  1. I think the warm trend will continue in November, so I'll go for 7.2c MM
  2. Yes,all the roads are covered where I am. Looks like heavy graupel, enough to make it crunchy when walking back from the pub. If it carries on like this then a centimetre or two at least. It's some sort of streamer, but not really a Thames streamer. It seems to just pick up where the cold air meets the warmer water near the coast. MM
  3. Basically a dusting here in Tunbridge Wells. Still coming down with a noticeable number of flakes. MM
  4. Snowing properly in Tunbridge Wells (where I am on the high ground anyway). Lawn now more white than green, car roof white (it is a black car!). House rooves turning white, but no settling on roads or pavements yet. Temp dropped from 2.2c to 0.5c since the rain to sleet to snow transition started an hour ago. No DP reading I'm afraid. MM
  5. Started snowing here in Tunbridge Wells, not heavy yet and not settling......but a nice goodbye to a very good cold spell! MM
  6. Here in Tunbridge Wells now up to about 12cm from the 3 cm we started with this morning. A great day of steady but never heavy snow, with temps below 0c all day. MM
  7. About scale 6 in Tunbridge Wells, what I would call moderate very fine snow. Topping up what we have already got, but not yet obliterating the existing footprints . 0.5 cm max at present, but it looks like loads to come! MM
  8. Despite the fact at it has been snowing in Tunbridge Wells since about 09.30 this morning we only seem to have just over 3cm! However that is just enough to make things look reasonable. Still, it looks as if there may be some more on the way from France. Might hit here if we are lucky. Hardly any traffic on the roads, which, since 18.00, have turned white here. Biggest disappointment is that the lamppost outside my house has decided to fail - what a time for that to happen! MM
  9. In Tunbridge Wells it has been snowing since about 09.30, but has never really been anything other than light. I would be surprised if we have got to 0.5 cm yet. The heavier bands have, so far, fizzled out before they get here. Not complaining though! Let's hope it breaks through and gets a bit further east! MM
  10. A bit to late I'm afraid, but I'll go for 2.9c. MM
  11. 20.40 Level 0 in Tunbridge Wells! Looking at radar and still hopeful we will get a covering. Temp = -1.2c. MM
  12. 20.35, still nothing in Tunbridge Wells, but hopeful of at least a covering. Looking at the radar and not getting too excited at the moment! Temp = -1.2. MM
  13. I've recorded 562mm here in Tunbridge Wells, West Kent. This is the lowest total in the 14 years I have kept records for this location.. MM
  14. Yes, just put the car away and there were about 50 or so small/medium sized flakes on it! Nothing to get too excited about, but nevertheless it does confirm the report! MM
  15. I expect something warmer, but not outrageously so as we are only slowly climing out of a long solar minumum and I expect the patterns of the last two to three years to continue. Where exactly this ends up could be dicatated by the degree of perisitence of La Nina of the existing NE Atlantic SST anomalies. Taking all these factors in to account I'll go for 9.55c. MM
  16. Sorry I thought I was in the Arctic Ice thread...it seems to have gone off track somewhat since the last time I looked in! I seem to remember reading some time ago that one of the signs of Gulf Stream slowdown would be the development of warm pooling to the south and west of Iceland - the normal sink point areas for the GS. These warm pools have been there for some time now and could be one of the reasons why ice growth in adjaccent areas such as Baffin and Hudson Bay has been so slow this year. Take off these areas for usual ice expectations and this could go a long way to accounting for the missing ice. Any thoughts? MM
  17. 6.6c for me please. A milder start, yes, but overall about average. MM
  18. When I heard this news for a moment I could not believe it. For me Rob is a legend and quite simply this is a disgrace. Then, when I thought about it I realsed that this is the BBC.....probably the decision of some weather media consultant! Well how do we protest and how do we get our message heard? Facebook, perhaps (I'm not a member so that it no use to me). Is there a BBC e/mail address or what? These ******s should not really be allowed to get away with it. MM
