  1. global warming where the temperture increases and it feels colder?fool.gif....Then again we have to accept its the uk.. You have to have laugh.. I bet from space everytime the the United kingdom comes into view on the international space station its covered in a thick blanket of cloud...

Lets all sing the sun has got his hat on and July/August and September are scorchers clapping.gif... Then i will complain i can't sleep at night because its to warm...lazy.gif

  2. Well there was last summers forecast of summer of 76..weatheroutlook predicted a good start to June.. You can gurantee no one predicted how poor April was going to be.. The long range forecasting doesnt seem to work.. I was being truthful personally when it came to this summer. Having seen how the last 6 summers have gone.. Its been a similar patern..

Im no expert but i do understand the jet stream and to be frank its this south because its meant to be.. Thats all my annoyance is about..

  3. The lastest summer forecast? its not possible to predict the weather in the uk long range anyhow..ive read numerous predictions in advanced most of the predicting a good summer..

When on reality the jet stream stays to the south of us on many occasions.. Thats the way the weather is in the uk.

Then we get other forecasters telling us to keep our fingers crossed the weather improves by the end of the month.. I wish the truth was told about the jet stream.. It barely goes to the north of us.. In recent times its been even further south...

2012 will be another average to poor summer.

  4. Can i make an observation?? Why is the Jet stream expected to be more norther than it currently is? A bbc weather forecaster just said this.. From what i've seen in recent summers this is not the case..

Maybe its not meant to be? and on occasion it does drift slightly more north or lessons to some extent.

But that in an exception to the rule...

Sorry am no weather expert.. But i'd like to know what exactly the facts are regarding the Jet Stream..

  5. Even if the weather changes for June.. We will get 4 days of above average tempertures but it will be cloudy.. For the next two weeks after that it will be below average and windy..This accurance as been a common theme in the last 5 summers.. Ofcourse we don't get summers like 2006 and 2003 that often. But these days we dont even get a week of decent settled warm weather..

There in lays the problem with the weather for some people. The weekend may have been nice out of the wind.. But thats one weekend! from today onwards the weather as gone back to the original state..

  6. what annoys me is some weather forecasters that make people believe the weather is getting better in a few days. Take John Hammond for instance. And the really poor bank holiday weather.. In his forcast he metions there will be no heatwave this weekend... Why mention the word heatwave in a forecast. It gives people the impression one is about to happen.. When its obviously not going to..

The public are fed up with the current cold wind and rain.. I dont recall 2 months in a row where its felt this chilly for instance.. it seems a common theme in recent years..

  7. Last years summer was the coldest for almost 20 years... Recently the weather has been poor.. Thats why you get the smiling weather forcasters bringing out stastics for how warm its been..Like on christmas day 2011 it was 15c in Aberdeen now its 7c...

I think most of us have been disappointed of the recent summers.. Even if its been dry for months on end the summers have been equally poor..

  8. Hello again.. Sorry i have not had time to read the entire conversation.. But would like to ask a question to the historians of weather contributers on these here forums..

With the weather that is predicted in the following days. Is this kind of weather unheard of at this time of year IE to last for several days with the highs that are predicted. As there been cases in the past say 20/30/40 years of it occuring?.

  9. You cannot learn from long term forecasts because its impossible, there is countless vairables in the english climate. Only last weekend they predicted wednesday and thursday was going to be nice in my area inparticular, it poured it down yesterday and looking out the window am in for similar conditions today.. Sorry for going off on a tangent you can look at charts but all it takes is one day to go wrong in the chart and it throws everything off kilter..

  10. Northern france and the Holland get pretty much what we get to... We get a good summer once in a while.. A poor summer now and then and most of the time a stop start affair..

I must say i was pretty miffed myself with last summer,I would take that right now compared to this summer.. From what i hear we are not going to get a single summer month this year .at least June was good in 2010.. At least we havent had them nights where its been difficult to sleep.Thats been a blessing in disguise...

  11. The problems i think people are having is with the summer weather we have had in the last say 5 years.. There is no settled periods at all.. Am no weather expert but surely we are due some kind of settled warm spell in one of these summers? So people see whats happening and are writing off this summer too..

  12. But we're just having a 'normal' summer, Dave...Normal, in the sense that we've all seen it many times before. Just because we've not seen a 'scorcher' since 2006 doesn't equate to a 'sudden change in the climate' in my opinion...

PS: Since when has the North Atlantic Drift 'shut down'?

I totally agree with these sentiments.. we are not Spain or Greece.. We get what we are given in the UK..If we dont get a settled summer month we don't. As its simply not guranteed.. Knowing our climate September may well be the summer month we have all longed for since the end of May.Strange how April is turning out to be only decent warm month of the whole year though..

  13. I think the question to ask is why the Jet stream continues to place it's self to far south nearly every summer since 2006, questions have to be asked as to why this is happening, is it as you say Climate Change or Global Warming or is it something completely different?

Maybe we only notice the nice summers and ignore the countless summers where the Jet stream stays this far south? and thats just part of our weather in the UK?..
  14. The jet is pretty weak and sinusoidal at the moment (unusually so for July)

    Hello again :acute:

You say its unusal for July? I would like to add that its not..And the previous Julys have proven this?... We are lucky in the UK if the Jet stream pushes that far north for long enough to give us a good a summer.. But the Usual weather in the summer is a mixture of everything..

  15. Welcome back drinks.gif

It's a fair point, from my memory last year was better locally. Tony, can you chart the last couple of years against this year from the weather station? I'd be interested to see where it stands so far this year.

    Ian

:drinks: Thanks .... From what i recall from last year we had almost 5 weeks of good weather from the start of June till the first week in July then it went belly up..

  16. A pleasant enough Summer so far. Most days warm and bright enough to be outside enjoying it at some stage. Better than the last 4 easily.

At least while the overall patterns been unsettled, the showery actuality has meant few widespread washouts and with some areas still crying out for a proper wet spell.

Sorry to put a spanner in the works again... But last summer upto the current dates on both years.Last year was far better then its currently been in 2011..
