Looks like things have been downgraded a bit forecasting sleet all day now instead. Wonder whether the BBC think the dewpoints aren't cold enough for snow as they are still forecasting air temps to be 1 degrees which should be cool enough which might suggest the upper air temps are not as cold as they thought they might be as @freeze for allis saying. But there is still time for things to change though there is still potential for Saturday and Sunday as well so it's not game over. Look on the bright side at least it isn't mild, dull and drizzly and it will at least feel seasonal. Also could be that the colder air is taking longer than expected to arrive to so just wait and see :D

Tbh I'd rather the mild dull damp weather to freezing cold rain ??? but I also think someone is trying to make a fool out of me cos I've just checked again and now heavy snow is forecast for my area.  I give up, if the forecasters don't know wot they r doing wot chance have we got ?? I think its a case of stick my head outside and c for myself lol

patience - the cold 850's are still coming in - they will be south of the uk by early Friday morning - most showers will be wintry/snowy by then

I'm saying it how I c It, temps r not as cold as they thought it would b and the forecast has gone from snow to sleet and rain for my area which tells me it's not as cold as forecast. The higher u r the better but low levels in my opinion will only c sleet or rain, I hope I'm wrong but that' that's wot I think

So what are peeps thoughts this morning?? We need the EC to come in line for me....South East Wales not looking so great in my opinion ?. Set up like this usually result in the showers hitting the west coast of Wales, get eaten up my mountains in Mid Wales or running through the Cheshire gap and missing us to the East!! Actually apart from a front approaching from the south west in to cold embedded air....I don't know what set up is best for South Eastern Wales counties...any ideas?

    Cheers

    WW

I'd say things r not looking favourable for us at the mo I think we r going to b dry and sunny but hoping to b proved wrong

additional info then tonight - 18z - if it's to be believed - MAJOR SNOW into Wales starting next monday morning and then through into tuesday - then possibly the temps begin creeping up - outside of the reliable but that could be well our snow chances across all height levels - in the meantime - the odd flake could well penetrate this far west so hang onto your hats - winter has properly finally arrived

Winter hasn't properly finally arrived it's just another cold snap no better than 1 we've already had this winter

  5. Looking like an average cold snap is on the cards for the next few days and not snowmageddon which a few were talking about. Give me dry cold weather to the mild mush any day of the week and this winter has been much better than previous years even if we don't get snow days

  6. Not often I'd give up on winter this early but everything has gone against us this year when things have been favourable for us as in no Atlantic steam train. I think with the amount of time the Atlantic has been held off once it gets back in it will b near impossible to move and the wind and rain fest will last for ages

Given the chopping and changes on the models do you think this one solution will be any more likley to verify?  :aggressive:

They change so much I think anything is possible, 1 thing I've noticed over the years is b4 we have a good snowfall we'll always have these marginal snow events leading up to it a week or 2 b4 the main event happens. Fingers crossed it's 1 of those events b4 the main course lol
