  1. Broken cloud and pieces of sunshine most of the day here today so far. Meanwhile, it appears to be snowing in the Pennines!?
  2. Overcast here all day, but at least there was some rain overnight - or before I got up at least! - to help the garden.
  3. Hazy sun this morning in North Somerset. Seems like endless sunny days at the moment. A nice antidote to the gloom we had here at the start of the month.
  4. Nice sunny day here today, topping out at 12-13 degrees C. Even had some lenticular clouds resident over the Severn Estuary after lunch.
  5. Lovely sunny start to the day, with fairly light winds. Looks like the ridge of high pressure should hold for at least part of the weekend.
  6. Got hit by a very intense hail shower whilst driving in Portishead about an hour ago. The sound of the hail against the windscreen and roof was deafening. Need to check the bonnet of my car, I'm hoping it doesn't look like Dominator 4 ...
  7. Still very windy here but the crazy storm gusts have stopped. Wind has veered and now has a slight northerly component in it, I can hear it on my front door which faces N - wind I would guess is now WNW. Pressure has started rising again.
  8. BBC now suggesting that the strongest winds will be later today - see below. It looks like the storm hasn't tracked as quickly as they expected. I don't know if they have changed the time period of the Red warning but I think many people think it will be ok to go out after midday? Mind you, I've seen plenty of elderly dog walkers on the coastal path in the last hour so I guess for some people the precise times of the warnings don't matter. I guess dogs need to be walked. Central pressure of the storm seems to be around 974mb. I think it was 986mb when i went to bed. I was expecting it to be a bit lower by now but it is probably just qualifying for bombogenesis.
  9. I live right on the North Somerset coast (Portishead), with views of Avonmouth and Wales, I'll post some video of anything hairy or interesting tomorrow morning, e.g. my back fence interfering with the shipping lane. edit: the shape of this coming storm reminds me of the St Stephens Day/Boxing Day storm of 1998. I witnessed that first hand on the west side of Ireland, it's probably the most brutal wind storm I've experienced.
  10. Mostly sunny today in Portishead and Clevedon, very spring-like. Temperature appeared to oscillate between 12-13 degrees but definitely felt warmer in the sun, with the car thermometer at one point was showing 16 degrees whilst driving along.
  11. Nice to get bits and pieces of sun throughout the day today in Portishead. Sun is back out again now. Makes all the difference with the evenings getting lighter.
  12. Looks like some heavy rain has moved into the SW. Probably an hour or so before it lands in N Somerset.
  13. 'Tornado' hits Northamptonshire: Roads closed, trees knocked over and trains delayed after heavy winds and rain | Northampton Chronicle and Echo WWW.NORTHAMPTONCHRON.CO.UK 'At this busy time please only call 999 in an emergency'
  14. Chance of hail and thunder for some tomorrow (Monday), according to the Met Office, although no official weather warning issued - so presumably it's a slight chance.
  15. Just spent an hour trying to find something photogenic in the skies, but not much about in the N Somerset area currently - other than sharp showers. Later this afternoon is starting to look pretty interesting ...
  16. Got a nice lightning show here in North Somerset at around 0630 this morning.
