.
-
Its stopped ah well. Got 3cm out of it anyway.
-
Snow is turning fine and light and I can hear water dripping. Looks like the front's going to stall after it is past my location.
-
It had better stall soon, I'm on the southern edge now!

Just reached 2cm for the first time since march 2013!
-
20p flakes here too. I hope it lasts.
-
I wonder if this year's record snow depth of 1cm will be broken?
-
Really coming down now. Just started to become visible on the ground now. Wanting this front to stall now with me directly under it!
-
Very strange type of snow falling here right now. Its almost exactly like little beads of polystyrene. It is also settling everywhere too.
-
Temp is steady here at about -0.5c.
-
Met office says light snow for my area from 2000 today till 1400 tommorow with temps not exceeding 1c and only reaching that briefly. Looks good!
