  1. Yep, I'm living in dreamland really, but I thought I would take a look nonetheless as my barograph dipped briefly this morning, and that surface pressure drop over the midlands isn't too far away. Mind you, the dewpoint here is 14 degrees, which is pretty discouraging.
  2. Just back from a reccy around the North Somerset area, couldn't see much convection out there other than a few small Cu over nearbly S Wales.
  3. Do they have a policy of clamping or impounding? FWIW, I've been clamped before (in my own private parking space in central Bristol - ridiculous!) and it was a whole bundle of hassle getting the vehicle unclamped. Plus there was slight wheel damage.
  4. Yes, I hadn't considered the temp differential of sea vs land on both sides on hot days, plus presumably any 'Channel Sink' pressure differential also. As you say, it could be worth a study. I know that the UK supposedly gets more tornadic events per square mile than most other places in the world, but I would still say that it's above average that Bristol and the Severn Estuary gets something of that ilk once every two or three years.
  5. Heavy rain showers on and off all morning in Portishead. There's a joggers' / dog walkers' path just in front of my house. On days like this, I see so many people getting soaked to the skin because they ventured out when it was sunny and didn't consider that it might rain. Even saw/heard a couple arguing over it yesterday as their toddler got soaked.
  6. Sometimes weird stuff happens around here ... there was a waterspout last August, and a mini-twister this April (though could have been a dust devil). Could be some orographic effect related to the narrowing of the channel or the Black Mountains? Dunno. Watch: 'Dust devil' tornado spotted in Newport at Tiny Rebel Brewing WWW.SOUTHWALESARGUS.CO.UK Brewery workers double-checked their beer goggles when they spotted a tornado blowing up a storm outside their gates in Newport.
  7. Yep, same here - all the action seems to be around Exmoor and north of Taunton.
  8. More heavy showers heading toward my neck of neck of the woods - have the video cam ready in case anything gets interesting.
  9. I think that cell is just about to pass overhead here - sky has darkened.
  10. I know what good CAPE values for the US are (2000kJ and above), but is there anyone here who can state what a good figure is for the UK?
  11. Yes, high tops. Looks like it's all easing back now, though still some high tops towards Gloucester and Hereford, at a guess from what I can see. (I have a fairly straight view up the Severn Estuary from where I am).
  12. N Somerset may be in the firing line, will video anything that gets interesting.
  13. A couple of showers have passed through Portishead already this morning. Good for the garden.
  14. Sunny currently in North Somerset, but high level cloud just starting to creep in - remants of a frontal system.
  15. Definitely a great idea from a storm-watching perspective if you can manage it. I have a north view of the Severn estuary. It's nowhere near as good as having a view across the English Channel, for sue, but the Bristol channel does throw up the odd meteorological spectacle. I've videoed a few electrical storms and some other items of interest.
  16. I prefer to be as close as possible. Filmed this waterspout last year from about 3 miles away.
  17. First time posting here since registering in 2012. Will be watching avidly from Portishead. Barometric pressure here has dropped 6 mb since yesterday evening, and humidity is high.
  18. Complex charts for the remainder of the week with low pressure broadly centred over the British Isles, so I would say there is a fair chance of 'interesting' whether for some of us. Work has me going from West to East and back every day this week, so it's effectively funding my storm chasing - although only at rush hour!
  19. Small funnel cloud seen about 5+ miles off Perranporth just after midday yesterday. I think I caught the back end of it as it faded within a minute of me spotting it so I don't know whether it was larger at any point - must check the beeb to see if it was reported. I took some video with phone. If the resolution is decent enough I will upload it to Youtube with my others. I followed lots of interesting weather for approx 3 hrs yesterday, from Penzance to Bristol, but nothing else of note was witnessed.
  20. Some more pictures of yesterday's events here: http://www.bbc.co.uk...-leeds-19423779 (not sure why the link says 'Leeds' when it is North Somerset ...)
  21. I'm struggling to get yesterday's funnel video off my phone. It's hardly great anyway as I saw the funnel from probably 10+ miles away and by the time I arrived in Bristol it had dispersed. Here's the one I caught last year. It had faded somewhat by the time I was able to stop and start shooting, but you can still see the basic shape:
