  1. I think so, although they state it as 1st December, best part of that vid I like is between 35 and 45 secs, looks like a postcard.
  2. This video was taken on 1st December 2010, not sure by who but the start of it is just round the corner from here and was just the start of what was to come. So if we get as much next week as in the video then I would settle for that
  3. You know what it's like some people in here won't be satisfied until the snow depth reaches their roof, but on topic for the end of November and early December these esembles are great for cold http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MT8_Manchester_ens.png
  4. Not just the Midlands or the East, I am in the green bordering the pink bit but looks like it will be a Pennine event *IF* it comes off. Say at and above 200m or so.
  5. Interestingly Accuweather have forcasted Scotland as having below average "rainfall this Winter or below average snowfall, either one of them, I hope that doesn't mean stubborn HP influencing more Northern areas.
  6. Bishkek the capital of Kyrgyzstan (although not Europe) has snow and quite a lot of it at the moment, still snowing right now after snowing most of the day: Live steaming webcam of Alo-Too Square in Bishkek http://live.saimanet.kg/ or you can view still images updated every 5 secs here http://webcam.saimanet.kg/
  7. Just one of my fav's was probably the 4 inches we got on the night of 29-30th December 2001. Early evening on 29th the snow band was sitting over Dumfries & Galloway and was shaped a bit like a boomerang on the radar. The snow band itself was not forecast to move South, it was forecast to be just clear and frosty here but the band moved South and gave us a decent covering by late evening and morning. The snow itself stuck around until 5th Jan here until the mild and wet Jan and Feb started.
  8. More snow in Bishkek Kyrgyzstan, live streaming video from Ala-Too square in the city here: http://live.saimanet.kg/ or you can view the still one here which is updated every 5 seconds or so: http://webcam.saimanet.kg/
  9. Yes the 08/09 snowfalls were good and spread out over the 3 months, whereas 10/11 was only really a December affair. What I remember vividly is how often there was an ice warning in our car, it felt like most days it would warn us. We had the car for a good few years before 08/09 but that was the Winter that really started things off.
  10. You know what it's like some people are never satisfied unless we get 20 foot drifts . But really I think it's probably a case of us being spoilt over the past 3 years in terms of the depth of cold, so people will look for the possibility of deep cold in the models.
  11. And it is certainly COLD!!! http://www.wundergro...ions/24959.html Winter hasn't tightened it's grip yet there either. They usually get as low as -55C or -60C
  12. 4.4C the temp here now, dropping like a stone.....going to be a frosty one here.
  13. Never found Tomasz a great presenter, he comes across to me as rather smug and patronising when explaining things, I think Rob McElwee, Peter Gibbs and Phil Avery are better presenters overall.
  14. Even then at 56 years of age I woke up disappointed that morning We usually do well for snow here due to living in a semi rural (the only part of Failsworth that is haha) river side location away from the urban heat sprawl but obviously elevation was king that day. I hope this Winter brings what we all want!
  15. I just hope we don't get a Winter like the event on 4th April this year when marginal snowfalls occured due to elevation, parts of Oldham got pasted but we had nothing more than a sugar dusting on the grass here in this part of Oldham. The picture below on 4th April illustrates how height can really give you a decent covering - this picture was took at approx 250m or 820 feet asl on Ripponden Road. Compare that to here at only 305 feet. So no surprise that just a few miles away and over 500 feet higher there was 3 inches. http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/
  16. Yes I should of said November/Early December 2010, I'm certainly not writing off the whole of December.
  17. Oh dear if a potent "cold" spell doesn't come off as thought in a couple of weeks then some of the experts in here that just a few days ago seemed confident of it happening will end up with a very sore head through pulling hairs out by December. But if it does happen then I will to you all for sticking to your guns. Let's face it though as of tonight the chances of a November/December 2010 style freeze are low, there really can be no illusions of that. Things do change though but we do need consistency and soon.
  18. This is always an interesting webcam located in Central Asia in the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, it is currently snowing, and they can have quite a lot through the Winter. http://webcam.saimanet.kg/
  19. Let's see what the 12z and 18z bring later on, hopefully there will be more consistency again with bringing the cold in let's hope so anyway. But again as of this morning most runs (at the moment) are not going for a cold end to the month comparable to 2 years ago, but there was certainly more hope of that around 10pm last night. All I am saying is what I am seeing. I like cold weather but I never use a cold bias and pretend the mild runs don't exist or that they are irrelevant. It wouldn't be fair on the new visitors to the site This next chart looks promising on the GFS but as always it is deep FI and not likely to verify as shown http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn3841.png It really is all hope at the moment, nothing more.
  20. As of this mornng the mean shows above average temperatures for the end of the month. Some very mild runs there too. It can't be ignored.
  21. Well I did say last night that there would be a flip around to something less cold and again it has happened, people getting all excited last night for it to be dashed this morning, in reality it really is difficult to get proper cold weather in the UK, we have lots of reasons against it. There is still time though - that is the one thing we have for now anyway. No doubt tonight the models will tease again and show something colder ha ha. But as of this morning this shows a milder end to the month NOT cold: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MT8_Manchester_ens.png
  22. Let's just wait and see, will probably be different again tomorrow, everything that is positive is in FI so can be taken with a large pinch of salt at the mo. The signs are encouraging non-the-less.
  23. Indeed and it is more difficult for us to get cold here due to where we are positioned in Europe, a few things moderate the cold here. If we lived 800 miles east or north it would be the opposite difficulty! Take somewhere like Warsaw, Moscow and Helsinki as examples. But As of tonight I remain optimistic about the current models, as we all know things can change swiftly.
  24. A Northerly of sorts: http://www.wetterzen...s/Rtavn3601.png But before then ECM has HP slap bang over us http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Recm2161.gif
