Well heavy out there!
Settling by the minute
-
The snow is becoming more and more powder like!
Unreal to think 2 hours ago it was heavy rain.
Settling really well here. My drive is covered and now the roads are starting to appear white.
-
Starting to settle on roads and path.
Grass and cars are all white
-
Stratford East London - my friend says starting to settle there too.
I wonder if it will be snowing on the red carpet at the baftas tonight!
-
Real heavy snow about 8-9 On the SM scale.
Not setting on anything hope that its going to get colder but if not.
I'll take the rain back.
Why would anyone ever choose rain over snow.. Settling or not settling!
You live in the UK, the land of the Rain!! You'll have plenty of other times to get back your rain!
Really starting to lay on all surfaces now
-
As said times up for >West Sussex, & the SW of East sussex warming up now- this will filter up into Kent, the central belt ( for example places like Tonbridge- along that line out to Crawley - & turn it all back to rain & sleet.
Further North its hang on time, -- Sweet spot will as ever be Herts- up at the higher elevation.
S
You need to add west Essex to that too.
Finer, less wet snow absolutely falling down!
Love it...
-
Heavy snow, settling on cars, roofs, fences, grass!
Bring it on!!!
-
My worry is if and when dew points do fall.
There won't be any ppn.
-
Urgh... Leaving airport now
It's pi**ing down! Not looking forward driving back to Essex with all the spray!
Temp risen to 4.5c
-
Awful wet Morning.
Drove from Essex to Luton Airport to drop the other half off. Now having coffee in the terminal before another wet drive back.
Current temp 4c in car thermometer even at the airport with altitude.
Not as optimistic as yesterday. I can't see this turning to settling snow at all. It's actually feels mild.
Maybe sleet if I'm lucky before it moves away and gives northern England a white out!
-
Car thermometer reading 3c and its raining/drizzle!
Roads round here have fresh grit on them.
-
Fully expecting downgrades and a shift north east now after reading mod thread
That's what they all said about today as well - look what's happened!!
Lots of posts in the mod thread last night # rain from midlands south.... Cough cough
Stick with the pros on tomorrow's possible event!
-
NMM & BBC going for more Eastern areas, NAE as you say is say central-southern, why can't we just know!?
The NAE will change tomorrow, so will the BBC and MMM

From Liam dutton on twitter:
SNOW RISK on Sunday evening is now greatest for NE Wales, Midlands & parts of SE England. My thoughts here - on.fb.me/tKvPgU #uksnow

Might be time to worship the Canadian's:
SK
Nice. SK do you know how the GEM performed during the last cold spell at this range when it came to ppn amounts?
-
My met office app is replacing my snow symbols for tomorrow with sleet ones ...... Anyone know how I stop it doing that? I'm sure it's broken!!
They are pretty useless.
Last cold spell I was under a blizzard and yet it had mean in sleet the whole day!
-
looks like a correction sw on the UKMO i think. what would that mean for us?
It's all relative at the moment: the GFS 12z has pushed things further north slightly!
But yes the UKMO update doesn't even have the bulk of the ppn reaching Kent!
Just proves things can and probably will change up until T0
-
We shall see, I'm not getting my hopes up
Alex Deacon just said "snow could build up" focusing around Kent.
Fingers crossed :-)
-
@Essexweather on twitter!
"Rain turning to sleet around Midday. Full snow by 6pm"
"5cm+ expected."
"Expect upgrade to Amber warning later today"
Bring it on!!!
These guys were near perfect during the last cold spell.

Lighten up. It's human nature to compare things. Whenever I get in the showers at the gym I see the other blokes with their sad resentful faces. It's just natural.
Haha.... You joker!
Made me laugh!
Sorry if I offended anyone about the America snowstorm. I just think its stupid to compare snow totals for our small Atlantic driven island. You can't compare!
Anyway here's the thread for the America snow
-
-
Then ignore it! Other people are interested! I'm not comparing anything...... It's weather related.
You said it puts things into 'perspective' that's comparing!
Anyway, 12z NAE shows the rain changing to snow across our patch from 6pm tomorrow which ties in with BBC forecasts
-
As expected the BBC downgraded the event for tomorrow. They even said in their lunchtime forecast that it wont be very heavy anyway, and patchy rain or sleet, may turn to snow later in the day. In truth its obvious they have absolutly no idea where or when it will turn to snow - if it does at all. Im too long in the tooth to get swept along with all the hype, as with these marginal setups, the rain normally wins. I can only see rain til it starts turning sleety and possibly wet snow later in the day as the colder airmass cuts in. No doubt it will change every hour.
Ay?
I just watched the weather just now on news24
Phil Avery really ramping snow tomorrow afternoon
-
I can't even get excited over the possibility of a few cms of snow when parts of NE US have close to a meter of snow.
Then you better go move there. We are an island beside a huge ocean on the end of a Gulf Stream!!
A few cm's of snow is all your going to get!
Ps... I saw a the same anount of snow when I went to Helsinki last year - over a foot in 7 hours! People don't realise that European cities can and mostly do, do better than the NE of America!

I'm in Epping which isn't herts and I've got white out conditions!
So I don't know why Herts is being said, is the only place to get decent snow!
