  1. I planted some seeds last weekend, but not even bothering to water them as nothings warming up my greenhouse yet and so they won't germinate yet. It must come soon,
  2. Feeling like midwinter here. A little sleet but full snow up on the Mendips and Quantocks leading to a light covering. Only about 1 degree and the birds have gone quiet again after an initial burst of song earlier in the week.
  3. It's not that long since I had winters with no snow at all. Ice was the problem here this morning when cars were slipping about after rain fell on a frozen road, and we had several accidents in my locality. I personally would like snow mid-week so I get snowed in like I did for a day or so last year. The pub was open so I walked there and had a pint! The only drag is my employers make me take the day off as annual leave even if I can't possibly get there!!
  4. Fingers crossed this means it's gone further east and we get less as a result.
  5. Keeping fingers crossed here as heavy rain seems to be passing further north than initially thought (by looking at radar), but some still to come. We don't need any more here. As for Cornwall................
  6. Rain, rain and more rain, lighter in the morning, more steady now but not at vast volumes as during the week. But continued level of rain is causing some flooding to continue and areas already flooded are widening. Some roads impassable that don't normally flood. Thanks heaven there seems to be a change coming from midweek onwards.
  7. Dry here. Cold but calm. Radar shows some cells of heavy rain to the south but they seem to be decreasing in strength as they move north.
  8. Nothing major here - relatively heavier bursts amongst continual lighter rain and light breeze. Some quite deep puddles about but nothing much else for what seems like a normal wet early autumn day. Maybe things will change.
  9. Rain currently light but continuous with light breeze - certainly not major storm values here and perhaps a tad warmer than forecast at about 13C. I note weather warnings have moved further north and west and seem to be missing my area now.
  10. A fine day here with warmth quite pronounced in areas out of the breeze, but a cool feel when in it - about 16C. Incoming change of weather very obvious at present with thickening alto stratus and bands of lower cloud appearing from the west/south-west. Calm before the storm, but a very pleasant one.
  11. Central heating not on yet but gas fire is on due to early onset of autumn virus/cold; central heating went on twice late/mid July just to get house dried out after rain!
  12. It's been a beautiful end of summer's day here - a good deal of sun successfully combating a little chill in the air at about 18C. Perfect day for me recovering from a nasty virus - very much the silver lining of a cloud.
  13. A dry day here with quite a bit of cloud and a breeze but it reached about 19C and stayed there until early evening when the sun became stronger. A mild evening but turning cooler with the approach of the front being shown by thickening stratus.
  14. For me this has been the best summer overall since 2006, but the best of a bad bunch. For Somerset summer redeemed itself at the end of July and has been tolerable since then, while the last few years have just been long bland periods of disappointment and dreariness. And now it's about to break down for the bank holiday, I'm off to find summer again in Languedoc for a fortnight.
  15. I was wrong about the major change - after the shower passed we resumed with slightly cooler but still warm weather. Broken cloud.
  16. The change has just appeared here and the drop in temperature is notable after about six hours of warm sunshine, reaching about 24C which was preceded by the low mist. Sudden change from sultry to cool and fresh, and a rain cloud has just appeared. What a mix of a day!
  17. Looks like the front has moved further west than expected today. Clearing skies from 10.00 a.m. still a lot of cloud to the west but pretty much clear overhead bar high cirrus. Nice and warm at about 23 in the shade. My washing is drying on my line in an hour. August has been curious this year but certainly much better than the last six years.
  18. Lot's of cloud and rain in the morning and plenty of wind to blow my beans over. Warmed up a great deal in the afternoon with plenty of sun but the clouds rolled in again with a large amount of high cloud mixed with some blue and lots of showers. We currently seem to be right on the edge of the cloud layers with bluer skies to the south-east but lots of dark stuff to the west. A very interesting skyscape with plenty of different cloud types to observe - mild at about 17C.
  19. (Sigh) rain and no heat forecast for the west.
  20. A little warm sun appeared about 5.00 p.m. but after an hour or so the grey cloud returned with a little drizzle at times. Still very mild now.
  21. Despite the lack of long-term warm and dry weather summer is delivering a better second half since late July - at least in Somerset - than previous years. Several decent warm, dry days and nights - and TWO thunderstorms . Big improvement so far - let's hope it lasts.
  22. The morning started at 7.30 when I was roused by a thunderstorm cell passing by (yessss!!!! ). Since then some rain has threatened from passing dark cumuli, but there is still plenty of warmth and strong sunshine about as well making the day better than expected at about 21C presently.
  23. Has been very warm and sunny here today, and not with the strong breeze we had been warned about. Approx 24C this afternoon after a lot of cloud shrouded the sun but without ant affect on the temperature. Warm and sunny until about an hour ago when the change in the weather was very apparent looking to the west. Much thicker stratus is now coming through and dulling the evening - no decent sunset for us today. But how nice it was to get some proper August weather albeit for just two days - it's the best August has produced round here for years!
  24. It took a bit longer for the cloud to burn off nearer the coast and it was after lunch before some sun appeared, and there was quite a bit of high cloud despite the warmth. Sun really got going about 5.00 p.m. and it's still warm now at about 18C.
