Sky flooding with AcCas here @Robbie Garrett. NMM 5KM gives us around 1,000 CAPE. Two signs for me that give optimism. We have until 10-11 I reckon👍

About 2 miles west of me is VIRGA, can see the strobes bouncing light of it now as one aircraft just flew through it.     I just know we are fighting against a lot, unless we are talking nocturnal cooling after Sunset and the unsettled nature of the front(s)?  A bit like the heat storms in Africa at night?

Excellent, will dampen down any sceptics of Heathrow!

A good read on it's location etc here.

As the UK's highest ever temperature is recorded at Heathrow airport, why does it get so hot?

The blowtorch wind is what is most extraordinary about this heat. I have never felt that in this country. The wind is usually cooling.

Today has really been a heat lovers and extremist paradise

I remember Abu Dhabi in August was like that. 52C and hot wind.

Loving the UKMO going forwards especially further south . So many summers we have the weather completely break just in time for the kids to break up. Hopefully we can keep our streak going for a while yet . The rain will return big time within time and history tells us that , so I am not worried yet with the lack of rain. It even rained last night, Bonus 🫠

I think we are overdue a very wet period. Unless the jetstream is truly knackered.

  4. This makes a change, the amount of sleepless nights on already deprived sleepless nights I've had waiting for TSRA in a post-PLUME event is unreal.  A bonus is anything when it's not forecast.

Hard to believe, with 24 hours or thereabouts until the breakdown, models are STILL showing basically nothing thundery. I think there will be some surprises though, but not necessarily in my area, as the first front goes through here too early in the day.

My girlfriend Is stuck on the runway at BCN… about to takeoff and got word the runway has cracked at Luton.

    EGGW (Luton)

Runway unavailable 1425-1830 UTC due to overheating.

High delays after period of unavailability.

Heathrow also equalled its 37.9c record in July 2019, and narrowly missed it with 37.8c in July 2020.

I think Faversham still stands, though it was beaten by Cambridge in July 2019.

I did read an article on Faversham somewhere or have I got that wrong?

The way official temperature data is recorded is so poor. It's patchy, out of date and not easily accessible. In this day and age it should not be difficult to build a website with real time data like personal weather stations do on Wunderground.

In places like the LTCC Swanwick they get the live weather data from the London Airports, so it's all very possible.  Technology is there, it's just not public domain.

Why Shoreham airport cooler than rest of surrounding areas it’s only 26 Celsius was forecast 31 and the sun has come back out 🤔 Disappointing

Sea breeze? SW wind at 6 knots over a huge amount of sea.  Dew point is also 14*C so humidity is currently 48%

Heathrow's record is 37.9c. Kew has the London record with 38.1c, so still a while to go.

    Are you sure?

36.3 at Heathrow now leading the way

I hope Cambridge gets it, but Heathrow if it does smash the record will be because of the concrete/tarmac.

Cambridge is the Royal Botanic Gardens and not the airport? Both are at 36°c if so?
