  1. Met Eireann naming mate .. ahead of the curve .. Yesterdays Storm was Elin , this evening and overnight is Fergus Kicking in now here with violent gusts up around 60mph , conservatory roof banging away as is does with "named Storms" , accompanied by high pitch banshee'eque screeching when the big gusts hit.
  2. I was half tempted whilst detailing the car this afternoon with the pre-wash "Polar Blast Snow Foam" to go around the gardens and give them a festive white covering .. just so I could recall what said white stuff looks like The Chrimbo theme does look well !
  3. Storm Fergus's wrapped occlusion , is as well wrapped as party "pass the parcel"
  4. Could someone kindly give the record player a nudge please .. it appears to be stuck on the same old track Make of that what you will.. it could be applied to many comments
  5. I think I'll join the tipsy crew ... where shall we start A bottle of El Nino , followed up by a wee dram of AAM , shaken not stirred, with a touch of QBO-MJO , & polished off with flagon of SSW
  6. TBH I am in agreement with SunnyG, when compared to last weekend's filth , cold , wet and dark ,, this weekend is a breath of F9 fresh air ,,, lots done outside in the mild , often sunny yet windy Saturday .... and a gorgeous sunset to boot
  7. and not forgetting all of Wales , parts of NI and SW Scotland
  8. Likewise Mapantz .. I'll wait for the stats to land in the morning , but up around 40mm so far, well over half of the whole of November in total
  9. Would n't be so bad if it was a spring thaw .. finally .. after a heavy winter of snow and ice days as per the continentals From my perspective, having had to tolerate nigh on 3months (85 rain days) since the start of July, is a protracted "drying out" time , of dry and sunny weather be that cold crisp and sunny or even a Bartlett with a dry milder and sunnier southerly flow , but this would not go down well for the seasoned cold / snow chasers Nothing worse than a decent snow fall followed up by milder wet weather and subsequent rapid thaw within a short time frame .. (a few days)
  10. Dop radar looking like a fiery dragon about to consume NI & ROI May be its the lesser spotted ICE Dragon from Scandi
  11. Ahh with you now ( I think) Diamond Dust , only ever experienced this in the Alps when just popping out through the tops of the cloud base , amazing sight to behold https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io7L_tynCRQ&t=15s
  12. It does cut both ways though, as in the benchmark for summer heat is always 100f and not 37.7778c & winter is 0c Alexis mentioned about that summer heat was always Fahrenheit and winter cold was always Centigrade (Celsius) I'm old skool so run with both Although it would appear, based on last summer (2022) that the new 100f is now 40c +
  13. My stats are in and I concur with al78's appraisal Generally speaking .. marginally warmer both day and night , duller and wetter , when compared to the 1991-2020 Avg November , interestingly .. a proper dull fest , but drier .. Irish Sea Temps and cloud the reasoning
  14. Yup .. I'll run with that mate ... given the saturated landscape (July , August, Sept & October well above avg rainfall - 497.2mm vs the 1991-2020 avg of 302mm for said months) .. a Bartlett would be most welcome, perhaps a belated Indian summer? or have we had that already ? dressed up as a mild cloudy affair I'll be glad to see the back of this bleak November , just a paltry 34.3hrs of sun , again "warmer" than avg both by day and night , although this weeks colder incursion will drop night time temps a notch , rainfall though has been somewhat less than the 1991-2020 avg Data: courtesy of the Valley Met Station
  15. For a split second Metwatch I thought you had captured a "Steve" Lovely pics as ever mate
  16. For sure mate ... never known such a prolonged period of sun and dry weather ... combined 557 hrs for May and June, interestingly the combined sun for the 4 months thereafter, July to October is only 6 hrs more at 563hrs
  17. Dunno mate I am scraping 30hrs here for Nov thus far (sub 50% for the 1991-2020 Monthly Sun) , dull as dull thing on a dull day in dullsville Bless the Buxton'ites
  18. Day 10 in Wirral .. remember Storm Kyrill 18th Jan 2007 , one of the most destructive euro wind storms this century ,, primarily down to the path it took across northern europe, covering many countries We were at West Kirby waiting for the wind to ease off a tad , lakeside ano readings were showing gusts in excess of 80kts
  19. Hi Steve , did n't realise Arnside was in Cumbria . Here's a useful link to wiki euro named storms,, Sounds like Storm Gero of Jan 2005, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_European_windstorms#2000–2009
  20. "Battening down" now in hand, not helped by a clutch of heavy showers tracking in off the Irish Sea K-P System and possible Sting Jet formation ?
  21. Debi will make for an interesting school run here tomorrow morning, especially with the Menai Bridge down to one lane and closed to high sided vehicles, forcing the high siders to run the gauntlet over the primary route on and off the Island .. the A55 over the Britannia Bridge, which during high wind conditions is also closed for high siders, they are normally routed / diverted to the Menai Bridge. 0800hrs has the windflow WSW up at 70mph straight up the Menai Straits ... worst case scenario for both bridges The strongest of Debi's winds more than likely will be a narrow band, affecting the south of the Isle of Man and down towards Anglesey, and on into the coasts of Cumbria, Morecambe Bay and down to the Ribble Est. and Preston, then transitioning east across Nw England over the Pennines around mid day, and on into NE England for the afternoon. A pretty gnarly day on the cards, it is Autumn, so somewhat BAU And also the significant winds across Eire on Debi's southern flank on approach, prior to day break , with strong winds affecting NI on her NE Flank, as Debi transitions from Ireland across the northern Irish Sea into Sw Scotland Met Eireann have Debi at Red Alert status & noted on the ECM StormTrack
