I agree, April has been a fantastic month weather wise, lovely cool nights and mornings, plenty of sunshine and a bit of warmth for those who like it. Really really struggling to see how anybody could complain....its April.

Just like last year its a fantastic Spring, bit cooler than last year but can't complain, especially when sat in garden with a cold beer like today.

  2. One thing for sure is that this coming set up is different to what we would see produced earlier in winter, we don't have to look to see what is coming off the sea because we should get snow showers developing over land this time of year, very cold air and the warm sun could produce some towering clouds by mid afternoon.

On a NNW flow we would probably end up completely dry around here if it was January.

Agreed - why anybody is looking forward to cold at this time of year is beyond me!

I'm looking forward to it, I've seen some hefty amounts of Snow in April over years, still clearly remember late April 1981 when we had blizzards for 3 days with snowdrifts several feet deep on hills around here in South Yorks and North Derbyshire.

It's the end of March though....even with those 850s a lot of areas make double figures. More of a glancing blow:

Temperatures might reach 8 9 10 degrees but when heavy showers come along it can fall to just above freezing in minutes.

We had a similar set up to chart Jon shows above in May, 1975 I think year was, and we had frequent Snow showers on a WNW flow for days. Some of showers was Thundery too.

Considering the rest of February looks mild, I think it's safe to say from a cold perspective winter passed away last weekend?!

Probably yes for any severe cold but remember that Snow can fall right up till May.

With correct set up it's still possible to see a foot of snow falling even in April never mind March.

The easterly just did nothing for my location and basically the entire south west.

After narnia looking charts that promised country-wide snow events, you can understand how disheartening it was to see these get pushed back and then disappear entirely for our region.

It was laughable if not entirely unexpected to watch the cold go out with a whimper (the same thing seems to happen with heat nowadays too - no fireworks, just swept away with some drizzle).

We did get a snowfall a couple of weeks ago that gave us a few cm for a few hours, making it better than the 2019 winter at least but the recent ‘beasterly’ provided nothing but snow grains blowing around in a bitingly cold wind, with slate grey skies and not even a frost to speak of because it was too windy and dry. It was gross.

Cant wait for these warmer days/evenings even if it’s a bit damper - will be nice to see and smell the advance of plantlife which is looking a little haggard.

Living in Hampshire and more especially South West England I wouldn't expect to see much Snow on an Easterly, especially just on a showery flow like we had, an area of low pressure just to South might produce goods.

Majority of forecasts was for Snow to affect more Eastern areas.

The house is still feeling the cold but the snow is finally beginning to thaw @ 150m in Sheffield.
Overall lots of hope but disappointed as others have said. Expected much more with an amber warning but the lesson is that the north easterlies dont quite make it happen here - we need a true easterly. The thing is that the charts all looked like a true easterly. And also the fact that this occurred in early Feb - what happened ??‍♂️??
Overall ok but expected at least 15 cms but got a max of about 6cm.

Higher parts of Sheffield had about 10cm’s from the rain to snow event which ain’t bad.

Here’s a pic from just now - still good cover

We've had some mega snowfalls around here in past on a North Easterly, anything slightly East of North can produce goods this side of Pennines.

  8. I'm guessing some people think because charts are showing long drawn South and South Westerlies with all that orange showing on charts country will be bathed in warm sunshine and we can get our shorts and flip flops out.

Southern and Western areas will most likely be shrouded in mist, low cloud drizzly murk and it won't feel all that warm even if temps are in double figures.

Sheltered Northern and Eastern areas are more likely to benefit where in any sunshine temps could reach middle teens making it feel spring like.
