Good grief. Just about to bail out for the night, now we have the heaviest snow so far today. Anyone else in Essex getting this?
Yes. A very snowy scene here.
Over 5cm here now.
-
Heaviest snow here of the night now. Unreal
-
Really heavy snow still falling outside.
Easily 5cm now! Can't believe the intensity of it.
Yep I'm only 2 junctions away from those m25 pics.
-
Jeez, just looked out the window!
Back to heavy horizontal snow after a brief lighter period!
-
It's the opposite from a Convergence Zone...As the air rises, it condenses, bringing clouds and rain, where as with a Convergence Zone, it's colliding winds that force air upward and provides convection, deformation bands pull air upwards to provide convection...I think that's right anyway !
Thanks for the info ;-)

Been clutching so many straws tonight
Mc Donald's have barred me till weds
Lol
Ha ha ha :-)
Made me laugh :-)
-
Looks like I'm in for at least a good couple hours of more snow looking at radar!
I have a 3cm covering with 1cm on roads so far.
Snow coming down really heavy once again
-
another deformation band appearing over South essex
What's a deformation band?
-
Seems to be a start of a wrap around
Surrey - don't give up just yet ;-)

North west london whiteout
Yep just spoke to my sister in Radlett.
About 3cm there. She said heaviest snow she's seen in years!
Pretty much the same as here
-
I think those in the states would disagree with our terms of White-out..
Well to some of us UK weather freaks what is happening currently is a white out and it certainly was on my dog walk an hour ago. Horizontal blowing snow. Don't get much better than that for this part of the world!
Couldn't care less what the states think of my version of a white out
-
This is where I feel the highest totals may be.
Yes, I'm in that and already have 2/3cm - so definetley possible
-
Nobody has said anyone is lying in a post in here that I've seen, just some over enthusiastic posts about conditions which can be misleading to others.
In a true blizzard there would be prolonged snow storms lasting several hours with winds over 35mph and reduced vision of 400m or less, and in a whiteout there would be total loss of vision and orientation.
It's understandable that a lot of emotion is creeping into the thread, some are going to do better than others and disappointing as it is to miss out some people would really do themselves (and others) a favour by easing off with negativity.
Please lets try and keep the thread topical, cheerful and positive
I know no one said they were lying! But they were implying!
Anyway we then had a convo after that post and there was just a passionate disagreement about snow between the two of us which we laughed about and forgotten about. Until this post!!
Still snowing here... Great Sunday evening
-
Epping has turned into a white snow land once again!
Can't complain with the snowfalls I've seen this winter.
Radar looks to be clearing things out over London and heading towards essex and herts.
Ppn may make a return after though.
Still snowing heavy out there!
-
Sky signal gone.

Mate. I was responding to a poster who lives no more than 5 miles away from me in Nw London. I was out in my car at the time in that very area, and can assure you that whilst it was snowing, it was nowhere near the blizzard and whiteout that he was reporting.
Im all for a bit of enthusiasm for weather events, but lets be a bit sensible when reporting conditions eh ?
Fair dos.
Sorry I become a little passionate when there's heavy snow - lol
Still going strong here.
-
Stanstead have just closed a runway for snow clearance
-
Hell yes
Met didn't do there best here.
I'm still down for sleet. with only one period of light snow later on. But when it comes to these events met struggle because of the near continent.
I know, probably the heaviest in terms of falling snow so far this winter out there currently!
Wasn't expecting this.
Maybe another couple hours looking at radar :-)
-
All joking aside though. Folk might be travelling this evening, watching this website, and seeing posts about 'blizzards and whiteouts' where quite frankly its nothing of the sort is not being particularly helpful is it. Just saying.
Get yourself over to Epping!
Horizontal snow and its settled everywhere!
Unless your in 2 places at once of course!
I love how members can assume your weather conditions 40 miles away!!
Why would we lie?
-
But a white out...?
Yep - in Epping also white out conditions!
Could barely see walking the dog.
Heavy blowing driving snow.. amazing!
Still coming down thick and fast here
-
lol
I know that's what I was thinking.... !You enjoy it mate
-
Quick dog walk. Amazing out there!
Easy 2cm and still coming!
Everywhere white.
Near blizzard conditions.... Blowing snow.
-
Time to get out and enjoy, Going to take the dog for a walk now.
Snowing heavy/ settling on all surfaces = perfect Sunday evening!
-
Just getting better and better.
Powder like snow. Roads now white too
