  1. Loving the long sunny days-ideal for my golf and gardening activities.Just wish it maxed out at around 21-23C rather than near 30C that many of us are seeing.Maybe it's my advancing years but i find afternoons and early evenings quite wearing and am then looking for some shade and rest so i try and get my hobbies done by lunchtime at the latest. This is one time when those sea breezes in coastal locations can be so welcome whereas here in the centre of England the stillness allows the heat to hang around and night times are quite stifling now.A great July for heat lovers though particularly if near a beach or pool and a cool drink or 2 within reach.

Thats why im so glad im living on the coast its been a great few days here apart from sunday morning temps around 22/23c perfect summer weather the sea breeze makes all the diff im glad i moved from midlands esp when theres hot weather

  2. I love Skegness. Nice to hear its getting some warmth just like we are just up the coast

cheers mate enjoy your sun and warmth spent good few hours even had a paddle and the sea isnt as cold as i thought u soon get used to it cracking day i was looking at some temp records for here August 1990 and july 1983 got up to 32c would love that again B)
  3. The latest guidance suggests something of a switch around in fortunes, at least for the next few days, with eastern coasts clearing whilst mist, fog and low cloud occasionally laps onto exposed western coasts. That still looks pretty much the only real fly into the ointment for the south at least, then later this week it's all change again as winds swing back into to NE, unfortunately for much of the east coast just in time for the weekend. It does feel rather churlish to complain about minor stuff like this though given the overall synoptics.

i think if you lived on the coast you would be the same yeah there good sypnotics but a continuous north east breeze and low clouds relentless its not very pleasant beleive me yes it prob will brighten up with a wind change and it will be in the west this time with misty low cloud so i for one will understand when they have a moan it is afterall the moaning thread @ shedhead i saw your post as i wrote mine seeing u have lived by coast
  4. Must have been. Can get them any time it gets hot and sunny as rising warm air meets the horizontal wind, causing rotation. Don't just get them in dusty areas of course, just they are most visible then. Had a few of them hit the garden. Blue skies, hot, gentle breeze and then the wind seems to turn gale force for a few seconds before returning to normal.

yeah thats what happened facinating things i just had to leg it coz sand was getting in my eyes n on my chips haha

  5. Can someone help me out here i think it was last friday i went to skeggy beach with the missus lovely day clear blue skies light winds i was sitting on a wall eating my chips when all of a sudden the wind picked up got very strong and started rotating very fast i had to run out the way and when i looked up i could see rubbish twisting in the sky above was quite freaky i thought it could of been a dust devil but thought it couldnt be could it ??

  6. Im not moaning about this weather after low cloud and cool thru this week i for one welcome this lovely weather it is a bonus tho being by a beach got up to 25.6c which is pretty good for here on east coast just got home after spending 4 hours at beach even with north east wind its been glorious today B)

  7. I would say there is a reasonable chance of an east/west split setting up at the end of next week with low cloud and cooler temperatures affecting the eastern half of the UK with the west still basking on very warm conditions with plenty of sunshine. But from today until next Wednesday it is looking better for those in the east with less cloud and some very warm temperatures early on next week as winds temporarily swing round to a westerly direction.

well we finally have some sun here clouds breaking up now quite quickly the wind direction makes all the difference feels like were finally joining the party :)
  8. Temperatures on the east coast are 19-22c which is quite good with broken clouds & sunny spells, it should get even warmer in the days ahead as things hot up inland.

cheers frosty yeah them temps are fine for me dont like it to hot.its just the north easterly wind just seen on bbc weather alex deakin showing the core of the heat moving south eastwards
  9. At least the next 5 days look dry and very warm for the bulk of England and Wales. Crucially we will lose the northeasterly so Yorkshire, East Midlands and East Anglia should be substantially warmer in the coming days although i suspect temperatures will continue to be supressed right on the coast, but that is not unusual.

what bout lincs will it be same old story cool n cloudy while everyone else has warm/hot days
  10. great 18z, looks hot from saturday onwards, this week has been ordinary so far here, i just hope next week don't downgrade as this time last week the models had it hot for this week and it hasn't been hot at all here,

yep same for here weve only had one good day that was tuesday the low cloud along the east coast is meaning while its summer everywhere else were stuck under cool and cloudy people talking about a breakdown it hasnt even been hot here yet to get a breakdown am hoping this time we get some summer weather

  11. Pretty fair 00z output overall this morning, at least for the south with high pressure or at least a strong ridge holding across the south with fine and warm weather in control, the gem 00z has an unsettled and cooler blip next week but then shows a recovery as high pressure builds in again, the navgem and gfs are looking good for the south but the north of the uk will probably be turning more unsettled at times but for the south there is little or nothing to moan about really, plenty for folk in scotland to moan about though as time goes on.

mornin Frosty just quick question on the last map where it shows numbers over sea are they the actual sea temps or air temps
  12. duff heatwave.... another example of a cooler then expected spell. ever since the cold spring things have struggled to get above average. early junes week of sun was nice enough but cool considering the time of year, now this heatwave that supposed to rival 06 simply isnt. whilst some areas are basking, others arent. i wouldnt mind so much if 21c in a ne breeze was predicted, but it wasnt, we were promised 27c... 6c is hell of a wrong prediction at such short range.

Agree mushy last week even paul husdon said on look north about best spell in 7 years didnt even mention on friday that yesterday( monday) would be cool with low cloud they was banging "The best spell since 2006" drum we had a nice weekend but thats it even when it was warm the nights didnt feel like summer still had a chill in the air
  13. But what about what we have now? Miles better than anything we had last year- some people have got real heat from this setup (29C for example in a number of places) and not just in the south. No doubt a high to the east is preferable in an ideal world but this will do just nicely, we may get a spell of north westerlies but we even had them briefly in July 2006. Storms are just an extra for me, the warm sunshine will do nicely, don't get why they're so sought after really with the amount of rain we get already!Just thought I should add actually, I do realise that you're further east Mushy so I can see why you're view of this setup might be slightly different to mine in the west but all the same your area has had some hot conditions and will do again before the week is out.

some places have not had any real heat ok weekend was fine but during every warm spell us in east have suffered with low cloud and north easterlies its the story off this summer i for one prefer high to the south east for a southerly flow
