  1. Yeah, around mid-August is usually when the darkness "hits" me, I obviously notice the longer nights earlier but it's around that time I really take notice of the shortening days. The reverse tends to happen in mid-February, too.
  2. March 1965 also saw a low of -21.7C on the 3rd, giving that calendar month a temperature range of 46.7C! Incidentally, that low was the coldest of the entire year, so in many places that one month must have had both the coldest and warmest temperatures of the year! Got to love the variety of March; no other month is capable of both bitter cold and genuine warmth to such an extent.
  3. Sod it, I'll go for a warm 17.7C. Above average temperatures are being as stubborn as a mule.
  4. 13.3C please. June is a global warming skeptic!
  5. It's the same with dogs, "breed standards" have a lot to answer for, as they nearly always are detrimental to the health of the animal. You've only got to look at a picture/drawing/painting of a 18th/19th century Bulldog to see how different they were back then; much healthier, more athletic and, in my opinion, much better looking animals before they were bred to have stubby legs and a short snout that causes breathing issues.
  6. Yeah, it was surprisingly cool here yesterday with maxima around 11/12C. It's been a touch milder today, but not by much. The pollution levels and accompanying haze probably tempered maxima somewhat.
  7. What a beautiful picture. So far 2013 is blowing 2014 out of the water at the same stage for interesting weather. Anyway, I've seen no snow here, only a hail shower in Feb that lasted on the ground for a few hours.
  8. I wonder if April has ever recorded a lower minima than the preceding 4, even 5, months?Maybe 1989? Like you said, it's entirely possible, especially considering the poor efforts of the last 4 months.
  9. Yep. A complete non-starter this winter. Hopefully a major flip to cold come November/December.
  10. The continent and seas were much colder at this stage last year, so any easterly this year, even on the same respective date, would have nowhere near the same bite after a very mild European winter.
  11. I suspect we will finish around the high 6's after corrections.
  12. I'm doing poorly this time so caution is going to the wind; I'll go for a chilly 6.7C - coldest since '89
  13. It looks like sea ice is still increasing, snow cover looks slightly higher than about a week ago - The Baltic States, Belarus and Ukraine were snowless then (see map on previous page).https://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/
  14. Minima have shot up from 2.7C on the 15th to 3.6C today. Maxima now on 11.7C.
  15. Maybe, but all I've seen is people mentioning possible snow for the north/hills and potentially some for lower ground, hardly excessive ramping in my book. And saying things like "coldest spell potential since March 2013" is actually accurate, as there has been nothing remotely wintry for most of the UK since then.I don't think anyone has ramped this upcoming spell much more than for what it actually is - a likely brief cold snap with a few wintry showers.
  16. Apparently there is "major ramping" going on in regards to the upcoming cool/cold spell. Can someone hand me a magnifying glass and fine tooth comb, please? And to think of all those "OMG, March 2012 repeat!" posts a few weeks ago...
  17. Although it's far too early to say I've got a feeling we could see a cool/cold April a la '89, after a very mild preceding Dec-Mar.
  18. More massive contrasts in temperature typical at this time of year, here it is cool and cloudy while parts of the east/south are about 10C warmer in the sunshine.
  19. It's an odd climate, September is the warmest month and October is warmer than July. Massive seasonal lag, although December is still the second coldest month.http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Francisco
  20. Temperatures generally between the high teens and mid twenties during the day, between 10-15C overnight. No spell of one weather type lasting more than a week or so at a time. The odd hot day, the odd cool one. Ample rain but in short bursts. A few good thunderstorms thrown into the mix. Generally low humidity. Frequent gentle breezes, some calm days. Plenty of sunshine. So, all in all, pretty standard British summer conditions.
