Amazing isnt it, a lot of us have been crying out for a prolonged easterly, for a few years now.
So we finally get one and even though its bitterly cold for the time of year, its not conducive to any heavy, widespread snowfall.
If the timing of this easterly had been similar to the late winter event of 2005, theres no doubt in my mind uppers would've been colder and snowfall more widespread and substantial than that year.
Regards,
Tom.
Exactly my thinking Tom. We seek the holy grail. We get it and the SE gets jack all. ....so frustrating.

I see the usual suspects on the ukmo radar are getting snow or snow showers at the moment. Why is this? and the same areas are nearer to the high pressure block.u couldnt make it up.......

No comment on the UKMO

520 Thickness squeezing into the SE-
For what is essentially the 1st of April!!
S
Superb chart Steve but no good if it dont produce the convective goodies. Like this current spell for us in the SE. Would like heavy snow now which would settle no problem....

Radar has light shower over my area but nothing is getting to the ground. ..upper air must be very dry either that or radar is wrong. location aylesbury
-
Hows that work then the SE is closest to the lower dewpoints being advected from the near continent.
-
Alexis no worries about snow showers today. Uppers are ok and we are entering the time of year when temps of 8 degrees can produce snow. The temps simply fall that fast when showers start. Only downside is anything that sticks will fast melt in the gaining strength of the sun.
-
Well blow me down.its actually snowing here in aylesbury.
-
As expected the midlands streamer dies out as it approached this area. Aylesbury. This really is comedy at its finest. Another highly frustrating cold spell around here.
-
Any chance for us in high Wycombe. Fed up now :-(
You and me both Katie. Here in Aylesbury once again in the god damned dry zone.
-
Great reading folks.does beg the question. Would we of been looking at a repeat of jan 87 had this been 6 weeks ago. ..all assuming it comes off
-
I have had flakes of snow here in aylesbury this morning. Confirmed by a friend who drove through whitchurch just outside aylesbury where it was moderately falling. ..shocked.. this wasnt forecast
-
Just a quick one. Sleet hitting the window about 15 mins ago. With snowflakes observed. Temp +1.3 here in aylesbury. Bucks.

How come the likes of birmingham are doing so well. You cant get much further inland.
-
Well im one for a northern blocking pattern for the next 6 weeks then it can chuff off and be replaced by southern blocking from mid April right through till September. I dont think i can stomach a 7th crap Summer in a row.

It always seems to snow on my sons birthday 4th march.
-
Sorry Vince what's your point you're trying to make here? ^^
Will reply later some sort of power outage happened when i posted a reply. .on dial up speed and hacked right off.

This is post of the season for me, and why they do it has got more of an underlying reasoning behind it IMO.....at last....well done Carinthian, also notice how there is over emphasis on norm temps as almost springlike!
Models show a bitterly cold outlook, nothing changed for me its all playing out before us.....although SE and S is favourewd currently for snow initially.
Also I maintain that the block will retrogress to prolong the cold thrust too, some models showing that too

Still 10% as they cited yesterday. But it's a week away: not worth fretting over at this range. Re the later trend period and waning of the block, it'll be the DECIDER products reinforcing this notion.
Here's hoping...!
Ian from that last quote i assume your not a fan of proper winter weather then?
-
Hope the met office and Ian are wrong and we get the severest spell since 2010.lol. Fancy posh words dont cut it with me.
-
Same here lollypop for a speedy recovery.and hope to see JP back here very soon. Along with himself and a few others who post in here who i much respect for
-
Sleet falling here.temp 2.7 aylesbury. Bucks

Psst.dont tell anyone but the 0Z NAE is a corker for our area
-
Quick question. How comes in the USA they are talking mega amounts of snow. Yet our low pressures give a hell of a lot less. Is it to do with warmer seas around the Boston area? see 48 years old and still learning......

Superb mate.here north west of London clear and dry for the moment.wonder if mother natures alarm clock will wake me around 6am.lol.

I have the exact facts somewhere from Retron on two. I think you start getting sunburn when the sun exceeds 30 degrees off the horizon. so mid october to mid feb in the UK = no tan
