Pretty much raining here
-
well well only 1.5c here now and precip approaching on NW radar, could we have snow seems likely?
at the dew point being -2c seems likely
-
Lovely rain in Portsmouth can't wait til we move hopefully won't be long
a slight snizzle on the iow...the thing that worrys me is that the clouds seem to be encroaching from the south off the channel...gulp...temp is 3.8 and dew point -1.8
Has not reached southampton yet?
-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ BBC forecast much better for solent area shows snow right across our area, even IOW
Really?
I just put in a similar postcode to you and it says Rain?????
-
Think we should all conclude that were not going to get any snow, especially closer to the channel. The warmth from this is making the temperatures rise rather then decrease. Not very likely for snow on the IOW.. If there is a shift west later it could be interesting.
-
My current assessment of the situation is that right now, the heaviest precipitation is out towards the North and West of the UK which is good.
As per my post earlier, the slower this moves in the better as colder air will come in from the North and East all slowly sinking South.
The heaviest precipitation needs to arrive between midnight and breakfast time tomorrow and I'm speaking for everyone here.
I'm hoping that more analysis will be forthcoming from the more respected members soon.
Snowy Thanks

That sounds great although in the southern area (hampshire) says the temperature will increase over night.. Met Office & Netweather?
-
Met Office is predicting the temperatures to stay at 2c all evening? They were incorrect last night hope there wrong again
-
Give it a couple of hours and they will start dropping dramatically, also its beneficial if its stalled over exeter.
-
Why does the drew point dramatically change for the south this evening?
-
How small we talking snow drift?
-
Sounds excellent with another shift west. Another one to finish the day would be perfect.
-
Not looking good for Hampshire. Especially Havant area
-
. Met office says snow.sorry pal I'm sticking with the met office :-)
You been saying that all day, and all day its said rain.. Recommend having a look at their website
-
No quite the opposte
So another shift to the west could see most of the south inclusive of Hampshire deep in snow?
-
Aren't the latest precipitation charts showing that it will miss most of south an some of south east?
-
Take it everybody has given up on the current models / forecast for snow then?
-
I would say yes. Judging by the surface temps and the amount possible it could settle, but being london, Im not sure it will last too long. The centre of town generally gets a few degrees warmer than the outer subs.....
Haven't got no chance in the Portsmouth area then
-
Why has Met Office still predicting rain??
Also Netweather forecast is only 50% chance of snow in the Havant area which is 35Metres from sea level?
-
Are we confident about south coast snow forecast?
-
Whats your opinion of Portsmouth on the south coast?
Models show some snow is pontentially there??
-
Absolutely nothing!.
No need to panic yet then haha,
What made you come to this conclusion as the models are all over the place?
-
Bar a minor miracle overnight it's almost certain that Jan 2012 will be only the second since I began keeping records in 1963 with no lying snow here at 0900, the other being 1989. It was a case of so near yet so far as the brief snowfall at the end of last week, which gave the Buxton area a centimetre or two, fizzled out to just 10 minutes of quite light snow by the time it staggered the 18 miles south to reach here.
I live in hope that the trend doesn't continue into February as, in the last 50 years, there has never been a February with no lying snow at 0900; the nearest approach was in 1998 which had just 1 day, on the 28th.
Why, whats happened in the past few hours?
-
Just saw a Sky weather report and its findings show that the precipitation will fade away before it hits the UK. ??
-
Haha sorry guys haven't only been following it briefly..
Where has this precipitation come from?

Just clarifying my opinion. Because of wind direction, ECM chart and dew point indicate a colder temperature
