Model Output Discussion - 30th November onwards
CanadaAl replied to Paul's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Sifting through the charts from 4 years ago, it did seem that the GFS was really all over the place until the 11th. I know "No two years can be the same" but it does give us some hope as to what may unfold. In the case of that cold spell, the 18Z seem to of had a better grasp of things of what was to come. Keep smiling folks -

Winter 2013-2014 Discussion- Part 2
CanadaAl replied to Cheshire Freeze's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
I'm not sure but i'm getting a bit of a hunch that we're in for an 11/12 type winter. I'm by no means writing it off, just a gut feeling. Anyone know of factors that are similar and those that are different from what's forecast vs 2011/2012? Really loving the thread. Love the excitement building -

It's snowing here, BBC said rain for my area. Not complaining but this could make tonight more hopeful, anyone else getting unexpected snow?- 938 replies

CanadaAl replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
If the main front doesn't reach us, it looks like we could still see some pre-frontal covective snowfall with streamers to boot. will be interesting how things go later on as that front pushes north- 783 replies

Just seen the radar and germany seems to be riddled with showers, they seem to be heading west, anyone have a hunch we could be in the firing line? i know there's no mention of it on the weather forecasts but just a thought really- 774 replies

Winter Model Discussion 18Z 12/2/13 onwards.
CanadaAl replied to chionomaniac's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
I know to take a barrel of salt with the precip charts but the latest gfs charts do seem to indicate higher snow risk for the east from weds onwards, subject to change at this range obviously -
Typical, front seems to be stalling just 10 miles north west of me, now that is unlucky!
-
Looking at weather undergound radar, it seems this whole band, all the way to crewe and liverpool is snow away from the coast. So we could have some lying snow for a while before the second band washes it away
-
Yeah i can see what you mean but i have a hunch, the further east you are, the more likely you are to hang on to the colder air. BBC seem to think, 3/4 hours of snowfall for my area. I guess it's just a waiting game really
-
O dear that's not good. i thought you guys were meant to be in the firing line for the heavy stuff?
-
Seems you lucky guys down south west essex/herts/bucks way are having a good pasting! feel bad for our friends up norfolk/suffolk way
-
Yeah judging by the radar does look hit and miss, seems heavier ppn just a teeny bit to my south, i think its meant to move north over next couple of hours
-
really a bit of a non-event so far here sadly, hoping that heavier ppn around london will head our way
