Temperature is not looking good for Tuesday according to the metoffice 5c apparently
-
Fingers crossed for the front to shift left so more of us can get some more snow cover.
-
How far do we think the front is going to get then??
-
Well the south coast snow shield failed today?
Heavy snow this morning, though it did turn sleety in lighter bursts & ended up raining this afternoon. Only had about 1inch & because of proximity to the sea it was quite slushy wet snow that has already been melting, but first snow here for 2 years so very happy
Temperature is now 2.1C with a dew point of 1.2C & can hear a steady drip drip.
Im just in Havant and we never had rain or sleet. Alot of snow, surprising what a few miles makes.
-
Are they predicting it stalls because apparently met office says its snowing till late tonight?
-
Confused to why snow will turn to rain on the south coast tomorrow night as predicted by the imet office. The 850hp and 500 all look the same conditions as tomorrow day?
The winds will be easterly also??
Anybody shed and light?
-
Sorry guys nobody answered my question earlier
Why is rain predicted tomorrow eveningstraight after the snow?
-
Why does it dramatically change after 6pm?
-
-
A lot of discussion about it stalling can anybody shine any light on this?
-
Chances of snow on Dartmoor on Friday??
Met office forecast
-
Also met office have amended mine to sleet most of Friday rather than snow.
-
isn't the GFS run left by itself at the moment with the others backing the UKMO?
-
Well moving on to Sunday it hits 7c the met office say. WOW, big change.
-
GM Modifications continue with rain & showers by end Fri through weekend. Heavy snow Midlands etc. Fri could see many hours of snow for anywhere away from far SW and environs. Horrendous forecast to get right at this juncture.
Got to agree, met office still predicting sleet / rain for Saturday morning in my area.
-
And......met office just changed iow from light snow to heavy snow fri pm wooooo surely this can't go the way of the pear now?!
You have heavy snow, but i have light snow here in Portsmouth.. Confusion lol

Does anyone know how north Hampshire is placed with regards to snow. Basingstoke and Alton area? I'm confused.

Ok, here's Dorset 12z ensembles from yesterday, just to hopefully set your mind at rest. Firstly the T850s.
Now the suggested minimums moving on through time, from the rather unreliable GFS 6z.
When looking at that final chart in isolation, I would suggest you enjoy Tuesday through Thursday minimums as the GFS 6z thereafter, suggests that the atlantic will return.
GFS has not been the most reliable this winter has it. ECM and UKMO have been more reliable with GFS back tracking.

Yes the trend does seem to be hinting at a midlands north snow event for Friday now. But things will likely chop and change.
Think it's mainly because the 850hp are not cold enough from midlands southwards?
-
One thing that bothers me about Friday now and is putting doubt into my mind is the fact the 528DAM never makes it across the South West. In fact, we end up nearer the 546DAM. The UKMO has the 528DAM over Hampshire midnight Friday;
The GFS has it over nowhere;
I think this is going to be needed a look in much further detail nearer the time.
What's the importance of a dam line?

Sleeting now in Bedhampton. Fun whilst it lasted
Actually it's starting to get hard again, although cant lay because ground is too wet.
-
Precipitation is breaking up now it has got to my area (Hampshire)
-
Unless anything dramatic happens tonight I wont be seeing snow until later on in the week
Im shocked how much of the country hs turned into rain, why is this?
