  1. Looks like another mainly forgetful month :-/ Not happy! Let's hope their is light at the close of the month.
  2. No frost here tonight, but still a chilly one! Perhaps the frosts this week may just mark one of the last until Autumn, although June frosts are not unheard of.
  3. I suppose that month does have some good bits, including some intense blackberry picking (or do the blackberries come out more like September time?) but as you say, there are episodes in August which show Summer fading .... I suppose it's a bit like having snow in March ... it isn't really counting towards anything and it's the thought that in a few weeks the warmth will be gone for another year.
  4. There were wintry showers on Saddleworth moor this morning when I walked up there. Sunshine and cloud with showers now though, 9'C
  5. No one really needs light after 8:30pm so August is the time were it is noticed, not June. Despite 'shorter' days after June 21st, the day only gets shorter by about an hour if that after the first month (until end of July). It's far too early to be bothered about losing the light yet so calm down! More unfortunate news half related though, plans to abolish the infamous GMT and stay on constant GMT+1 (BST) all year round have been scrapped for some reason and therefore we will still have to rewind our clocks by one hour in October, despite the fact it was expected to be abolished last year.
  6. "With winds mainly from the west or northwest, temperatures will probably be average or a little below for the time of year but there is a chance of some warmer spells, most likely in the south of the UK." Good to hear this ... the 'chance of some warmer spells to the south' might be the early foundations to the possible late May/June warmth.
  7. August is perhaps being a bit early though for your description ... late September is when your description of the countryside comes into full swing. August is Summer ... no question about it ... you wouldn't say that you can see the early warnings that Spring is arriving when it's January.
  8. Rain arrived in the evening, 5 hours late (met office forecast the rain to start at 1). Still pouring it down now though ...
  9. If anything we're in for an around average May by the looks of things; a touch below is of course plausible though ... If it's going to be very cold the models would have told us that by now
  10. I believe 8.5'C was recorded in 1698 (This is since 1660). Can't find any colder since then
  11. Pretty calm and cool here tonight, not a lot of rain forecast for me until at least Sunday but then again no nothing of sunshine either ... just overcast. I'm expecting quite a few showers though. Temperatures massively struggling, mid double figures onwards are out of sight ... surprised if 10'c will be reached
  12. Sunshine and clouds here today but a little chilly outside. A more overcast scenario and rain expected going into the night
  13. Yeah, unusual stuff - usually when there is a drought somewhere in the UK in means most of the UK is suffering from largely below average rainfall - but not in the North so it seems.
  14. Still a little chill in the air despite the mild - but its overcast with no rain now. Lets hope the mild really does show up on Thursday.
  15. 10'c is VERY mild? It's only a couple of degrees above average! Anyway let's see what happens
  16. I very rainy night - lets hope the loud drops don't awaken me!
  17. Not the best of days here in the North West today, looks like similar stuff all week until the weekend.
  18. A frost tomorrow morning for most providing there is clear skies which will be nice A very mild but wet week looks like the agenda this week, let's hope there isn't too much rain Nights turn frosty again from Sunday
  19. Had some good ones in 2010 on 17th May 2010 (early morning - woke everyone up!) and one around the 15th July which was a very big one
  20. 6.9'C An average or warm start quickly leading to a touch cooler conditions with drier and more settled conditions with a wintry theme evident A generally average 10-20th with a mix of cooler and warmer days with average rainfall with beautiful Spring conditions possible although perhaps some cooler days generating a wintry feel An overall average - mild end.
  21. Hail shower here in Saddleworth at 05:23pm. Lasted 5 minutes Winds picking up, temperatures dropping.
  22. Very cold up at the tops' ... the showers were wintry on the moors but it's bright sunshine again now
  23. Looks like it was taken from the Met Office's monthly reviews
