Oh no, I feel for you! Cambridge had it bad today! When I was young (up until about 10 years old) I absolutely hated thunderstorms. I used to cry, shake and get under the covers of my bed and block my ears. I remember once when I was on holiday in Spain with my parents there was a huge thunderstorm with localised flooding and I absolutely hated it. The worst thing was that my parents and brother were laughing it off. Some way to comfort a 7 year old child eh?!
Anyway, I found that facing your fears really helps. I do a lot of fishing and got caught out in a lightning storm once when I was about 15. As I had no car (was too young to drive) I just had to sit it out in the open. Rods came out of the water and I just sat in the open getting absolutely drenched. For some unexpainable reason this got me very interested in severe weather and my fear went after that day. Now just booked a trip out to the States on Netweathers Storm Chase 2012 tour and chase around my area whenever there is a possibility. Still get the jitters sometimes with lightning!
Hope you find a way, whatever way it may be to find a cure
