  1. Sunspot 786 is shovelling out M class flares like there is no tomorrow. Unfortunately it's probably too far out on the western limb of the Sun to cause Earth directed disturbances. (Images credit spaceweather.com)
  2. They would have to be really thick rose branches to cut with a chain saw! They'd go flying everywhere! A lot of plants benefit from being cut back hard. I'm a bit of wuss as I'm frightend of killing the things off whereas Mrs Kar always gives her clematis a good seeing to and its blooming nicely again this summer.
  3. Things are still active up there with a G2 storm still in progress. KP index has risen to 6 and Bz still -10 south. Probably not enough for me but you guys up north might be in with a bit of a shout. From spacew.com Updated: 03:35 UTC 10 July (11:35 pm EDT, 09 July) Geomagnetic and Auroral Activity Update A minor coronal mass ejection has impacted the Earth and is producing periods of enhanced geomagnetic and high-latitude auroral activity. Periods of minor auroral storming are possible tonight, which may provide middle latitudes with an opportunity to observe sporadic periods of activity. A middle latitude auroral activity watch is active. At least one other CME disturbance (as well as a coronal hole based disturance) are expected during the next 72 hours, which should keep activity at fairly active levels through 11 and 12 July. Solar Activity Update M-class flare activity remains likely during the next 24 to 72 hours. There is also a slight chance of a major flare.
  4. Solar activity intensified on July 7th with an M4-class explosion near fast-changing sunspot 786. The blast hurled a faint coronal mass ejection toward Earth, which could spark a mild geomagnetic storm when it arrives on July 9th or 10th. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras. Because the explosion only caused a faint coronal mass ejection, mid-latitudes like most of the UK (except Northern Scotland) are unlikely to see any major activity. Always worth a look low on the Northern horizon though if activity starts especially at your location. Weather permitting of course!
  5. Plenty of CG activity about over the Clee Hills area of Shropshire and drifting NE towards Telford area.
  6. Another few claps of thunder and heavy rain here in Reading.
  7. Can confirm that Matt. 11:45 Storm tracked NW from Tilehurst/Caversham direction I would think. Quiet now. (Matt ...and you said nothing ever happens in Reading! )
  8. Dont want to double post so here is my report for my travels this morning. http://www.net-weather.co.uk/forum/index.p...ndpost&p=367784
  9. Storms - Sunday 19 June 2005 - South Staffs/Shrops These clouds were growing quickly from this, at 16:26 (looking SW towards the Clee Hills). To this, at 18:00 (looking NW towards The Wrekin)

  11. No prob Paul. Whilst you're in that neck of the woods you might want to check out the Euro Lightning, EUCLID, Latest Strikes link. I get a dead link there as well. This works though. http://www.meteorage.fr/euclid/euclid_last_lightnings.gif
  12. Not sure if anyone is aware of this, but the Lightning Detector Explained link doesn't work for me on the bottom of the UK Live Lightning page. http://www.net-weather.co.uk/Charts_Data/U..._explained.html
  13. Thanks for the offer of the road kill. (I rather like rabbit actually, preferably casseroled.) Is it true that if you cause the road kill it is illegal for you to pick up the victim i.e. rabbit, pheasant or deer (god forbid) etc. but the car behind you can? Heard that somewhere but not sure if its true or not.
  14. Thanks for the advice Scribbler. I wont be having Mole Steaks on the BBQ this weekend then. If I can arrange for the lawn to be flooded for 3 months in the year I will certainly have some serious problems, other than moles, to worry about!
  15. That's one of his classics... that and the nutter on the bus!
  16. And I love them too... bless! OON. I don't care too much about the lawns perfection either having not edged it for the last 4 years. It's the fact that there is 3 tonne less soil under it now than there used to be that worries me. I fear the house might subside at this rate!
  17. I guess you're right Roo. But we are surrounded on all sides by fields and meadows and the little blighters still choose to excavate our garden. So you have a mole Mrs M... want any more?
  18. I didnt know that? I think I have a population hotspot in my garden!
  19. The dogs will eat most things they dig up, voles, mice, shrews etc. but for some reason they wont eat a mole. I wonder if they have something in their fur?
  20. I got a couple of those Mole Chaser things from Maplins. Poke them into the ground and they gives off low frequency vibrations. They just party to it!
  21. Is that like those mushroom circles or just a coincidence? I like moles. I've almost got enough for a pair of moleskin trousers! Seriously it's having to remove a barrow load of soil each week before I can even start to mow the lawn that bugs me. Also, I have lost some trees and shrubs because they have undermined the root systems. The dogs have caught some but they cause more damage by digging a crater in the lawn to get at them! Edit: Flagpole, my Brother is the spitting image af Jasper Carrot (and talks like him). Seany. I cant get a dermatologist small enough to fit down the holes.
  22. Daisies and moss in my lawn. I can live with them but Moles are the bain of my life at the moment. Tried everything except a 12 Bore but to no great avail.
  23. Mondy, that post threw me as well at first till I realised the quote is the latest forecast not a quote from an earlier post! TreizeVents, lets hope there is some activity on the 17th. I suspect if there is any activity it may not be strong enough to see in our twilight skies.
