  1. Dark clouds rolled in at about 6.00 p.m. preceded by a drop in temperature from 25C to 19C in about an hour. Much windier. Remarkably like autumn now - as it should be. It was lovely, though, and a real treat.
  2. No need to add anything bar apologies and comiserations to those in the NW. Perfect day here at the beach. All I had wanted throughout July and August but never got, so feels like a gift. Well set up for the winter now. Than You weather Gods.
  3. It's not rare for a late summer blast at this time, but I think we're experiencing the amazement as I for one had accepted summer was well over and was into the concept of Autumn. It feels warmer as it's been so cool. I'm not used to waarmth with such early dark evenings though - it's confusing to drive home in warmth and then it get's dark almost immediately!
  4. Lovely. This year has not been boring with the snow, and even some thunderstorms, but I would say that July and August were in their complete cool and cloudy mundanity.
  5. Remarkable to think today was the warmest day since the end of June. Pity I was stuck in a windowless office all day with air conditioning stuck on cold. Grrrrrr.
  6. Initial brightness and some blue gave way to mild but very dull weather. Rain finally appeared early evening. Very glum - and I go by the 21st being the first day of Autumn so the last day of summer carried on the tradition of a rubbish one.
  7. I've had a jumper on most nights now since the cold wave in August. Only had the heating on once in August - and that was to dry my washing when it wouldn't stop raining!
  8. Very close to Muchelney here so no need to give major details. Clouds now breaking up a little allowing some sun for a few seconds but still grey and threatening. When will I get my lawn mown?
  9. Heatwaves didn't get going the further west you went. I can only remember late June and early July as weather I would expect for a normal summer. Since then the only pleasant settled period of relatively warm, high pressure weather has been this week! I had to go abroad to find summer this year. There was some half-decent weather in August in the early days, but all seemed to appear on woking days. We were dogged by cloud and coolness here and it felt rare to go above 20C. As I said in other threads, I think that this year has been as bad if not worse than the last four years - with last year redeeming itself a bit with a bright dry if not warm August. Far too much cyclonic weather and no anti-cyclones for weeks on end does not a summer make in my eyes.
  10. Heavy showers have really got going now - periods of strong sunshine in between causing a very changeable day. One minute outside enjoying warmth then some very heavy falls of rain including - joy of joys - a few cllaps of thunder and some hail. Last hour jas been much greyer with showers seemingly joining together but blue sky still apparent nearby. This has been the best week for weather for months!!!!
  11. Great high pressure weather which has been sorely missed for the past months. Fine end to the day with the best sunset in ages. Can it last? No.
  12. Fine sunny day with very early sprinkling. This evening the sky was clear of clouds for the first time in weeks if not months. Great clear vistas across the moors this evening but with a chill in the air. Why couldn't we have had a weather system like this in July or August????
  13. One heavy shower this morning but short and sweet. Plenty of blue sky for second day running and wind dropped for a while until reinvogorating at about 3.00 p.m. About 17C but still strong sun allowing this to be one of the nicest in ages. At least September is doing what it's supposed to.
  14. Quite a nice day here despite early front passing over; much more sun than recently since late morning. Highest winds on the coast but much milder inland leading to a pleasant blustery day. September already seems sunnier than August in these parts.
  15. Sun continued until about 2.00 p.m. when heavy shower reduced temperature then overcast sky kept the day cool. Not as much sun as I had hoped - which is the story of this summer.
  16. One of the best morning starts in ages. Blustery with scudding cumulous and plenty of sun in between. Katia seems to have moved further north than expected so SW will be unlikely to get very high winds now. Scotland and NI still in for a blast, though so hope all will be OK there. Forecast one of the best I have seen for some time so expectations are high for a decent amount of mid-September sun here.
  17. No sun at all here despite patches of blue appearing (although we did get some sun yesterday). Not much brightness either meaning a muggy, rather stultifying day. Literally under the weather here as I now have a virus thanks to the wram damp weather which viruses love.
  18. Although we're not too far from Warminster here (about 20 - 30 miles) sunny intervals did not occur here and we have been dogged by mainly heavy dark clouds with little brightness. Very cool this evening - feeling like mid-Autumn now. Horrid.
  19. Deeply disappointing summer here after the promise of June. We have seemed to be stuck in a pattern of edges of low pressure, and even when high pressure arrived fleetingly in early August cloud continued stopping temperatures from rising. Summer ended here in July, really and since then it has felt like an extended Autumn. The only plus for Somerset is that we had some thunderstorms this year. A poor effort. 3/10
  20. Very dark shower clouds interspersed with small areas of blue allowing some sun through. About 16C when the sun does come out. At present the clouds seem to be breaking up a bit more, same as yesterday, allowing for a drier sunnier afternoon. I'm off to Norway for a week now to see if it's more like summer there!
  21. The 18th was actually colder than the 26th in the Bridgwater area.
  22. Reaching 16C so far today. Heavy showers in Taunton this a.m. Sun popped out for about ten minutes teasing us with warmth. Not so clear as further north, as we have had very little sun although clouds now breaking up more readily so hoping for a late improvement.
  23. Bridgwater also suffers from the close sea and todays continual rain added to the cold making us a 13C high as well. No sun despite forecast. Drier inland at home nr Somerton but no warmer at 5.30 pm, I am not going to complain as I am not sufferring the onset of a hurricane or a famine, so will count my luck stars instead (if the clouds part for a while).
  24. Not as good as forecasts would have us believe. Sun did appear but there was a good deal of low and high cloud; showers were localised meaning I got my lawn cut at last! Rain finally appeared at 7.00 pm but temperature had never really risen past 15 or 16C. More like a plaeasnt but coold spring day - which is nice in spring but not August!
  25. Good start and clearer skies remained until early afternoon allowing a pretty good rise in temperature to about 19/20C. Very heavy clouds appeared laters and at 5.30 Bridgwater had a cloudburst. Clouds reamined heavy and temperature dropped quickly and has remained low at about 14/15C. Localised rain as it did not appear near Somerton despite threatening to.
