  1. high stratus with varying degrees of thickness. Was warmer about an hour ago when it was thin enough to allow some diffuse sunshine. Temperatures now dropping as now duller and greyer overhead.
  2. Heavy showers around but also good long periods of sun. Little breeze so feeling warmer. A nice day!
  3. The west country didn't have the wash-out the north-west had, but we had lots of heavy cloud this year with many days becoming lacklustre. Some pleasant sunny days but in short supply and rarely consecutive, with any heat being very short-lived, sometimes just a few hours, like on 22nd August. While the south-east baked we could often be about 10 degrees cooler and stuck under sunless skies. June started cool but sunny with some promise, which seemed to be delivered at the beginning of July with the one stronger plume we experienced. Hope has diminished over the last two months and August has been a huge disappointment with only about four really sunny days, one of which was very cool. Lots of rain to end the month, and more to come it seems. Not one period of sustained high pressure which is very bad. Not as horrific as the 2007/12 stretch but still bad. 5 out of 10. Thank heaven I had two weeks of the continents heatwave in June.
  4. Much better today thanks to the plume pushing west a bit further than forecast. That it happened on a Saturday is even better. Grateful for some decent weather even if just a few hours.
  5. As hoped a small thunderstorm cell has just passed over us. First in many a month. Today is delivering in microcosm what I like in a summer.
  6. Dry start with broken low cloud and warmth leading on to a few hours of summer sun and warmth. Roughly 24c at best. Amazing how different it is to the west of the front! High cloud now moving in from the south with a breeze introducing the impending low coming up from France. It was nice while it lasted - now hopeful for some thunder.
  7. Very dull day with mat of low dark cloud and periods of drizzle. One brief period of strong sun for roughly an hour at about noon raising temperature to about 22c. Cloud now returned and dull with a recent shower.
  8. Initial sun to start the day, thick cloud came in at 9.00 and light rain with heavy periods for much of the day ending at about 5.00 p.m. Full cloud cover has continued all evening. Not feeling cold though at about 17C.
  9. Four days on the trot of relatively decent weather from Saturday to Tuesday, which is unusual round these parts. Looking at the current forecasts I could weep as it's rain and cloud for the foreseeable future. I'm off to join the Autumn 2015 thread.
  10. Much more cloud further inland Somerset. Remaining bright and warm 22 though despite relative paucity of sun.
  11. I'm grumpy because for some years I got used to decent spells of warm sunny weather where I could plan to swim in the sea, camp, take long walks etc. now we just get a handful of decent days and it feels like my summer lifestyle had changed. I'm sorry for those in the north west where they're not even getting the mediocre summer we're getting.
  12. Lovely day to be stuck in the office
  13. It's the south EAST that's getting the decent summer. In the SW we're getting the odd decent day here and there but we're often under the edge of the low pressure systems cycling up the west coasts leading to tepid days with little sun and a good deal of dark cloud. Several days I've had to drive with sidelights on as it has been so dull.
  14. Vast improvement in weather in mid-Somerset - best day for over a fortnight. And on a Sunday too! Already clouding over for the evening with a vaguely better forecast than previously for next week but not hopeful - all those lows coming along do not help. Remarkably different summers from area to area, I'm unsure I've ever seen such a variety of experiences.
  15. Fine summers day with plenty of sunshine 23° C. Hoping for more days like this across the whole UK for all of us.
  16. Quite dark periods here with temperatures struggling past 17. The front is over us currently with the odd brighter period but also the odd spot of rain from the larger clouds. No sun to speak of ... Further south clearer skies can be seen in the distance. Warmth hopefully returns tomorrow. Fire on last night!!
  17. It's been two weeks since a warm summer's day with a balmy evening in these parts. Regretfully it would seem the jet stream has moved further south over the past few years on average. Although there'll be some variations it seems likely our summers will be different from the ones we use to know, with more mixed conditions. I hope I'm wrong.
  18. Had the fire on for a while on Friday. On Saturday we had a BBQ and ended up all huddled around the ashes.
  19. I'm freezing and I'm wearing jumpers again. Only smokers standing outside pubs here.
  20. One major shower but plenty of sun much of the day taking the edge off the cooler air. This evening has been the coolest in some time with definite drop in temperature. More like I'd expect mid-May than July. Not looking forward to Friday!
  21. Large cloud masses with areas of blue in between later in day, warmish but more humid than hot. No heatwave here.
  22. Further south we get the benefit of the odd plume but the last one only stayed with us a matter of hours! Again the SE gets the best of the warm weather. SW has fared better than previous summers but still not great.
  23. Cooler this afternoon with thicker high stratus developing blotting out sun.
  24. Although warmer than previous years July has been somewhat of a disappointment in my area due to loads of cloudy days. Also we have been missed by most of the thunderstorms.
