  1. 950mb (Fax @ 949mb  12z @ T120 )   that is a deep depression ,   ECM 12z has aligned with the UKMO on the 12z , prior runs had it swinging up through Eire ,  all 3 models now in reasonable agreement

    image.thumb.png.9e377b3d8663481c573067e7dbf6bd86.png

That is one hell of pressure differential on the SE , South and Sw flanks , Isobars as tight as camels ar*e in a sandstorm , 10mb pressure differential over 70-80 miles ,  to quantify that;  north wales coast to south wales coast is circa 135 miles , a typical F8 Westerly would be delivered from an 8mb pressure differential between north and south coasts of wales

    Edit: added Fax @ 120hrs

  2. Keeping a close eye on Thursday's proceedings with respect to UKMO , ECM & GFS for the track and intensity of this little fellow,  circa 955mb is quite a rarity for the UK , a tad blowy for the Sw, and South of the M4

Today locally was a carbon copy of the final days of February 2021; same sun strength and feeling, 850hPa temperatures about the same and also same surface temperatures.

The only difference was that during Feb 2021 the atmospheric pressure was around 45hPa higher.

For here as well Metwatch factoring in the October SSTs here, considerably warmer than Feb SSTs, will add to a warmer "feels like" temp,

    Can I guess? February 26th 2019

That said baddie that date was epic for here , pre covid I was working in Hemel H two week stretches only returning home every other weekend so would have missed that epic day here .. thanks .. and spot on , probably one of the best feb days for sun and warmth here .. ever

Tues (Mardi) 26th of Feb 2019

😊  nooo  it was back in the mid 90's I think pre Isle of Anglesey when I lived in Stockport.
Here it is rare as rocking horse poop to have windless days anytime of the year .. this October has been the exception to the rule with several windless sunny days .. makes all the difference in what it "feels like"

😊  I can only recall one Feb day where shorts and a T were worn,   this Oct has delivered several thus far

Pleasant enough today, but doesn't really feel like spring. Just feels like a pleasant autumn day.

The weekness of the sun is still noticeable and the strength at the moment is equal to what it would be in mid February.

Yes but you cannot compare October with Feb in terms of the "feel" of the sun, as atm the sun shines through a warmer 850 blanket than you would have in Feb

Discouraging start with fog and major dampness has turned into a fantastic warm and calm afternoon the shorts stay out for another day

Yay .. similar here today, surprised how warm the sun is atm ,    another late October day that eclipses July and August 2023 for sun and warmth, heavy dew overnight here so was a tad damp to start with

  9. Another bonus October day , wall2wall sunshine, zero wind, and warm in the sun , another Shorts and T day , with a beautiful sunset to finish off,  a day that  bettered any day in July and August here.
Reminded me of the 70s when we had half term school hols in Abersoch,  mild  and sunny and swimming in the sea

Lowest I can see for my neck of the woods is Dec 2011 with a paltry 21.3hrs ,  not checked others months , as I figured Dec with the least daylight hours would be a good place to start

I mean actually no sunshine, March and July are not options because they at least had more than 0 hours. Even Jan 1996 had more than 0

The good thing about today is we don t have a westerly so the front of the house is dry..

And we re sheltered here anyway, its just exceptionally record breaking wet morning which should ve had an amber in NE wales but didn t..

Yes , quite rare to get prolonged heavy rain from the NE ,  my back / side door receiving a good old pasting today, and blowing old boots too , winds on the up as I type gusting 50+

Yes quite an unusual Storm System this one as al78 mentioned above,   with a 974mb LP stalled over the southern UK and going nowhere fast. Typically storm systems of this depth transition the UK quickly empowered by the Jet Stream.  this case a very deep low with no Jet stream to move it through , in conjunction with a strong Scandi Block of a reinforced concrete wall

An interesting stat would be the length of time (hours) of mslp over the UK of sub 975mb, I wonder if there exists a record for that?  perhaps one for the "stats gurus" on here  😉

How many more weather fronts is it possible to stick on and around 🇬🇧 😂

lol  🤣   & commensurate with a July 2023 chart mate .. pretty sure I posted similar back then , as to "how many fronts can the UK accommodate with one LP System"

Enjoy your cold and rain, it’s what you want!

noooo !   take this filth away and bring back the sun, light winds and warmth, as per the start of the week, much more useful & pleasant than getting battered and p1ssed on

No sorry totally disagree, this very decent temp is causing the flooding issues!

I won't disagree with you bud as the higher than normal temps are associated with Storm Babet... BUT you could also say the extensive rain, specifically over north east Scotland and severe flooding is due to the Scandi Block preventing Storm Babet's fronts from transitioning north wards and stalling over said region

A bit off topic but I can't decide the best place to post the following:

What' is now the best place for good satellite imagery showing cloud cover? (not rain, just cloud).

I used to use meteoradar.co.uk and sat24.com but they've very recently made some changes and both sites now show inferior quality imagery. Even the met office's cloud imagery is terrible.

    So what are the alternatives?

    Thanks

Hi Buzz , morning .. I tend to stick with the Windy.com website (non-premium / free)

Lots of options to select, (Blue, Vis, Infra)    & different cloud levels can be viewed via the menu to the right (Cloud base, Low Clouds etc)

It appears ahead of the winter season sat 24 has had a big upgrade with new look radars

View live satellite images in high resolution of United Kingdom on the cloud radar at SAT24 and see where the sun is shining or the rain is falling.

    Thanks Summer Sun 🌞  Bookmarked!

Morning all .Another wet spell for Ireland here with orange and yellow warnings and possibly RED for Eastern Scotland through the rest of the week.. Just a Question for someone on the forum..The new rainfall radar has now been installed at Shannon Airport In the Southwest after months of upgrading..Why does Netweather not have the rainfall showing yet on there radar as clearly Dublin Airport is used and it also shows how heavy and intense babet will be going forward.  I know we can all look at Met Eireann but would be great to see the broad picture as we can see the whole Celtic sea.. This is and looks like a very wet spell..

A good point mate .. and the same applies to the UKMetO , Observations ,  albeit forecast rain is shown
