Everything posted by March Blizzard

  1. 6.9C to the 13th. 1.8C above the 60-91 average.
  2. True, but it's more common on the eastern side of the Pennines than on this side; even Manchester only scrapes 20C as an average high in July and August, let alone further north.
  3. I think so, yes. I've seen (read) nothing but informed posts, using the model outputs, to explain the possibility of colder weather occurring. How that equates to people not being "sensible" is beyond me.I'm all for Banter, but downplaying the valid opinions of others doesn't fit into that category.Anyway, the weather will do what it will, so a potent April northerly may come as a shock when all the sensible people fail to spot it in advance.
  4. And 30 miles down the road from you Aboyne has had the largest ranges in the country recently!
  5. Odd post. Quite patronising, too.I must not be sensible, I'm open to the possibility of some wintry weather at this time of year, which was emphatically proven possible just last year.
  6. Aboyne confirmed at -6.5C for early on the 12th. That's colder than anything in December (-6.1C) and just a shade of January's low of -6.6C. February's -7.7C looks fairly safe for the time being.
  7. A range of at least 21.5C yesterday at Aboyne: -6.5C to 15.0C. The minima is confirmed but the max is hourly observation, so could be higher.
  8. Aboyne was at -5.7C at 7am this morning on the hourly observations, so the overall value may surpass or match the December 2013 low of -6.1C in Dalwhinnie on the 7th. I'd imagine many places have had more air frosts so far in March than the entire winter.
  9. Average max stays at 11.2C, minima down 0.1C to 2.8C, which probably explains the drop from yesterday. We could be looking at a cool maxima day across much of the CET zone, especially if the fog and cloud lingers until or beyond midday. We could be back in the 6's on tomorrow's update.
  10. So the much vaunted "strong" March sunshine can only scrape a "moderate" at midday, at mid-month!
  11. Aboyne confirmed as the coldest and warmest station in Grampian yesterday: Min: -4.2C Max: 15.4C Diurnal range: 19.6C. Quite impressive. Today has got off to an even better start with a low of -5.7C, so barring any cloud or fog interference a 20C + range looks quite likely today.
  12. Aboyne: -3.7C to 15.2C so far, impressive. Aberdeenshire seems to be the place to get large ranges at this time of year, similar to March 2012.
  13. Like 2012, it's mainly the maxima so far that are bumping up the CET so much. As of the 10th maxima are 11.2C, 2.8C above average, whereas minima is provisionally on 2.9C to the 11th, 1.2C above average. Even so, the minima up until now are lower than the preceding winter months: Dec (3.3C), Jan (3.0C) and Feb (3.4C).
  14. Yes, Gav. It's beautiful here in the NW...looks nice in the NE, too!
  15. Single digit maxima forecast for Saturday here, a sign of a N/NW flow becoming established, or just more cloud spilling into the high? http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/
  16. It appears that any cold snap, one that has consistently shown up on many runs over the last 3-4 days, has been cancelled...because a run this morning said so.
  17. Typical mad March weather. I can predict the Daily Mail headline already:"From the furnace to the FREEZER, Britain braced for 20C DROP in temperatures"
  18. How often is 30C recorded in May? I'd imagine it's about as likely/frequent as 20C is in March.
