  1. Gosh it's extremely wet and windy here! My fence panels have blown down!
  2. Wow I don't remember the 6th april 2008 being that extreme http://hw.nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.png
  3. 13c two days before december....boooooorrrrrrrrrinnnnnnnngggg!!!!! Very windy with recurring rain.
  4. Sound like we may see a bit of wintry weather just before Christmas!
  5. I had gotten the impression that the GP was average-mild? I think that will be the case but with some moderation at times with both some cold and mild spells.
  6. I am having trouble creating a blog. Whenever I click "Add Entry" it doesn't load. It just stays on the page as if I never clicked anything. Any help?
  7. Same here, the forecast was for my city to drop to 1-2C overnight but it only got down to 3C maybe only 4C. Rather disappointing. No frost although quite cold dew.
  8. Although Rampling has predicted a rather mild December, increasing cold January and February being potentially the coldest month, and I do have much respect for this forecast and it's scientific interpretations, I think December will be full of both cold and mild interludes. Looking at some 10-15 day forecast sites, there seems to be an indication of a cold interlude around the 5-7th December with some minor snowfall in northern areas but maybe as far down as the midlands, although the period around 10-12th December looks rather mild. However, there is obviously chance for these signs to change more closer to these dates, especially the latter period I mentioned. Although this may be hard to believe, I think there will be some small flurries on Thursday evening in some places as it looks quite cold and cloudy. Also, as we further approach the period of the 15-20th we will see how it looks for Mark Vogan's prediction that the real cold will arrive then.
  9. Has anyone else noticed that in early Spring, it can get rather balmy on sunny days but when this happens, the temperature often drops heavily over night (and sometimes we get a frost). Meanwhile, in late Autumn, the temperature sometimes doesn't drop much overnight and the sun has little impact during the day.
  10. Yeah I remember the 6th April. It snowed loads in Spring before that year too but in recent years we haven't had much.
  11. In regards to the talk about March replacing December as a winter month, many have started assuming November is a winter month after last years widespread snowfall, although it definitely isn't in my opinion. And yes it would seem rather silly after cold December 2010.
  12. When it snowed in mid-June 2011, was that on or around the 12th June as that day was pretty cool (although not to the point that it snowed) where I live. Also, can you provide a link? Also, my grandmother remembers the snow you mentioned in June 1975, she reckons a week later it was scorching, people were sunbathing with snow still on the ground!
  13. Snowfall well into May? That would be a very rare character, I don't believe in recent history there has been any snowfall of even little significance in the UK, except maybe in the peak of the Highlands. I'm with you that there is definately a link between mild late autumn-early winter and cold late winter-early spring though.
  14. 5C here in Leicester. Although forecast for now was like 3 or 4C...
  15. It would be more exciting in early March than late obviously...by late March it can get rather balmy on sunny days. I think if we place a "big freeze" like late November/early December 2010 in late January/early February, the sun has pretty much the same strength but I think it could be potentially worse in late January/early February due to the ocean being cold.
  16. I think a lot of British people who don't have an general interest in weather do underestimate the snow potential in February, March and even April. I think a lot of people think February is early Spring although I think even March is late winter.
  17. In the last couple of decades, with the exception of the winters 2009/10 and 2010/11, the UK has generally had snowfall late in the winter season, often in early spring, rather than the December-January period. We had a lot of snowy occasions from late February to early April a lot of the time. Examples: -Probably the best example was winter 2004/5. Hardly any snow for many parts of the UK in December or January, widespread in late February/early March. -Snow for many in February and March 2007. -Most parts of the UK received very little snowfall in December 2007 or January 2008 but snowed fairly widespread in March and April. -February 2009 sort of but that came early in the month. -Even though there was lots of snow in December 2009 and January 2010, there was some particularly in Scotland in late march and the 1st day of April with some accidents. Why is this?
  18. It can happen like this in early March too.
  19. I think we can actually measure the 'sun strength' for the different months in UV Index. Does any one know what sort of UV Index it is in February and November, etc?
  20. Whenever I look at any online weather station, if the temperature is 9C (48F) or less, the 'wind chill'/feel like temperature is always something less like 6C. However, if it is 10C (50F) or more, the feel like temperature is ALWAYS the same as the real temperature. Why is this? E.g. if the temperature is 10C, it says it feels like 10C also. Then if the temp drops to 9C the wind chill will go down to 6C or something.
  21. Where I am, It was cloudy and mild overnight at 12-13c, but cleared up as the sun rose and got colder as the day went on! It's 9C now and very windy. The forecast is for temperatures to drop overnight so maybe a frost?
  22. In the Midlands, The sun does tend to heat us up to about 5C during a cold spell, although as it's clear it can bring a pretty chilly feel overnight. However this wasn't the case in Feb 2009, as we pretty much had continuous snow at some point every day from 1Feb through 13Feb, and I had three days at home from college in that period. They were unprepared as they were expecting snow earlier in December or January. Towards the end of February, the sun does tend to heat us up to double figures assuming it's regular February air.
  23. Does sleet count for the last time it snowed where each of us are? Because where I live, some very fine sleet fell on the morning of 20th November a week ago tomorrow. Looks like I won't be in the club if sleet counts. If it concerns just snow, 21st February.
  24. For Leicester, in my lifetime: which date/month is the latest that your location has ever received? - April which date/month on average has the last snowfall? - March which date/month is the earliest that your location has ever received? - November which date/month on average has the first snowfall? - December which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow lying? - December which month is the snowiest when it comes to snow falling? - February which month is your snowiest (lying and falling, and depth) in your records? - December 2010
  25. I second the bit about the high dew point making snow melt more quickly. It can often snow at 3C with a low dewpoint below freezing with low humidity levels. It can also potentially rain at -1C with humidity close to 100% and a high dew point. E.g. it is snowing at 3C with 70% humidity...humidity rises to 80% and the dew point is also now higher, it's now sleeting...humidity rises to 90%, the dew point has risen and rain is falling.
