  1. Looks like the GFS has been on the Mulled Wine! Merry Christmas everyone!
  2. Looks like uncle Barty might be visiting for christmas. Hopefully he might get be a better present this time round...
  3. one year anniversary of "That ECM" should we be suspicious?
  4. Sifting through the charts from 4 years ago, it did seem that the GFS was really all over the place until the 11th. I know "No two years can be the same" but it does give us some hope as to what may unfold. In the case of that cold spell, the 18Z seem to of had a better grasp of things of what was to come. Keep smiling folks
  5. This is what the models shown 4 years ago today for 18th of Dec 2009. All very much still to play for
  6. I'm not sure but i'm getting a bit of a hunch that we're in for an 11/12 type winter. I'm by no means writing it off, just a gut feeling. Anyone know of factors that are similar and those that are different from what's forecast vs 2011/2012? Really loving the thread. Love the excitement building
  7. Yeah looking good for us lot in essex, flakes getting bigger, snow getting heavier and that streamer just keeps on feeding more in. hopefully it will start to settle if this continues after dusk
  8. Yeah it seems so, i think that's why i was so surprised to see it snowing outside! maybe colder air is hanging on further east than predicted
  9. It's snowing here, so you're right. clearly these conditions are indicative of snow
  10. It's snowing here, BBC said rain for my area. Not complaining but this could make tonight more hopeful, anyone else getting unexpected snow?
  11. Do you think north-west essex could well be in the game soon? seen a few flakes blowing around
  12. I sadly don't think it will, our best chance is with these showers coming in off the north sea, i don't think they will deliver much for us though
  13. Awful here, worse so that there is a great swathe of dark grey cloud sitting to my southeast that just doesn't want to come closer. oh well, still a few hours to go before we give up
  14. If the main front doesn't reach us, it looks like we could still see some pre-frontal covective snowfall with streamers to boot. will be interesting how things go later on as that front pushes north
  15. Just seen the radar and germany seems to be riddled with showers, they seem to be heading west, anyone have a hunch we could be in the firing line? i know there's no mention of it on the weather forecasts but just a thought really
  16. I know to take a barrel of salt with the precip charts but the latest gfs charts do seem to indicate higher snow risk for the east from weds onwards, subject to change at this range obviously
  17. Typical, front seems to be stalling just 10 miles north west of me, now that is unlucky!
  18. Looking at weather undergound radar, it seems this whole band, all the way to crewe and liverpool is snow away from the coast. So we could have some lying snow for a while before the second band washes it away
  19. Yeah i can see what you mean but i have a hunch, the further east you are, the more likely you are to hang on to the colder air. BBC seem to think, 3/4 hours of snowfall for my area. I guess it's just a waiting game really
  20. O dear that's not good. i thought you guys were meant to be in the firing line for the heavy stuff?
  21. Seems you lucky guys down south west essex/herts/bucks way are having a good pasting! feel bad for our friends up norfolk/suffolk way
  22. Yeah judging by the radar does look hit and miss, seems heavier ppn just a teeny bit to my south, i think its meant to move north over next couple of hours
  23. really a bit of a non-event so far here sadly, hoping that heavier ppn around london will head our way
  24. Think that just goes to show how volatile this situation is,I think some pleasant suprises for some come tomorrow evening
