  1. I would've thought the last thing that people in Ipswich want is to be trounced by yellow and green. Again.
  2. Agree, I find them hard to believe. Today's PPN has hit a cold brick wall at the A1, so unless this is showing PPN from the East it's hard to accept the EA accumulations shown.
  3. Stocked up this morning: 3 bottles of Red and a bottle of blanc for Mrs Yarmy. Not that I think we'll get that much here, but it's nice to have an excuse.
  4. The smear is intensifying, presumably as it works its merry way into the colder air. Is this a possible precursor for tomorrow's battleground fun and games?
  5. Hmmm, while Suffolk is being hounded by the blob from the East, we have been ignoring the approach of the smear from the West. Will it get here or disintegrate en route?
  6. Purple Rain, purple rain, ... bordering Norfolk and extending into Lincs. Seems a bit unlikely given that it's still sub-zero here and down to -10 or so at night. I don't trust any of these precip charts.
  7. Some run against run 5 day stats: http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/gmb/STATS/html4x/acz5.html In summary, ECM 12z > ECM 00z > GFS 12z > GFS 00z > GFS 06z > GFS 18z which probably confirms some suspicions although the differences are not that great. It's a shame they don't run out to 7 or 8 days as that seems to be where GFS falls off a cliff at the moment.
  8. Looking at those photos, your temperature is currently -5.2C. Possibly -5.1C.
  9. Another beautiful clear morning here with thick hoar frost decorating the trees. -9C (car thermometer caveats applying as usual) on the nursery run so slightly colder than yesterday. Wonder if anywhere beat yesterday's -13.1C at Marham?
  10. Just to repeat what I said earlier, we had a brief (minutes) shower of wispy snow this afternoon and yet it started to accumulate quickly on the surfaces because they are bone dry and freezing cold. Now 24 hours of light snow would leave God knows how much, then add to that a subsequent bitter Easterly over a relatively warm North Sea and I think we should be careful what we wish for.
  11. Just checked the Tesco burgers in my freezer. Aaaaaaand they're off! (Apologies)
  12. Snizzling again here, but because the surfaces are so cold and bone dry it is accumulating quite quickly.
  13. Probably. To be honest, what we've had the last couple of days would do me for the whole winter. I'm not greedy, I just like to have a proper seasonal spell each year in each season.
  14. Enveloped by freezing fog now after an absolutely glorious morning: trees laden with hoar frost bathed in milky winter sunshine standing stark against deep azure skies...(getting a bit carried away here). To sum up, very nice.
  15. Those precip charts (from GFS?) always make me laugh: all those straight lines and rights angles...
  16. Without wishing to anti-ramp, are we not always advised to bin the GFS 06z?
  17. -10C on Mrs Yarmy's car thermometer this morning @ 7.45am. I had to open the boot and climb over seats to turn the engine on as all the doors were frozen solid. A mere -8C on my car's thermometer, but that's because I park facing the front door and get the famous House Heat Island effect. (Or maybe car thermometers just aren't very accurate)
  18. Ian F's (frequent) tweets are interesting: are they beginning to view the NAE output with less scepticism?
  19. 10cm snow cover in the North Sea is indeed exceptional.
  20. NAE is higher res, yes? Remember how when the UKMO first modelled the undercutting scenario (Sunday night?) it was also treated with (healthy) scepticism.
  21. And that would probably be for the best if we're playing the long game. We want that block to be a rock.
  22. Just going to miss out on this batch by the looks of things: right on the edge of the Western extent. Will just have to make do with the 4 inches I have (careful now) for the time being.
