  1. Isn't it time to just let this go? We held our hands up, repeatedly, it went wrong. Sorry.

Now get over it, we have.

As for your theories and opinions about the timing of the forecast, you really must try to think things through before you hit the 'Post' button, it could lead to time on the naughty step.

    goodbye

  2. i see nothing wrong with the term 'shades of 76'... if people are too stupid to understand the term then thats their problem...

I think next summer will be shades of 2003... If it turns out to be like 2007 then the "general public" will be to stupid to realise its not..

In my personal opinion. The netweather summer forecast was late this year. For the reasons they were wondering wether to post their findings of how they believe the summer will turn out,and to steal the headlines they mentioned 1976 in the headline..

I hope from now on, no one will exgerate without "real evidence" and with the uk weather being as it is. There is no real evidence to what will happen..

  3. Sadly, I agree with you. Even when comments like those are well-meaning it doesn't stop the general public from twisting them into a lot more than they really mean (e.g. "shades of 1976" gets corrupted to "this will be another 1976").

Sorry the usage of 1976 in the orginal forecast gives the general public it was going to be like the summer of 1976.. You can't blame the general public. You need to blame the people that used that summer in the forecast..

Just take alook at the responces of the "general public" on this site everyone was over joyed. Proper summer for once some mentioned etc..

Further more from what iv'e seen of late the forecast a week ahead keeps changing..I read up on how the second half of July was going to be an improvement that was 4 days ago from forecasters. Now its changed again.. Long distance forecasting does not work (IMO) There as so many variables in the bristh weather its imposible to predict more then 4/5 days ahead..

  4. Yes I disagree, our weather is dominated at times by the Atlantic, but to say we are more or less always Atlantic influenced is an over-statement.

Okay yes we have been getting low pressure systems swinging in from the Atlantic this month, but take April and May as an example, that was dominated mostly by heat, and winds from the South.

Your May might have had heat,But here in west yorkshire May was quite sunny but not overly warm..Months like April are an exception to the rule in the UK.

if the winds dont come from the south or south east we dont get any heat even in the summer. we do on ocassions when the jet stream moves north. But the jet stream is never reliable to stay north of us for very long.. All am trying to convey is the summers the original poster wants is not factual to the summers we get..

Everyone remembers summers like 2003 1995 2001 and 2006.. But there in the minority compared to what we actually see..

And recent summers we have been influenced either from LP or HP being centered to the NW...

  5. How summer is meant to be? If our Feburarys and Marche's were as warm as Spains and the rest of the med..then later on in the year the tempertures would be higher during the summer months. the more norther you go the colder it is,stands to reason.. We are influenced by the atlantic more or less most of the time..

  6. Lets face it the summers in the UK apart from the odd good Summer that everyone remembers because they were good, summers are usually unsettled with the odd good week thrown in now and again..

Summer 2011 will turn out to be poor again. Why? well there is no sign of it settling down for along time and when it does it will be to late yet again..if you want good summers go south :acute:

  7. Well we haven't seen that much rain in recent months.. After we get a glimse of summer..next month sometime..It will be a passing thought. We will get one of them slow moving lows that will sit directly over us.Winds will drop and low will stagnate and stay around for along time..

Of late we are getting weather fronts that bring bands of showers day after day.Alot of us are hoping to see a big area of HP to build in from the SW moving the weather fronts north... I think we will get a big low that will build in.The winds will drop like i said and we will be stuck with it. Therefore ending the remaining part of the summer...

  8. June 16.

Why not sod off until september, then come back and gloat............... Maybe.

Whos gloating? we may well get a good July. But i understand the british climate quite well.. one of the next two summer months maybe August is going to be extremely wet... if we do get some good weather in July. August with go with a bang and rain for weeks on end.. Thats just my prognosis...

  9. Oh yes its about time we emphasised the positives as well as the negatives on the model thread. Very much looking forward to the next 3 days being something more resembling summer. But as the title suggests this thread is for moaning and theres still plenty to moan about at the moment.

Yeah the rain is heading back in for the latter end of the week

  10. I know what you mean. Being consigned to the house in mid summer is a horrible feeling. Compare that to a nice summer evening when you can just wander outdoors when you please and potter around the garden. Weather like this just defeats the object of having light evenings as they are totally pointless.

Taking into consideration your points of view on light evenings and they being pointless. The north pole gets even more light then we do at this time of year..would you wish to potter about there on a evening in shirt sleeves?..

Anyway moving on! i know this is a whining thread! but i'd like to be a bit more positive,Tuesday and Wednesday is looking like they wont be to bad weatherwise...

  11. All i would add to that is the past 2 years have followed good / warm June's this year June has been cool / wet, apart from 3 day's.

Very true! I personally don't think this summer will be a complete right off! as eventually we wiill get some stable air over us.After all it is summer.

I think the weather this year as been more highlighted because of the recent summers have been poor too..I guess we were all hoping for a much improved outlook for 2011..

The last good summer was 2006.Oh well lets hope the second half of july to mid september is alot warmer and more pleasent...

  12. No summer 2011 will be pretty poor... Once we get stuck in a rut. It stays like that...We have seen that for the last two summers in particular..two good Junes followed by poor Julys and August's..Hopefully the weather fronts will die out and allow high pressure to build in.Later on in the summer..But with the UK summer being short. The longer it takes the less good summer weather we get..The long range forecast says we are in for hotter summers..I think thats wrong we are in for more unsettled summers.

  13. Welcome to Netweather!

No one has said anybody has to follow, concur (or disagree) with this particular forecast but some reasoning behind your assumption would help others see your stance and reasoning more clearly. I could say I don't believe that next years Olympics will take place, but you wouldn't want me to leave a statement like that without evidence or reason eh? :D

I think you began the post with 'lets not insult anyone'.......

I want someone tell me what the weather will be like for the olympics? after all its only 13 months away..Seriously its seems im a baddie because i had issues with the outrageous statement of the similarites of the summer of 76 and the forth coming summer of 2011.

Netweather in my opinion were late in their summer forecast this year.Because they were not sure wether to go though with the sensational predictions. But to steal the headlines they went through with it anyhow..

  14. Predicate?

Anway, that is a rather brave first post.

I suggest you may be the one with burnt fingers insulting people in such a manner. The forecast may not be going to plan, but it was a valiant effort with a lot of hard work put in. To call the hard work done by GP a joke is quite an insult, especially when he has been correct many times in the past.

Lets not insult anyone lets keep stum?.To suggest summer 2011 is in someway similar to the summer of 1976 is mind boggling do you not think?

As for hard work. They are obviously unaware the differance between low pressure and high pressure.

3 weeks out of 4 June is going to be unsettled how can you possibly get that so wrong?..Like i said in my previous post. The summer forecast from Netweather as been realsed recently. And they had issues with predicting 3 weeks ahead how can you predict 3 months ahead?...

  15. I've followed long range forecasts on this site by the site itself and well respected members and many have given a very good idea of what the summers/winters have been like.

What would be a joke is stopping doing long range forecasts because 1 month went wrong!

SO netweather got the recent cold winter forecast correct.. By the law of averages there will be a cold winter now and then.So to me that shows if you predict a cold winter you have an high chance of getting it correct..Its pure guess work.. It could easily have been a wet and mild winter...

If you get a forecast so wrong for June like Netweather as, its time to stop predicting 3 month ahead. If you can-not predict 3/4 weeks ahead..

I'm no weather forecaster but i understand the weather in the UK..If i were to predict the following summer it will be a typical English summer.

We will get a good July ..It will be above average July with lots of sunshine.August will be similar but with more chances of tunderstorms..September is usuallly generaly nice month weatherwise..

I always check Accuweather for 15 days ahead and June on there looks very unsettled with no sign of any heatwave..
