  1. Sun has finally arrived at 6.30 - temperature was 13C for most of the afternoon.
  2. I'm fed up as I'm normally heading off to the Med at this time of year (where the weather is great) - but due to a variety of reasons I'm not doing so this year. I was in Holland over the weekend where Sunday was very sunny and bright - and I'm missing that already! Cold and grey - DOH!
  3. Currently registering 15C here but feeling cooler in breeze. Sun did come out earlier but cloud cover now about 95%. I picked the wrong week to take off. No rain at present, but much in the offing!
  4. Thinking more about it I tend to prefer the summer solstice as the start of summer. Warmth builds up in the northern hemisphere so despite the nights shortening there is a lag in the mean temperature. I'm sure that my memory has many more good Septembers than Junes.
  5. I was wondering what others feel about the date of June the 1st as the 'beginning' of summer? I for one have always experienced the period June 21st to September 20th as the 'real' summer. I'm sure that this was officially the case many years ago when I was growing up. Only recently have I noticed the met office and other official forecasters using June, July and August as summer. When did this start happening?
  6. At least an hour of warm sun unexpectedly arrived allowing temperature to reach about 16C, but further low cloud has now arrived with just the odd small break in it.
  7. A bit further west here - no sun as yet but temperature 14C on my dial.
  8. It seems I've been remarkably lucky where I live considering how dire other reports have been. Out of the wind yesterday in Glastonbury it actually got quite sticky, and during the majority of the day showers were very short and middling. From the Tor we saw the line of rain parked over the Mendips. By the looks of things we have been just on the right side of the line for most of the last two days. Street parties went on without interruption, and while cool the weather today has still been pleasant enough, and when the sun finally came out at about 4.30 it's warmed up a bit. Lovely cool evening now. Nice not to complain after the last two years where Somerset seemed to get the short straw so often.
  9. Very mild at present and the sun has come out between the clouds at times. Warm as well with my Dad's old trusty thermometer showing at about 20/21C - by the looks of things this won't continue..... and yet .... (hopeful).
  10. Middlingly high stratus currently cooling the evening down after a day of warm sun with intermittent areas of cloud which never amounted to much. Max about 24C. Fantastic.
  11. Wonderful. Perfect weather for me. Can't better it - apart from being stuck in at work all day until 5.30. Still - at least another day to go. Long may this last. Even better as the day is long, unlike last October when the day was short. Best day in years.
  12. Early rain but clouds soon departed. Sunny all day but with cold wind. Attempted to sit out early evening but driven in by chill .... (shivers)
  13. Change now apparent. Rain has stopped, areas of blue, higher cloud. Sun very strong when it comes out and temperatures have reached 14C. Blustery wind has sprung up.
  14. In the west country we seem to have had it slightly better than the east for the past few weeks. Although it cooled down after March we still kept a good deal of sun between the showers for a couple of weeks. The heavy rain fell in a short period - only the past two weeks have had prolonged damp periods without the sun. We seem to have one decent day about every fifth day (like yesterday) which is reducing the tedium and depression about the weather. Once again patterns are quite different around the country - only last year I was protesting against the cool grey skies when others were saying how nice and warm it was!
  15. Milder than yesterday but very grey and overcast with persistent light rain.
  16. Ye - unlike many I know I sleep like a log irrespective of how warm it is and really enjoy a warm night, with the sounds it brings and the windows open - the only irritation is gnats after rain.
  17. Cloud has been coming and going here - about 1.00 p.m. we reached about 14C but cloud increased an temperature dropped a little. Now clouds are bubbling up and a little rain has spotted but large areas of blue in between. Slow moving and currently about 11C.
  18. The South East and East did the best out of summers recently. In the West we had more than our fair share of cloud and greyness. I've posted elsewhere about this so won't repeat too much - but it would be good to have at least a couple of 'scorching' weeks this summer! Only October actually delivered last year.
  19. Quintessential Spring weather here. Lot's of sun overhead - cumulus full sky with some large cells moving slowly eastwards to the north but nothing here. I imagine it is quite stormy in North Somerset as a result but here it's been mild and dry, lighter wind than yesterday allowing the temperatures to rise higher than possibly expected - about 13 - 14C. Swallows have arrived - butterflys out and about. A fine day and I'm glad to say I have this week off.
  20. Light rain - not enough to dampen the ground as the wind is drying it out quite quickly. No sign of the promised deluge (yet). Cool but not unpleasant (11 degrees) - just been out for a walk and am quite dry!
  21. Fine, cool spring day here. Ridge of clouds to the north which seem to be spreading southwards but up until now a cloudless sky with just a hints of altostratus. Just seen a swallow.
  22. Fine day here with clear skies and a proper autumnal cold tinge to the air. Getting cold as night comes - expect a frost tonight.
  23. Fine dry mild autumn's day, more like late September than mid-October. Top about 18C but cooled down a little early afternoon when cloud increased. Very pleasant day. Autumn is trurning out to be far more enjoyable than summer was in these parts at least.
