Could see decent elevated convection further north from stansted airport - may be that cell Cambridge way. Not much of note round here currently and the cloud keeps cutting the heating off.

Dark young CB now gaining height just east of here, blocking the sun. Maybe an indication that with a bit of insolation things could get interesting. It looks a bit lonely though at the moment. Rest of sky full of Ac cas.

I think they bring their forecast out at about 6am
It's been pretty random in the past and is often out after 11pm.

Just looked outside. Not as much instability as I might have expected, but still quite a bit of cirrus around
Fair bit round here, few miles north

nice patches of mackerel sky appearing now.

Euro 4 does not look encouraging for late afternoon/evening surface based storms in the south. And even early morning elevated ones are sketchy. Will be interesting to see which model(s) come out on top. Possible Thursday evening organised storms in the Midlands?

Been raining heavily for several hours now, but suspect that's all it will be.
Estofex not showing anything for uk tomorrow. Looks like next chance will be Friday afternoon.

And to think people down-south only a week ago were moaning about the lack of storms forecasted for that predicted (but failed) thundery breakdown.
The storm today wasn't up to much. The number of storms in this neck of the woods seems to be massively down on previous years. However, on the plus side we've had an amazing Spring/summer so far, best for quite a few years.

Was in stortford this morning and caught the edge of the storm going to duxford. Few cgs and rumbles, torrential rain. But nothing terribly exciting, all elevated presumably.

Still a bit early, but slightly worrying eastward movement showing today for next Tues/Wed.

South east looks as if its being going of with a bang
Not round here, the lower half of EA got pretty much bypassed. Just messy clouds and sun this way.

I don't remember things being like this when I was a kid. I can remember consecutive years of memorable storms and a few night time events chucked in for good measure too. Never known anything like the period we are in at present. It's an effort to get anything.
It cannot be normal to be going whole 12 month periods without any thunder surely.
2015-2017 seems to be following the same pattern around this way, we have very hot periods with extreme cape etc but with impossible to break capping, under high pressure. The severe potential just doesn't get realised.

Estofex is out and very uninspiring. Looks like the heatwave will go out with a whimper,

Woh, massive flash and really loud thunder out of no where. Local cell seems to have developed. More lightning now.
-
Looks like lightning activity dying down north of London.

Getting dark round here as showers approach. But I'd prefer the showers to s*d off and let the sun come out for a prolonged period as this looks a bit like the all too frequent plume scenario at present when u have a day of white milky cloud and nothing happens.
