    without an agenda I would like to know what part of the upper right peaks on the graphs are Arctic warming rather than global warming .. especially if to compensate for extreme Arctic warming we find areas of deep cooling ..and we know historically the planet's choices .. Why is it impossible for this to be the next ice age already begun.? Just be cause we haven't a folk memory of abandoning these islands and so much more to the snow and ice in the past ...

    I wont cite any papers I have not been into the future to retrieve them ... however I can see and feel evidence all around me that things (as in weather ...which makes climate after all) are changing and I am excited by change .. Until recently , the only future I was told I could depend on was runaway AGW . I like a wealth of possibilities and with Polar ice melt I can see new creative opportunities for Gaia (for those who object to Mother Nature).

    No .. I mean what I say ..For the last few summers Northern Hemisphere snow cover has crashed ...but I have not got separate stats for on land snow cover .. if BFTV or GW (or anyone ...even Jethro !) have such I would like them to be allowed to bring them to this conversation .. or to me on PM (which I now know means ...) What I was saying is that this years stats might be worth watching .. current NH snow cover is @ 10% above average for the end of March and in many places rather deep .and with all this blocking going on ... this thread could run and run ...

    took my mum to hospital in Belfast on Thursday and was astonished at the snow still lying ..even in the city centre there is plenty of evidence ...bbbut the surrounding countryside is still buried a week after the event .. Suddenly you can see how with a blocking weather pattern we could have a six month winter .. unheard of snow in October 2009 .. the deep freeze of 2010 and now March 2013 .. put all those into one winter .. along with a few near misses of extreme cold east and west of us this winter .. and we would have a whole new climate and not very good for our main industry .. farming ..and as for last summer ..brrr !

    ...and I suggested winter had hardly begun in mid-Feb ... now half of N Ireland is buried under snow but in recent summers there has been a collapse of total snow cover in the N. H. .. if this changes this year then a new era of weather may be upon us ... and it may not be a little ice-age but a Big one ...

    week old snow piled high even in Belfast city center and as for the countryside ....we are looking at 1947 .. and in parts much worse .. synoptics could still produce the goods if you love snow ....

    1.30 pm and i am enjoying the heaviest snow /hail shower of the winter ..on my 6th day in a row of falling snow ..new record !!

    Awoke this morning at 4.30 to find it snowing and a 2" snowdrift outside my door .. nearly called the BBC ..

    why can't we have a temperature inversion when it's snowing and blowing ??? I've had a total of 1 1/2 inches of lying snow all winter .. all of the cold and none of the fun

    All records are available on line from Armagh Obs Met data Not only was I friends with Robert Scott- the recorder in my youth .. I encouraged Dan McGinn ..an employee and friend , to go take up the post in the 90's ...

    I became friends with the weather recorder ( and groundsman ) at Armagh Observatory in 1973 and had the good fortune to have access after school to the written records .. often catching the 6.15 bus home as they were so fascinating Over the next few years .. unknown to anyone, I searched for cycles or trends and came to the conclusion that the mass state of mind may be more important ..eg in '47 it was the depths of rationing and post-war misery .. in '63 there was the heights of the cold war.fear .. and so on 40 years later I believe more than ever that we are the cause of the weather we experience .. so careful what you wish for or we'll all be buried in snow !!! Weather patterns are changing .. Arctic Ice melt has torn up the rule book for our region .. and if the jet Stream has retired to southern climes we are the most likely to wish our old climate back ..

    now the excitement really begins .. will there even be an ice sheet in 6 months ? .. This has been my first season as an on line observer so thanks for all the leads and lessons of the last 6 months .. it hasn't been dull !
