  1. Hazy sunshine here, going out shortly to catch some rays before it disappears only to be seen at some date in the future. Its got up to 3.5c which is the highest for a while, positively a heatwave!
  2. April 27th my birthday, although unfortunately not my 18th in fact my son celebrated his 18th 2 weeks ago. I remember as a child that it was always hot and sunny on my birthday. I use to be given the bumps on the school field and we were only allowed on there at playtimes if it was warm and dry.
  3. Some very good points made about the mod thread. I read this board all year round and have done for a couple of years. I read the model discussion because I like to get others thoughts on what may lay ahead because although I can read the charts, I'm no expert. We run a farm and my interests lay outdoors and so I like to be able to plan ahead when possible. Now I gave up reading the mod thread daily a couple of months ago because it became full of snow hunters and the opinions and comments were completely unobjectionable and biased. The rest of the year that doesn't happen and I get to read about what the models are showing and not what people want them to show.
  4. I've given the subject of liking/disliking extreme weather a bit more thought. Maybe it comes down to experiences, personality types and age. Now I'm a 'mumsy' type (not girly, mumsy) and I have a very strong need to look after people and wanting everyone to be safe and whilst I am fascinated by mother nature, my first thoughts are if people are ok and safe. Also I have noticed that more of the 'older' posters seem less likely to be into the extremes, maybe this is due to experiences or understanding the consequences or maybe being parents changes the way you think.
  5. From what I can gather it seems that the people who enjoy the extremes are people that perhaps haven't had their lives affected by that type of weather. Try to read that sentence in a polite calm way as it isn't having a go at anyone. I use these forums because not only am I interested in weather and climate but I am fascinated by forecasting and looking for trends, so not all of us are extreme weather enthusiasts. My whole life is pretty much dependent on the weather, we have a farm to run, I help with looking after wildlife habitats and my main hobby is butterfly hunting. I enjoy bike rides as the exercise makes me feel good, the sun makes me happy because I suffer from SAD. I also know the consequences of extreme weather, my great great gran was killed by lightening, My car was hit by a tractor sliding on ice, my friend was injured and her car written off when she hit flood water and I've had a couple of close shaves with lightening and was once indirectly hit. Yes heat kills too but I'm not looking for a heatwave, just blue skys, warm sunshine with a temperature of around 20c.
  6. It might have been an awful winter on the Mendips in comparison with other years but down here at a much lower level our 2 days in January with laying snow is pretty good. For 12 years I only saw a couple of dustings so I'm happy with one decent snowfall during the winter months. Had a few flurries this morning and temp now at 1.3c.
  7. Just been out with the dogs and my word thats bitter. Small baby flakes blowing around in the wind which has now pepped up now I'm back in the house. I caught a reflection of myself in the door when I went out and realised that any fashion sense (probably very little) just goes out of the window in this weather. I have to say I looked remarkably special in my purple muckboots, black jeans, long knitted jumper, my most amazing padded patchwork jacket, a checked furry trapper hat and knitted capped gloves Temp up to a heady 0.7c
  8. I had a couple of microscopic snow grains on the car windscreen this morning, not sure that counts . Currently 0.2c with dp -6c
  9. Morning. 0.7c grey and drab but I shall take it because its dry. The models seem to show either cold or mild and wet. I shall continue my search for mild and dry
  10. I haven't seen anything yet. We had a lovely day a couple of weeks ago, sunny and 15c and I did go out and check. I was glad that nothing was about as I knew the weather was going to get cold again.
  11. Could you predict me a lovely sunny, warm and dry summer please?
  12. I have been looking at my butterfly records for the last couple of years and it is normally around this time (well any when from the middle of March onwards) that I record the first butterflies coming out of hibernation and will be on the look-out for the first orange tips that have hatched out. I can see it will be a lot later this year, far too cold, lack of sun and the food sources haven't appeared yet. Also I would have been out on my bike most days working off the winter podge, looks like its staying with me abit longer this year!
  13. I've never got it either. I love gardening but I just mow the lawn when it needs mowing. I saw something on tv a while ago about this man which ifrc had his lawn voted the best in the UK or something or other. The hours he put into it were incredible. I just saw it as green grass! Anyway its just grey cold nothingness here but its dry which is a bonus. 2.5c with a dew point of 1.3c.
  14. Same here, we have dropped to 2.4c. Thought it had started snowing here but quickly realised that a bird poop had hit my window
  15. 2.6c and drizzly, a real grey murky day I would very much like to see the sun make an appearance at some point today.
  16. Don't do it to yourself Mullender, expect rain to avoid any disappointment.
  17. 5.7c and cloudy. Looking at the radar its now probably the calm before the storm. We seem to have been lucky so far with rainfall and haven't seen anything heavy with the risk of flooding as of yet. We shall see what happens today. Stay safe.
  18. Yes and we shall build a barrier across the M4 to keep them away from our sun and beaches mwahhaahhaahaaahhaaahahaha
  19. Yes please but not a summer like last year! Absolutely miserable and depressing out there, now up to 3.7c with sodding cold rain. The radar shows us being under sleet but that is pure rain out there. It is enough to flatten anyone’s mood seeing how much is still to come on the radar
  20. I might be in trouble later unless it turns back to rain soon. I have a friend in Shepton who calls me the weather witch and she asked me yesterday what the weather would do today and I said rain. She will now doubt my powers
  21. I might just scrape it being about 5 miles north of the A303, probably slightly less as the crow flies
  22. I just read that from Ian f in the mod thread (yes I ventured in there for the first time in ages, my hunt for warmth is getting desperate lol) and was quite surprised reading about concerns so far way in weather forecasting terms. The pessimist in me is expecting severe rain and floods.
