My public transport storm chase is underway (out for night in london) Bournemouth >shampton coach light rain with sun trying to break through. Sat waiting for coach to winchester feels very close
-
Quick question for those storm chasers here.Do you get the same buzz watching a storm miles away from your home as you would in your own garden/road/house?
Whenever i have intercepted a storm 'away from home' the pleasure factor is there for sure but still a 'if only' it had hit my area! Maybe just me?
I like the chase as much as the storms. Driving for hrs and trying to get yourself into that sweet spot.
Saying that sitting with a beer in the garden last night was nice

I'm currently in Christchurch Dorset, feeling muggy, cloud clearing and sun trying to come out.
Looks like I could be in for a fun / unconventional storm chase for me. Getting the National Express coach to Winchester this arvo and then train up to London this evening.
I'm having the window seat

Can anyone see anything over the channel. That mass of lightning is HUGE! And getting closer...
im sat in the garden in Christchurch Dorset about 1/4 mile from the coast and high level cloud building and started looking darker by the minute to the south. I have few more beers and some gin so will be out here for a while and keep you updated

First very faint rumble heard, it's flashing a lot more often than the live map is indicating, I'm seeing near constant flashes on the horizon.
Agree, lots of distant flashing and constant deep rumble
-
So it's gone 3am, how we all doing?
The beer is all gone and on the wine now
-
morning all. Just been for a cig and think I heard distant thunder

Think Im making my move, Barton on sea / Hurst castle near Lymington
-
The multicell cluster will track due north and start to then track NNW following the upper flow to make landfall between southampton and bournemouth and track towards Salisbury and then start to turn towards Bristol & SE Wales.
Like the sound of that, will sit tight in Christchurch and make a last minute dash E/W, Thanks

Come to Winchester Dave i'll make you a cup of tea and give you some coffee! - (or scrap that the view is no good compared to the sea!!)
I'm well excited.
Coffee sounds good but not liking the bad view
Think Im going to hang tight for another 1/2hr and see what the SE of the cell does

Morning all.
Have a shed load of things to do b4 work at 2.30pm but with that storm now heading my way I think I have just changed my plans.
Got the car and thinking I will be chasing very soon
Anyone fancy making a call on which way I should head from Bournemouth to get in position, got no mob. internet just Mc donalds free wifi or should I sit tight for a while?
Very excited Dave

Evening all
In Christchurch Dorset and Im liking the chance for this way in next few hrs. Convergance zone pushing up in next couple hrs, lifted index -1/-2, vertical sheer and a bit of CAPE to play with.
That gap in the rain / storms moving out of france is due to the Lifted index in that area being possitive I think, as shown on the forcast maps?

Agreed they are progressing WNWNWNNWNW'wards every so slowly, so not exactly due Westwards.
-
Due South of the M4 corridor East of Reading looks good right now, showers are invariably travelling East to West over the downs right now I say, judging by the raIve
Ive only got til 3pm, got to be back to pick up my girlfriends daughter in Christchurch but told her we will go chase after school if its on, she is only 5, start them young
May blast up through the forest towards M25

Think im going to head up to ringwood so I can go E/W on the A31 and hoping the line of showers from Shampton-Pmouth will develope.
Have no mobile internet but taking laptop so can find wifi spots and will update if pos and hope I get some good pics / vid
