  1. Another fog warning for tonight, inc. London this time. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&regionName=se&fcTime=1477436400
  2. Did you get any fog? It's quite foggy in the river valleys but the fog isn't widespread. Another chance for fog tonight though it seems. It looks like late October out there...but it doesn't feel like late October if that make any sense.
  3. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&regionName=se&fcTime=1477350000 Fog warning for large parts of the S/E tomorrow morning. Put that in your 'October fog' diary!!
  4. Sounds good! I got an allotment a few weeks ago and am looking forward to growing stuff next year, especially pumpkins! As I live in a flat, I've previously grown pumpkins in my Dad's back garden, in large flower pot and even on a scrub of land by an A-road! So it's going to be nice to have full control over a patch of land. My record is 36k in 2013 and I put that down the the heatwave at the right time of year for pumpkins as they love the hot sun. That was from an Atlantic giant seed bought from Homebase but next year I'm going to splash out on a giant seed which cost about £4 each!! Tomorrow I'm going to dig in some composted cow manure into my pumpkin bed, then sow some green manure over the top. This is what growers of large pumpkins do in the October before planting apparently.
  5. The rain arrived about 5 minutes after I typed that. I know it sounds silly, but I'm not used to the rain arriving from the east!!! Mist again this morning. I'm sure there is more mist and fog around in October mornings than last year.
  6. Well what an amazing few days to take off. I have been looking at glittery seas and rivers for days, beautiful. In my previous holiday in June, I had to drive home in my PJs because torrential rain has soak though all my jacket and changes of clothes! What a difference. One of my friends has been moving sledges from stock to shop yesterday (then then bought one herself). I'm sure it's too early in the season for that sort of thing!!! I hope it's a harbinger of something colder. Shiny i360 with the sun on the sea in its reflection. p.s Surrey, I got a job and two hours in I realised I'd made a terrible mistake...and handed my notice in at lunchtime. Best to go for it and realise it's not for you than sit and wonder what if.
  7. Day off for anniversary today, had a lie-in so no idea what it was like early morning - but we went for a shopping trip to Brighton this afternoon and I have to say the weather was utterly glorious. Everyone was in t-shirts and there wasn't even a breeze, it was more like an early June day. One of the most summery days of the year...in October! That said, I'd welcome cold now.
  8. Put the winter duvet on that night as it felt cold, goes that count? It's dropped to 20.c inside the flat for the first time in months so heating on in just a few days I feel.
  9. Well we've had a bit of everything today - fog early this morning (I bounced out of bed - "Fog!! Fog!!!"), rain cleared the fog in seconds, rained very heavy, cloudy, then glimpses sun, then warm sun and blues skies, the dark cloud, then thunderstorm! Don't you love autumn! Was recently reminded of this October day:http://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/photosales/photogalleries/snow2008/22/ I went to ASDA and when I came out I was gobsmacked - everything was coated. Not as gobsmacked as my sister and her boyfriend who were visiting and camping in the garden as we have no spare bedroom!!!
  10. Lovely lunchtime here - lunch on the allotment in the sun! Chilly and cloudy by the time we get back into town though half an hour later - very changeable day. Just got home and it's 21.c in the flat - don't think I've seen it below 23.c for months! Facebook is annoying at the moment - I'm use to people linking to those ridiculous stories in the Daily Express - but people keep sharing an obscure article from Exacta Weather about how we'll be under ten foot of blizzards in six weeks. @Surrey - wishing you all the best work-wise!
  11. I'm sure when I looked at the forecast yesterday - there was no mention of rain...in fact I spread out stuff to be dried on the ground at the allotment ready for burning. But it's been raining here for hours!
  12. After quiet spell, lightning is back in Wycombe. The A40 between Wycombe and Beaconsfield is in a bad way with flooding and a small number of homes have lost power. We're only on the edge of the amber warning - but it is deffo needed. That front stretching the length of the country is stunning.
  13. Yes, it's a couple of miles south-west of Wycombe and a miles or so west of me. Judging by Facebook - all of Flackwell is awake!! I just popped outside - rain still falling and the A40 has a LOT of surface water, cars look like they have just come down a log flume.
  14. Epic storm with tonnes of rain for over an hour now, couple of overhead strikes =wow!! Proper flat-shakers! Can't sleep now, though!! Friends in nearby Flackwell Heath say their parents have lost power.
  15. Thanks.....but they changed it! I still have the origional warning open on another page and it says weds - and no other warnings! Sort it out Meto!!
  16. Warning for some in the S/E for this arvo: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings&regionName=se&fcTime=1473807600 No surprised, feel much more humid than yesterday, working outside is horrid
  17. Well, that was a rather wet morning. Went to town on a whim, completely forgetting it was going to rain for a few hours and came back like a drowned rat. While walking round town, we had a general chit chat about whether retail gives us any clues has to what the upcoming season will be like. Obviously retailers use long term weather forecasting to plan what they are going to buy in. The reason we had this discussion was this - this time last year, I took my old coat to the charity with the intention of having a big shop for autumn and winter clothes the following weekend. Except I looked everywhere for a big, snug winter coast and couldn't find one. I couldn't find fake 'Ugg' style furry boots either. I just put it down to changing fashions or being to early in the season. Turns out we didn't have a winter at all - just an autumn that lasted 7 months. I wondered if there was a correlation. Or not!!!
  18. Hello fellow Chilterneer! Big fat, convective raindrops - nice but I'd like more and something with a bit of electricity. And so muggy walking is like swimming in a Cuppa Soup. Feels warmer that the 25.5.c the temp is showing. This heat lover has not enjoyed the last few days, it's made me feel quite ill and it makes physical work so difficult.I'm craving autumn now.
  19. Weather forced us off out hilltop allotment as the wind and rain made doing gardening annoying! So we went to various garden centres and every one had pots blown over - especially fruit trees and other leafy things.. Not all bad though, ended up having a nice cuppa and listening to Lloyd Cole singing live (at Rewind Fest over the river!) . Thankfully tomorrow is looking better. Amazing how fast the evening goes now - we've put in two hours at the allotment each evening this last week - at 6.20pm it's sunny and hot, by 8.20 - darkness stops work! I love autumn but the shortening days are a shock to the system.
  20. A week ago I said that I was still filling up the bird feeder as it was crazy busy...a week later and it's deserted! Apart from a woodpecker (who usuallyonly comes to the fat block feeder I put out in Jan/Feb) and the collard doves chasing off their many babies, it's very quiet now. Another observation I have noticed is acorns. In recent years, oak trees in our park have hardly produced any acorns because of the gall wasps taking them over - this year however, huge number of acorns.
