Got home to heavy snow and it's white , a bit confusing the latest euro4 , every single model that's come out has and continues to be different m definately a now casting event . Nobody really knows what to expect , a lot of sleet in the southwest that meant to be rain , the low pressure centre never makes it further east than East Wales by the looks of things with 850's no lower than -3 for all , due points look the risky one but it's definately got the potential to drop lots egg on faces !
Hardly shocking your 213metres above sea level pahaha
-
5c and raining here, hardly surprising.
Met Office got it spot on again unfortunately..
-
For anyone curious about their height above sea level, here's a great site to find out. It's all OS maps so should be accurate.
Do you just type in your postcode?

On the Costa del South Coast:
Temp: 3.8c (Actually falling)
DP 0.9c
Wind ESE 10mph
After a beautiful Sunny, white frosty start, all is now grey and cold.
EDIT: Temp 3.7 now... Think I left my freezer open again.
You sure?
It's says 5 degrees on my car and internet

I am just quoting a professional forecaster, please dont shoot the messenger!
Fromey
Haha ok,
The models have found a trend for the weekend although they have been flipping all over the place.
-
recent post by Ian f, just saying return of westerlies returning over the weekend, transition looks messy, cold spell what cold spell!!
We cant even predict the 48 - 60 hours out at the moment... I wouldn't look to far ahead.

Interesting further out in to Feb is this bad boy comes off that is toasty.
Meanwhile back at the ranch,a snowy week for some begins
100% better than last winter.
Why would that be?
Northern part still got snow, where as southern areas still had rain.

A very cold Wintry outlook over the coming days, With bands of Snow/showers effecting most parts of the UK and severe overnight Frosts. There is lot's of uncertainty after 144hr, I expect more chopping and changing over the coming days as the Models get to grips and start to balance.. This weekend will be a shock to the system for some, As bitter cold air ushers in and sinks South from the N/W turning Northerly by Monday with -10 uppers over the North and -5/6/7 850's over a large swathe of the UK. By Tue/Wed a weak front pushes in giving some decent snowfall accumulations for the Midlands and Northern Britain. Winter has finally arrived
Isn't this a typical winter experience? Especially for the northern part of the UK
Nothing special, nothing lost.

Met Office do their forecast update at 11am, we will see what that brings.
Heads down for the GFS forecast.

I find it amazing how our country is so small that we can never get a country wide event! In the USA its such a different story, impressive cold areas that would cover most of NW Europe!
I think I might move there. It is exceptionally impressive.
-
You are right on the south coast.
Of course..

To be honest we have the major effects coming into place, although there isn't much cold air to dig into at the moment at 850hpa.

The 18z puts high pressure over the UK at 228h FI

Morning all wot is it like in Hampshire and Bournemouth this morning
Where I am in Hampshire there is nothing fantastic. You wouldn't be able to tell if it snowed last night or not.
-
Is that precipitation moving north east do we think?
-
I wouldn't be too sure they are correct on that liam. Look at the radar.
That band of snow in the Channel has just started to move more northward. At least it seems so to me. If that northward movement continues then I can see more areas couldl get snow again I reckon. Someone said today would be now-casting. How true that has proved to be.
Probably know within the next hour then.
-
Just seen met office have changed their forecast. Apparently the snow will stop here in couple of hours and won't extend to 3-6am tomorrow morning.

Weird, spoke to someone who lives in Havant today who said it was a white out. I guess it depends what your definition of a white out is!
Haha, is certainly not a white out.
-
Not much of an event in Southampton. Really odd, cause I thought we were in prime position for it.
With Havant and the IOW doing well out of this, I'm kind of confused why Southampton has nothing if I'm honest. We can't be too far inland, surely ? As with alot of events usually we're always too near the coast to see real snow....so how irritating is it that when the South does get real snow, we're not close enough to the coast to get it. Looks like we're just stuck in the middle of a weather wilderness! The only weather we get here on a consistent basis is light drizzle.
Woke up with the smallest of dustings, but a bit boring if I'm honest!
Someone raise my spirits..please!
Havant didn't do well. Has not laid on roads or pavements.

Never thought I wouldn't be happy to be under a Thames Streamer but it is just preventing the Channel Low from making landfall here. Sounds like Pompey are just getting clipped by the northern edge of it? Maybe it will pivot enough for me to have some flakes worthy of working at home cos I'm feeling ever so slightly guilty....
Not really unfortunately.
