You tease......lol.....let's hope so.....a beast from the east.....now that would be a treat....this cold spell has been disappointing to say the least....great if you live in the Scottish Highlands in Aviemore or Carrbridge.....pathetic if you live elsewhere......

Yeah have to agree this cold spell has not been the best from a snow perspective, we’ve managed a couple of inches here but it’s been mostly marginal events overall ❄️

Absolutely bitter out there tonight though 🥶

Showing 0c here but 2c just down the road at Gogarbank. Really nothing but rain from about 5pm onwards yesterday! Thankful for yesterday mornings surprise snowfall as the main event was anything but 😂

Usual slush fest for us with the flow coming off the warmer sea 😏had the uppers been a degree or 2 lower we would’ve been ok.

Onto the next cold spell 🤣

The short answer is aye likely will be, more especially closer to the east coast, but if you're on low ground and relatively near the coast then even if its falling white, it'll likely land wet.

Inland with modest elevation should be more favourable as you'd expect.

thickness is fine, 850hpa temps are okay but not amazing, you'd really be wanting them about -8 when they're only going to be about -5/-6. Dew points are fine bit not amazing and wet bulb temps again reasonable but really can see the difference its making being closer to the coast and low ground in these vicinities would probably be lucky to catch anything that sticks. Air tempt (2m) really show the coastal issues with 5-7 hovering around the coastline. The 0C isotherm again highlights the same issue.

For more elevated slightly inland areas though, it could be a different story. As much as the snow depth charts are guff, it does highlight the potential between Saturday evening and Sunday morning going from this at 3pm saturday:

you can see the stream starting off much further north and migrating down the Eastern side of the country, pushing showers inland as it does so:

I really can't see the met not making some sort of mention of it in their text forecast today and possibly issuing an ice warning with the context explaining that some places may see a few centimetres followed by freezing conditions tucking back in behind which will obviously cause issues for the areas where it falls as sleet etc aswell with a freeze setting in soon after it passes.

    EDIT

Starting to show snow showers now in the MetO raw output:

    Thanks for the detailed information.

So looking like a sleet fest until the early hours of Sunday when conditions look more favourable assuming there is still precipitation around 🥶

Just further to @Kirkcaldy Weather 's class post about Saturday, there's various different models now picking up on the activity through the central belt on Saturday. The timing doesn't seem to be agreed upon certainly, but they are in general agreement of shower activity pushing through the central belt at least for a time. Again, nothing drastic, but enough to hopefully wet the appetite.

I would expect the MetO to at least give it a mention in their text forecast by tomorrow afternoon, nothing to warrant any warnings unless it gets caputred by an ice warning with a mention of a couple of centimeters possible in some places.

Is this likely to be more marginal on low ground with sleet rather than snow? ❄️
