  1. Yes, but they haven't continued, and it isn't as warm as I was expecting, certainly not as warm as GFS was projecting. Still, tomorrow and Wednesday may produce 29C, and I suppose my expectations may be a little too high!
  2. While London basks in 30 degree heat, we up here have barely cracked 25C. It's like a different world - not even remotely heatwave-like. Pleasant, but unremarkable. I was actually expecting higher temperatures today.
  3. Highlighting just how unreliable models are past a certain range.. GFS goes from 31C in Cheshire, 29C widespread on Saturday, to a max of 26C in W areas, and 21 - 24C elsewhere.
  4. Scorcher - please bear in mind that not all of us layer up excessively during the winter. Regardless of conditions, I find a hoody and jeans suffices between November and February, therefore if I enter a room that is too warm, I can just remove the hoody without having to faff about with a large coat, a jumper, hats, gloves and everything else. Some of us certainly tolerate the cold far better than others, meaning that winter is not a time of inconvenience or trouble, but just another season. In fact, I find that most of the year, my attire consists of a hoody and jeans, so I rarely have to change, except during hot spells such as this, where shorts are a must.
  5. Of course not - but then, most people in the real world do not crave extremes of anything - and that includes excessively hot temperatures. Why do you think climates such as San Diego and Las Palmas have been voted the best climates in the world in the past? Due to their consistently pleasant temperatures, as opposed to stifling heat. Both are susceptible to extreme heat, but it's the exception to the rule. San Diego in particular has average highs not too dissimilar to London in the summer (but with much warmer nights), so that leads me to believe that most people want pleasant, usable weather and not the silly heat you crave. You are definitely an oddity like the rest of us, and to be frank, I don't care what the general public want or like, because they are not weather enthusiasts - I want interesting weather, and when looking at climates, I judge them on how interesting they are, and how variable their climate is, and not by how often I am able to go outside and tend to the garden or lounge by the pool. That's just me, but as they say, variety is the spice of life, and I crave change, and get bored quickly of repetitive things. I'll take 26C with low humidity, but also some storms and general heavy rain. No brown grass please - nothing appealing about that. Just enough rain to keep the grass green, but not so much that everywhere becomes muddy. Thunderstorms are best for this.
  6. No they're not - it's just the maximum possible temperature on that day. More like 30-31C.
  7. Today was great, temps of 25C, dews generally of 3 - 5C and humidity below 30%, and a lovely breeze - perfect for doing outside activities. I hope humidity is this low all the time next week.
  8. Only reason I want such temperatures is from a weather enthusiasts POV. I like extremes, but I would hate 30C every day.
  9. UK - 38.5C @ Brogdale, Kent Ireland - 33.3C @ Kilkenny, County Kilkenny.
  10. Yes, but look at the hot days preceding Sunday though, and there is plenty of time for changes.
  11. reports of fork lightning on TWO form the cell near Worksop.
  12. New provisional UK maximum temperature for 2013Latest observations show provisionally that the new highest temperature of the year so far has been recorded at Heathrow and Exeter Airport on Saturday 13 July, reaching 30.0 C. Before this, 29.9 C at Edenfel, County Tyrone in Northern Ireland on Monday 8 July was the previous UK maximum. Meanwhile, Scotland saw its highest temperature of the year so far during the afternoon of Tuesday 9 July, reaching 28.7 C at Strathallan Airfield. Issued at 1407 on Sat 13 Jul 2013.
  13. Lol indeed - plenty of time however. The atmosphere is so volatile - so much rising cumulus.
  14. Upgrade on the GFS 18z methinks - shows 29-30C on Weds & Thurs for here again, and above 25C on every day. Even Scotland looks pleasantly warm.
  15. I've only been browsing this forum until recently but I have to agree that certain members have a very hypocritical attitude - enjoying lecturing people about the negatives of cold, snowy winters, cool wet summers, but don't like it when people dare mention the negatives of warm, dry summers - and there are negatives, as much as I enjoy the warmth. All weather types have good points and bad points - some of the bad points of warm, sunny weather have manifested already, such as idiot boy racers and lots of litter in parks. People go crazy during this weather, some just don't know how to behave and end up making life uncomfortable for the rest of us by acting like such idiots. Basically, we are hopeless at dealing with adverse weather, even if the deviation from the average is only slight - too wet, dry, cold, hot - we can't keep on complaining about the weather every time it isn't exactly average, the weather has to deviate occasionally - we need to deal with it better. Going from severe floods to drought and vice versa in less than a year (a happened from 2011 to 2012) is really pathetic and should not happen.
  16. 29C at Church Fenton today. Feels stuffy - but at least a breeze has developed. An uncomfortable night to come.. and all of this after a chilly July night, if the hourly obs are anything to go by the temperature fell below 9C this morning, it was also misty and damp when I woke up at 6am. I love big diurnal ranges.
  17. Well, looks like no 30C today unfortunately due to an area of high cloud earlier suppressing temperatures slightly.
  18. Phew.. a bit hot. Both our local weather and the national weather mentioned 30C for N England on Friday.
  19. Good post Roger.. just need that high to move itself east a bit and it'd be something truly exceptional I bet.
  20. Only briefly though. Would be better to get a high without it slipping further west over time, meaning a lot of us get cool easterly winds and low cloud.
  21. It seems to be an impossible task to get that high to be directly centred over the UK this summer - always to the west. I won't be 100% pleased until we get that high centred over us, as opposed to the west of Ireland.
