  1. Rain did appear early on today and watered my veg nicely but stopped by 9.00. Remained grey throughout most of day but brightened enough to allow sun to pop out for a moment or two. Cool day at about 16/17C and cold enough tonight to need a jumper. Back to the autumnal weather that has dogged us for the last few weeks I'm afraid.
  2. Two (and a half) very decent days in a row here. Burnham-on+Sea looking very holiday-like with sun at about 22c and little wind, with people on holiday from Brum getting deserved relaxation. You could almost beleive it's summer! Rather overcast this evening but high cloud seems to have dissipated rather than grown despite warning of rain to come.
  3. Vast improvement from about 2.30 p.m. Quite a bit of stratus about but there has been more than two hours of sun, which combined with warmer air behind front has meant we're now up at about 21/22C.
  4. Cool at about 17C and wet here at present after a dry cloudy start. All forecasts point to an improvement over the next couple of hours - fingers crossed!
  5. I'd just like to give one positive remark about this summer - we have had at least one decent thunderstorm!
  6. Good day here today. Coastal Somerset up to about 18/19V but travelling inland late afternoon it was noticeably warmer and may have been up to about 21C/ Sun has stayed around with short interludes all day making this a better day than last Sunday. Two decent days this month so far - come on let's have some more!!!! Sunday currently shaping up to be the best - will it happen I ask myself?
  7. Summer 2011 started well here but has just steadily deteriorated to a dreadful August with just one decent sunny day so far, and remarkably low temperatures. For me there is a cumulative disappointment from the last four summers which have all failed to deliver a long decent warm (warm not hot!) spell. Last year was the best of a bad bunch with a bright if slightly cooler than average August. The cold winters have added to a general feeling of depression. Central and eastern England seem to have fared better than the south-west, and perhaps the major variance between localities is the greatest characteristic of this summer.
  8. Huge change in forecast for here this weekend. Until this afternoon told a pleasant wekend, just updated to RAIN SATURDAY AGHHHHHHHH
  9. Avoided worst of rain here and had steady light rain most of the day instead. Grey sky with little variance until sun appeared during setting. 12C all day rising to 13C by evening. Ghastly.
  10. Is there such a thing as a summer cold-wave? I've been having one for weeks now!
  11. Long grey day here with minimal temperatures with spotty rain well into early evening, then a pleasant sunset. Sunday's one-off fine day now a fading memory.
  12. Huge improvement on previous days in sunlight values if not temperatures. Sunny from the start, clouds started to join together about 11.00 a.m. but soon returned to broken cloud with increasing wide areas of blue. Strong unfiltered sunshine against a cool breeze allowed temps at a comfortable 19/20C. Very clear air with fine views and cloudscapes. Best Sunday for ages.
  13. I remember a summer in the mid 1980's which was similair to this one. I can't remember the exact year but I can recall the August Bank Holiday brought the only decent weather for about three months. I was wondering if anyone could recall the exact year and the weather patterns that produced the seemingly interminable grey cool days?
  14. Thick grey cloud with rain here earlier but showing signs of thinning now. Currently cool and fresh 16C.
  15. Watery sun early morning with some promise for the day but swamped by cloud - roughly 18C and very grey, rain for an hour or so at 3.00 pm and almost dark at times as cloud was so thick, with some brighter periods but no sun at all until about 7.30 pm when sun came out again for a reasonable evening! Not summer, though.
  16. rain tomorrow and weekend too RIP Summer 2011 you were nice that one day early July.
  17. Clouds threatened to break early morning and in Bridgwater it was quite warm (21C) at lunchtime with brightness and a little blue, but heavy clouds reappeared and since then it has been very dull. Headlights on cars dull! Rain began about 8.00 pm and it feels like October now.
  18. Mild and rather muggy day not a great deal of sun but quite bright until late afternoon, remaining warm until evening at about 20/21C. Curiously I'm less fixated about the weather than other things at present!
  19. Dry, mildly breezy very sunny day. Max approx 18C. Harvesters out this evening which has been much brighter than of late as little cloud, so feeling more like summer despite lower than average temperatures.
  20. Burnham-on-Sea very bracing this morning with strong winds gusting about but quite a bit of sunshine. 17C but cooler in wind at lunchtime. Moved inland to Taunton where breeze much less as you would expect and a pleasant 19C. Cloud increased evening but no rain.
  21. Very pleased to announce two seperate thunderstorm cells passed over nearby so althouth no lightening seen, we had several good rumbles of thunder. This has made up for pitifully cool afternoon for August. 7.30 p.m. only 12 degrees.
  22. Currently about 17C in mid-Somerset. Spots of rain but no major showers as yet but threatening to west. Polarising from grey matt of cloud to broken with growing patches of blue with sun close to appearing between heavy showers. Hopeful of a storm later - fingers crossed!
  23. Coming off better than forecast (again) here at about 18C with quite a bit if sun between broken cumulous with no rain since about 10.30 a.m. I'm not going to complain seeing how awful north-east looks to be.
  24. As someone who loves and waits for warm sunny days throughout the winter this thread is wonderful for me to let off steam otherwise my friends get it. So thankyou! I'm currently trying to pretend it's spring - it's certainly much more like mid-spring at present. Roll on summer 2012 which statistically should be a lot better. I'm off to hibernate with my summer S.A.D.
  25. Yes I must agree we're bursting here too with peas and first crop of plums ever. Sprouts coming on nicely. If I don't like the weather at least the veg does!
